18.01.2022 After making the little girl, God said: Youll need something to lean on. Something with substance that will teach you the value of hard work, perseverance, an...d to never give up. A thing that wont cast judgment when you mess up in life. Because you will often, its just part of growing up and becoming a decent human." "Youll need something whose impressive physical presence must be respected at all times. A being who could break your bones in a whisper but will never break your heart. A creature who will be there for you when you cry for hours after someone you love lets you down. An unspeaking breathing being that will teach you to check all the noise in your head and completely listen to what he is saying." Sometimes in life you need to let go and just hang on. I call this trust. The terrifying ability to follow something blindly out of the conviction of only your heart. It will keep you centered and restore your faith when life happens. When you realize that you are forgettable to the world you wont be to this creature." "Something that will keep you truly humbled yet teach you how to fly!" You need to understand the painful reality of death. Sometimes its ok to let go. That kindness will always be rewarded before the use of force. And that courage means trusting him to get you safely to the other side." Something to get you out of bed in the trying times. When you feel like you have nothing he will remind you that you are still wanted. Something to give you perspective about whats really important in life." Youll need a best friend. Do not take this relationship lightly. It just might save your life someday when you see no out. Treasure it always Im trusting it to you to take care of for a reason." A creature who will restore your faith about all of the goodness in the world even when you are so broken down that you cast Me aside." In turn with time and healing he will bring you back to Me. Know that your struggle wont be made alone, and dont forget to enjoy the ride." "So I will make a horse. Credit to Lacey Messick

16.01.2022 SCRAPING HOT HORSES DOESNT COOL THEM DOWN - PROOF! Several years ago I came to the realisation that scraping water off hot horses was not helping to cool them ...down. This was based on published papers, practical experience and application of the laws of physics. Ive put out several posts on my Facebook page about this over the past year. This Summer at the Ready Steady Tokyo equestrian test event thermographer Helen Reynolds of Equionics https://www.equionics.com/ was working with me on another project but we took the opportunity to look at the effects of scraping hot horses whilst they were being cooled. As you can see from the example videos: (1) Scraping does not speed up cooling. In fact it has no effect on the horses surface temperature (2) Cold water left on the horse does not heat up and insulate the horse or make it hotter! For horses that are warm and in cool to warm climates, if you want to scrape then it doesnt matter. It will just take longer for your horse to cool down. When is it important NOT TO SCRAPE? When you have a VERY HOT HORSE that needs rapid cooling e.g. after cross-country, polo, racing, driving, etc ESPECIALLY in HOT WEATHER! The speed of cooling is related to three things: 1) The temperature of the water 2) The amount of surface of your horse that you cover with water 3) The amount of water you put on The fastest rate of cooling will be with lots of cold water all over the body. So a horse cooled all over for 10 minutes with 100 litres of water at 5C will cool much faster than one cooled just over the chest and neck with 50 litres of water at 15C! Scraping just wastes time that would be better used applying more water! Once again, DO NOT SCRAPE if you have to COOL a VERY HOT HORSE, especially in WARM/HOT WEATHER! *** Postscript *** To those still fighting the urge to scrape, look around 49s in the video. When the cold water is SCRAPED OFF the horses surface actually HEATS UP!

15.01.2022 To keep a relaxed, flexible feel of the reins ... Hold the reins as if you had a hamster in each hand. Avoid squeezing so hard that you would hurt the little c...reatures, but maintain enough soft tension to keep them from wriggling away. 12.01.2022 Brushing and Tacking Up Sometimes when were getting our horses to ride, its easy to get task oriented and forget about the horse. But these are important mome...nts to take note of and participate in fully How does the horse feel about how you brush? Do they flinch? Do they move around? Do they push? Experiment with different brushes, techniques and ways of moving. See if you can get the horse to soften mentally and physically. When you saddle and bridle, how does the horse feel? Do you throw the saddle on carelessly, causing their back to dip, or with care? Do their eyes widen or soften? When you bridle, do you grab, pull, and push, or do you wait, soften your fingers and lift the bit into their mouth without hitting their teeth? Every little piece matters. It all adds up to building trust or taking it away. If you acknowledge how they feel about each piece and work to make it better for them, and stay present in your daily tasks, you may find a world of change in your horses attitude.

