25.01.2022 A person is a person no matter how small -Dr Seuss @healthiest_baby Today, we realize that babies are listening and engaging their senses while in the womb. And that’s an important discovery because it means babies-under-construction are already learning. Let’s look at how and what babies understand in the womb, what they remember after birth, and how this helps them in their new world. ... Your baby will hear rumbly deep womb nosies and your voice. There’s some suggestion that babies move in rhythm to your words. Babies actually remember words and stories heard while in the womb. Research has shown that babies are getting their first lesson in languages while still in the womb. When a baby is only hours old, he can recognize speech-sounds from his mom’s native language. It has been shown that a baby actually reaches out to his mother as she rubs her tummy. . ? P.S. This is a small excerpt from my upcoming online course - Play it Smart! :) See more

21.01.2022 Have you tried tandem feeding? Here's what happens when one child is sick.. Say the toddler has a cold but baby doesn’t, while both would be getting immune support from your breastmilk, your toddler will get more immune factors specifically targeted for their illness in their breastmilk as well (Lawerence & Pane, 2007). For more breastfeeding questions you can join me here www.theboobala.com.au... #theboobala #boobalicious

19.01.2022 come to mind! @growupbrite A couple weeks ago, I did a poll to ask, where do you hide from Your kids? The #1 answer was the bathroom! So if you are hiding in the bathroom right now scrolling insta, while eating your secret candy stash, we are with you and love you for

18.01.2022 Do I eat/drink every three hours? Or do I eat when I’m hungry? It’s more important to be responsive to your baby’s feeding cues and offer the breast frequently. This means that sometimes your baby will have long breastfeeds, other times they will have short breastfeeds. Just like you have meals, snacks and drinks throughout the day. There's an added bonus, breastfeeding frequently will also help maintain your supply. Tash (IBCLC) www.theboobala.com.au

17.01.2022 Let's face it, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. So what’s worth paying attention to and what isn’t? Let’s start with what the World Health Organisation has to say about breastfeeding. These guys are the leaders of health standards and information for all countries and demographics globally. (That is, they know their stuff and their directives drive health policy across many countries). According to the World Health Organisation: "Breastfeeding is the normal way of providing you...ng infants with the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development. Virtually all mothers can breastfeed, provided they have accurate information, and the support of their family, the health care system and society at large...Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended up to 6 months of age, with continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods up to two years of age or beyond.’’ Want to know more, you can find my book "Boobalicious: From Hot Mess to Breastfeeding Success!" here www.theboobala.com.au #natashalunn #theboobala #hotmesstobreastfeedingsuccess

15.01.2022 Dial up the mindfulness. @growupbrite We need to give ourselves a giant pat on the back for being the best we can be during these times. Is it easy? No Are we stretched like never before? Yes Can cheer each other on so we know we are not alone? Hell YES

15.01.2022 @theleakyboob Respect your body. Respect means caring for it, appreciating it, seeing it, recognizing the work it does, feeding it. You may not be happy with your body, you can have disappointments, you can struggle to love it. But to respect it you have to ask where those thoughts come from and are those values more important than the value your body brings? We're all in different places in our journey and I won't shame anyone struggling to love or respect their bodie...s. I hope though that we can each work on living the understanding that we are worthy just the way we are. I am enough. You are enough. Artist Credit: Artist unknown! 15.01.2022 Did your baby go to the NICU? @addie.belle I post this image & story every year for #nicuawarenessmonth ... One day we got a call from the NICU that we needed to come in right away, Addie wasn't doing well and we needed to pack a an overnight bag. When we got to the NICU, there was a crowd in her corner and the cover was off of her isolette. As we approached, we saw their long faces. They gave us a look that almost had an air of sorry-for-your-loss. You could see the worry and concern on their faces. This didn't help. This didn't reassure us in any way. Whenever something has gone wrong up to this point, we've been somewhat reassured because they didn't flinch. They didn't seem concerned. This was different.Addie looked terrible. Her usually pink skin was a greyish-blue. She already had the vent tube down her throat. Her belly was huge and so stretched out that you could see every vein. She wasn't moving. Barely opened her eyes, and only once. She had an IV in her foot and her arm. It tugged at every string in our hearts. And the doctors and nurses told us that this was actually better than she'd looked an hour before. I'm glad we didn't see her at her worst. I could barely stand seeing her like this. It felt like all of the progress she'd made in the days prior came crumbling down, in an instant. She got NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis) a life threatening infection that causes intestinal tissue to die and the number one reason why preemies die in the NICU. She survived...only 50% do.

