25.01.2022 Mindful Monday: Why Less is More! I love this quote from Joseph Pilates as it really explains why we dont do 100 repetitions and 1000 sets of every exercise.

24.01.2022 A great little reminder of what you need to pay attention to when planking! We do many variations of planking in the studio - some are easy and some challenge your body in new ways, especially when we do them on the Reformer.

23.01.2022 March Matness Day 3: Hip Rolls Hip rolls are a wonderful way to get your spine moving and to engage your glutes and hamstrings. Be sure to keep your legs parallel and start by peeling your spine off the mat from your tailbone to the bottom of your shoulder blades. You are aiming for a lovely straight line from your shoulders through your hips to your knees when you are at the top of the hip roll. If your hamstrings start cramping, reduce the range and bring your feet clos...er to your bottom. Remember all the exercises I am posting this month are for healthy bodies. Come back tomorrow for a little bit of thoracic extension. Happy Sunday!

22.01.2022 Its Flexband Friday so why not join me for a Chat on the Cadillac and find out why the flexband is one of my favourite props!

19.01.2022 I am so excited to finally get my Post Rehabilitation Specialist designation from Merrithew today. This means that I have successfully completed more than 8 workshops that have a post-rehab focus. These include working with clients with Osteoporosis, Scoliosis and those with Shoulder and Knee issues. If you are worried about exercising after an injury or if you have specific concerns, contact Genevieve at [email protected]

19.01.2022 Mindful Monday It is important to remember that every time you are in the studio doing your Pilates workout, you do it to the best of your ability. Pilates is so worth doing, so do it well!

18.01.2022 Mindful Monday and this weeks little bit of inspiration for the studio! What dream are you pursuing?

17.01.2022 I have to share these beautiful photos that my friend, client, and Chatswood West Shop neighbour, Nina Beilby, took. Nina has the magic touch with fur babies and captured our Lulu so beautifully. If you are looking to have forever memories of your furry friend(s), contact Nina!!!

16.01.2022 If you are planning on going for a walk today, why not work on your core at the same time. Take a look at this short video by Eric Franklin from The Franklin Method. There are some simple tips on how you can work your core with a little bit of mindfulness and some subtle changes to your walking pattern. Let me know if you feel a difference by leaving a comment below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_Lspi3Ev5Q&feature=youtu.be

15.01.2022 Gong Xi Fa Cai! To all my Chinese friends and clients, wishing you health, wealth and much happiness in this Year of the Dog.

11.01.2022 If you are in the studio this week, you may just get to have a cuddle with Lulu! To all my clients who have had to listen to me going on about the puppy - she is here and she is gorgeous!!!

11.01.2022 March MATness - the Rollup Todays video is from a challenge that I am following on Instagram (thebodypilatessydney). The Rollup is a classical Pilates exercise that requires a lot of core strength, stabilization through the pelvis and spinal articulation. I never had time to record the video in the studio, but managed with the help of my cat, Tio, to do a roll-up after returning from dinner. Just goes to show that Pilates can be done anywhere and you can even keep her high heels on! Have a wonderful Sunday!

11.01.2022 Mindful Monday! The quote on the board for last week was a Chinese proverb from Confuscius. I think it rings true in how we learn Pilates in the studio. I will often describe an exercise to a client, but it is only after they have seen me demonstrate it, and have tried it in their own bodies, that they truly understand the movement and can commit it to muscle memory.

10.01.2022 Mindful Monday "Be yourself, everyone else is taken!" Oscar Wilde How do you stay true to yourself?... In Pilates practice this means listening to your body and moving within your own boundaries. Do not compare yourself to the person lying next to you on the mat or the Reformer- they come from a different place and have followed a different road to get to where they are today.

09.01.2022 I cant believe how time has flown. This course, ZenGa for Mat, was my first exposure to fascial movement work and I loved it. If you are one of my clients, you will know how much I love working to get the whole body moving and I am sure you get a bit tired of me talking about hydrating the fascia and getting the body unstuck.

09.01.2022 Mindful Monday! How does your body handle the truth? What is your favourite Pilates exercise? And your least favourite? Id love to know. My least favourite exercise is Star on the Reformer. Its an advanced exercise that requires a lot of scapular stability, core control and balance - think of a sideways plank on a moving platform!... And my favourite exercise - Short Spine. A Reformer and Cadillac exercise that requires a strong core, but one that really opens up your back and gives you the most delicious stretch.

09.01.2022 March Matness. Join me everyday in March for a little workout on the mat. Pilates Matwork is a wonderful way to build core strength and increase flexibility. Today I start with my favourite warm-up: four point kneeling with some scapula protraction and retraction, spinal flexion and extension, and a little bit of rotation to finish things off.... Have a wonderful day and see you on the mat again tomorrow when we do a little bit of ab preparation!

08.01.2022 March Matness Day 4: Spinal extension with Breaststroke Prep Todays series of 3 exercises are all wonderful for improving your posture by strengthening the back extensor muscles. Do 10 repetitions of each and let me know how you go. Remember all exercises that I am posting this month are for healthy bodies.... See you on the mat tomorrow for a little bit of rotation.

08.01.2022 March Matness Day 2: Ab Prep Todays video is all about Ab Prep, a simple and yet effective exercise to build core strength. It is also called a Chest Lift or Abdominal Curl. Many exercises in the Pilates repertoire require you to first master Ab Prep. Let me know if you have any questions by leaving a comment below. Please remember that all the exercises I am posting are for healthy bodies! If you have an injury or condition, please ask me how to modify the exercise so i...t is safe. Come back tomorrow for some Hip Rolls when we start waking up the hamstrings and glutes!

07.01.2022 Mindful Monday How much attention do you pay to your eyes in your Pilates practice? Remember that where the eyes go, the head follows and this affects the alignment of your spine and your whole posture. So, look to the horizon and find those rainbows!

07.01.2022 Mindful Monday - are you as supple as a cat? If you are looking to increase your flexibility and range of movement, Pilates is definitely the way to go.

04.01.2022 Something to put a smile on your face at the end of a long week! If you want a little bit of cardio in your Pilates session, why not try some jumping on the CardioTramp attached to the end of the Reformer - its guaranteed to get your heart rate up!

03.01.2022 Nina Beilby is the amazing photographer with a studio just around the corner from The Body Pilates. If you are looking to update your profile photos for any social media platform or business marketing, you really should take Nina up on this offer! Nina took my photos and I loved the way they turned out