11.01.2022 Hey Guys! Some new rules for you at Gisborne Equestrian Centre. ********************************************** Due to Covoid 19 and safety of my own health and yours- the following will come into affect today 8th of April. ... ******************************************* *We all touch the same gate to come in and leave the property so wash your hands as soon as you get out of your car, BYO your own towel, scrub tap handle as well while you are washing your hands. *I will be locking the gate every day at 5pm Sharp for my own safety, plus I dont want to be out in the cold night air any later then that as Im already sick and an Asthmatic. So please respect my wishes and leave at my stated time. I shouldnt have to be waiting in the cold to lock the gate behind you... its freezing and I dont feel like catching Pneumonia! (I think this is reasonable because you have all tended to your horses earlier then 5pm and I know it can be done.) *Gate will be re-opened of a morning at 09:30am unless organised earlier for farrier or vet. * One Visit a day to see your horse, Groom, work your horse etc. If you dont need to do anything with your horse or check an injury... please stay at home. My property isnt a Country club. its here to look after your horses, and I pride myself on doing that well, thats why you pay for full care... however I need to look after myself. I do Understand these are tough Rules. However Im looking after myself and all of you, to stop any contagion that we may come into contact with. ***********************************************

07.01.2022 The Best Horses in Heaven, They Have No Tail by Miska Paget... The best horses in Heaven they have no tail. This is a rule they all know without fail. For when a new horse arrives with a short cut bob, they all know that this horse did a very good job. His owner could not bear to part with her friend so she saved his tail, wrapped in ribbons and in braids, to hold with his memory in a very loving way. To enter Heaven without a tail is an honor, a message, that without fail announces to everyone, far and wide that this horse was more than a wonderful ride. But this horse was loved and cherished by one and when his time serving on this Earth was done he left behind a broken heart and a soul from which he never will part. Made by: The Puppy Artist

07.01.2022 Attention, this is not a game nor funny! If you ever see your cat or dog doing this, you need to take him urgently to the vet. Some owners may find this behavio...r funny but it has a medical reason. Its known as Head Pressing, cats and dogs also horses do this when they are suffering from a terrible headache. They are suffering so much that they need to press their head against the wall. Due to a damage to the nervous system, animals act like this. The causes can be from a toxic poisoning, a disease of the forebrain, a tumor in the head, an injury after an accident, etc. Care to share.

06.01.2022 If youre hot- they are too! Its going to be a stinker 42 today. What I do for my horses ( the black guys) ... I do for my Clients This means being mindful of their hydration and heat stress. Everyone gets extra hay and its placed in the shade, 3 water checks today. They will get a hose down too like I do with my two, everyone gets one too. Thats why I treat your horses like my own!

02.01.2022 I was thinking to myself as I was feeding my horses this morning, if I could talk to every horse owner in the world, for just one minute, what would I tell the...m? What is the one piece of information that would make the biggest positive difference to their horses life? And this is what it would be NEVER ride your horse on an empty stomach. Or said another way, always feed your horse hay or let him graze pasture right before you ride. Because for us, as humans, to exercise on a full stomach is really uncomfortable right?! We feel sluggish. We get a stitch. And it is just downright uncomfortable. So why on earth would I say to make sure your horse has a full stomach before you ride? Well, the thing is, horses and humans are completely different in the way we eat and in the way our stomach works. We (humans) are meal feeders. We eat food in distinct meals. While we eat, our stomach switches on acid production. Then when we stop eating, acid production is switched off. So we can go for a really long time (like overnight) without eating and its not an issue. And yes, its more comfortable, for us, to exercise on an empty stomach. Horses on the other hand are grazers, or trickle feeders. They are designed to eat almost constantly over a 24-hour period. And will take only very short (less than 2 to 3 hour) breaks between feeding if left to feed naturally. Because of this, their stomach NEVER switches off acid production. And this is why you must not ride on an empty stomach. For a guide on how much to feed before you ride, heres a table of suggested amounts of hay, depending on your horses situation.