14.01.2022 There has been a lot of hoo-haa in the media around the use of inclusive language when it comes to trans folx feeding human milk to babies. I say hoo-haa not to be dismissive but because there has been a lot of inflammatory misreporting by the media resulting in a click-bait frenzy. I am sorry that the trans community has had their basic human right of inclusive language debated the way it has been lately. ... But I want those folx to know you to know I see you, I love you, I respect you and I am here for you. Tash

12.01.2022 It all takes time but it’s a worthwhile investment! Pumping experience and truths from The Leaky Boob How much time each day do YOU spend breastfeeding? . Breastfeeding is my life and I'm not kidding. I did the math.... . How many minutes/hours of your day do you spend pumping and/or breastfeeding directly separately and all together? . Do the math. Or don't. It's up to you. . I'm not sure how much I spend breastfeeding because it depends on cluster feeding and my baby's mood but I'm estimating about 8 feeds per 24 hours period at 45 minutes a feed (I have a dawdler at the breast, she likes to take her time). This does include night time feeds. . Pumping for me is around 90-100 minutes a day (not including set up or washing parts) at 5-6 sessions at 15-20 minutes each. . For me: Breastfeeding = up to 6 hours. Pumping = up to 100 minutes. Total = 460 minutes/day or just over 7.5 hours per 24 hour period. . *This is normal old school math, not the new-fangled-math. . That's like a full time job! . No wonder it sometimes feels like all I do. . I will do ANYTHING to make pumping take less time. Hands on pumping, like I'm doing here in this pic, goes a long way in cutting my pumping sessions time down. With a hands-free pumping bra (the pretty one I'm testing out here {and I really like} is the @simplewisheshandsfree Sling Bra which isn't even out yet but you can join their Kickstarter and get it in sizes 32B to 40H soon. . Since I spend SO MUCH TIME breastfeeding, it's nice to have a comfortable, functional, affordable, and pretty bra to make it a little bit more fun. I just saw that Simple Wishes is having a giveaway going right now (TLB does not have a Simple Wishes giveaway going, sorry, go to their account to enter). #beautifulbfing #bfing #breastfeeding #pumpingisbreastfeedingtoo #pumping #momlife #bra #baby #postpartum #parenting #fulltimejob #feedallthebabies #milkdonor See more

09.01.2022 You finally have an excuse to enjoy a coffee and breastfeed. That said.. caffeine consumption during breastfeeding is a double edged sword. I would say that it is totally ok for a breastfeeding Mumma to consume up to four cups of tea or coffee while breastfeeding. Let’s face it, when you are up breast-feeding during the night, sometimes we need all four! On one hand caffeine can help us get through the day, but on the other, with too much caffeine, we are left even more t...ired as we deal with a buzzed up, jittery baby who JUST. WON’T SLEEP! Caffeine is found in a number of foods and beverages such as brewed and instant coffee, tea, energy drinks and food containing guarana, coca cola, and both milk and dark chocolate. Tea has the least amount of caffeine (about 10-50mg/250mL), whereas brewed coffee and energy drinks have the highest (60-120mg/250mL). (Food Standards Australia New Zealand.) So choose your treat wisely and please go ahead, breathe in the scent, devour the taste and ENJOY! I bet you've earned it. 09.01.2022 Yes!! @heysleepybaby No shame zone! If you’re new to my page, Hi! I’m Rachael and I sleep trained my first baby. I didn’t know there was another option. My friends said it worked like a charm and I was exhausted and desperate. Here’s what I wish I knew then:... 1. If you aren’t feeling like yourself, or are too tired to function, therapy is never not a good idea. 2. Young babies are meant to wake throughout the night to feed. This is important for both for baby and for protecting your supply. Your doctor might tell you that you can stop the night feeds, but your doctor is not an expert in Lactation. 3. Self care means being a better mom. I’m not talking about an occasional bubble bath, I’m talking about proper nutrition, hydrating, getting plenty of fresh air and sunshine, asking for help when you need it, and allowing yourself to rest and take breaks. Be conscious of the social media you consume and how it makes you feel. 4. If your baby is coming between you and your partner, couples counseling is a much more effective way of dealing with that then sleep training. If there are issues with miscommunication, intimacy, or resentment in your relationship, sleep training doesn’t make those go away like magic. 5. If you are majorly sleep deprived, or experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety, insomnia, or psychosis, sleep training will not address these. While lack of sleep can absolutely coincide with mental illnesses and exacerbate them, getting more sleep will not make them disappear. Proper care and sometimes medication might be needed. 6. Your friends and people on social media should not influence how you view your baby’s sleep. Sleep training worked for your friend? Cool! That influencer’s baby started sleeping through the night at five months? Good for her. This is not a gold standard and there is no award for a baby that sleeps through the night by a certain age. Every baby is different, every family is different, and every baby will get there eventually. Learning about normal infant sleep is one of the best things you can do for your sanity. Once you know you’re not alone, your whole perspective can shift!

03.01.2022 Breastfeeding is one of the most powerful ways to look after your mental health. It helps foster a secure attachment between you and your child. Here's why... Oxytocin, the love hormone released with breastfeeding, promotes positive feelings of love, attachment and maternal care with children. When we’re experiencing heightened stress which many of the world are feeling right now we release a stress hormone known as cortisol when we’re in fight or flight mode.... But thanks to oxytocin, breastfeeding mothers are found to have reduced cortisol in their bodies and this decrease is also seen in the breastfeeding baby as well. So, breastfeeding not only helps with maternal anxiety and stress in times like now, but also baby’s and it’s also linked to lower incidences of PND. And even if you are unwell, or affected by COVID-19, it’s still recommended you continue to breastfeed while taking necessary precautions not to transmit the infection like washing hands, wearing a mask, cleaning/disinfecting and limiting exposure to other members of the family.
