25.01.2022 Taking care of your mental and emotional health is important throughout your whole life, but it’s important to recognise that there are particular periods in life when mental health issues are more likely to be prevalent. Let's look more in depth...

25.01.2022 If we think about self-care as doing what is necessary to take care of ourselves in the various roles we play, we can start to see that it is not a luxury or self-indulgent, as many people erroneously believe. On the contrary, it makes excellent common and business sense to protect our personal and professional assets! If we also think more broadly about how it can be practiced from the more time-consuming practices, such as leisurely nature walks, massages or longer yoga sessions to including micro-acts that can be done in little time we can see that self-care can be added even to already overflowing agendas. Here are 25 practices that can all be done in very little time for you to consider, do, adapt and build on.

25.01.2022 How are you relaxing this weekend? Exercise, baking, reading, or blissing out in the sun like our guy Miles? However you do it, enjoy! Remember, rest is import...ant. Tess x #psychologist #businesscoach #mentalhealth #businessowner

23.01.2022 Ever heard the saying ‘Success is not a destination, it’s a journey’? When we think about accomplishments, we often focus on how good we feel when we achieve a long-term goal or experience a major breakthrough. These big wins are greatbut they are fairly rare. The good news is that even small wins can give you a spike in positive mood and self-esteem! Celebrating small wins is an important way to track incremental achievements and work toward much larger goals.

23.01.2022 World Mental Health Day 2020 What Does It Mean for Business Owners? As business owners, I can’t stress enough how important it is to not lose sight of the i...mportance of psychological wellbeing. So on this World Mental Health Day, it’s a good opportunity to think about just what that means. Your own wellbeing: It can be a bit of a cliche, but focussing on self-care and self-compassion are the major foundations of survival in business. Management burnout, compassion fatigue, financial stress, decision fatigue, time management pressures there are so many threads that can unravel our wellbeing. So today, take a moment to have an honest look at how you’re doing, and where you can draw on the support you might need (cos we all need it sometimes!). Asking for help is a sign of leadership, not a weakness. Your staff’s wellbeing: While we’re at it, how is your team going? It’s been such a stressful year, it’s easy to overlook the quiet achievers in your team. Take a moment to check in with them. Provide enough time for breaks, including leave breaks, mental health days, etc, to ensure maximum productivity. But more importantly, make sure your staff know that you see them, you appreciate them, and you are there for them. My TOP 3 TIPS for business owners to ensure the mental health of you, your team, and ultimately your business: 1. Take breaks (including lunch breaks!) or YOU’LL break -make sure you and your team have PLANNED breaks blocked into calendars and make them happen. 2. Always have something to look forward to, no matter how small - a holiday, a team dinner, or new office paint - little glimmers of excitement help ease the stress of the day to day. 3. Show appreciation - to yourself, your team, and your clients/referrers. Love and gratitude win. Be gentle on yourself, you’re a superhero! 23.01.2022 Fatigue and brain fog are two very common symptoms of depression. Both are also symptoms of a number of other illnesses as well. Additionally, they are associated with certain periods of life which may not be a disease, but a result of the situations one finds oneself in. It is not critical for you to know if the fatigue and brain fog stem solely from your depression. The result and the solutions are the same wherever they come from. This is not to say that you should not consult with your doctor if you think something is wrong. It is possible they can treat the underlying issue and make your fog clear and give you energy again.

22.01.2022 Reality Vs. Perception. Something to consider?

22.01.2022 The gut-brain connection is no joke; it can link anxiety to stomach problems and vice versa. Have you ever had a "gut-wrenching" experience? Do certain situations make you "feel nauseous"? Have you ever felt "butterflies" in your stomach? We use these expressions for a reason. The gastrointestinal tract is sensitive to emotion. Anger, anxiety, sadness, elation all of these feelings (and others) can trigger symptoms in the gut. Do you experience these symptoms?

22.01.2022 NEW BLOG ALERT Women’s Health Week is now a permanent feature on the Australian calendar taking place in the first week of September. There are many topics that are uncovered over this week, such as female organ care, the importance of cardiovascular health, financial stress around healthcare and mental health. It is just as important to ‘checkup’ on your mental health as it is to keep an eye on your physical health. 21.01.2022 It can be tough out there for introvert parents. By nature, introverted people need more time to recharge. They tend to take in more environmental cues and thus need silence and solitude to process it or else they become overwhelmed or spent. Introverts need to be more precise about managing themselves and finding that alone time, because if they do become overwhelmed they become drained and can be short or seen as antisocial. For introverted dads, little things that may seem... inconsequential to most people can chip away at your parenting confidence. Introverts make up 25 to 40 percent of the population, but for many of them that’s a sweeping statistic that does little to make them feel anything but alone. Adding the responsibilities and stresses of parenthood into the mix can easily exacerbate an introverted dad’s struggle with daily life and doing his best to raise the kids he loves. See more

14.01.2022 We all know that bringing a child into the world can be a time of great excitement and joy for any family, but for some it can also be a time of huge transition and change. A new baby brings so many new challenges including sleeplessness, routine upheaval and stress to the marriage or relationship. It can also bring additional financial pressures that lead to more stress and anxiety!

13.01.2022 Fearing the judgments and rejection of others, you avoid them and find yourself principally in a relationship with your own thoughts and feelings. Unfortunately, often this isn’t such a great relationship. In fact, you’ve probably noticed that you can say critical things to yourself that you would never say to anyone else or tolerate from anyone else for that matter. This article discusses how self-compassion can free us from the grip of the mental judge and jury that is running, or even ruining, our lives.

03.01.2022 Tess’ beautiful friend, New York concert pianist Kariné Poghosyan, has been performing weekly mini-concerts live on FB throughout the pandemic. Do your spirits a favour and enjoy something beautiful!

02.01.2022 How can we as individuals create coping techniques to combat anxiety and its symptoms? More than just feeling stressed or worried. While stress and anxious feelings are a common response to a situation where we feel under pressure, they usually pass once the stressful situation has passed, or ‘stressor’ is removed. Beyond Blue Anxiety is when these anxious feelings don’t go away when they’re ongoing and happen without any particular reason or cause. It’s a serious condition that makes it hard to cope with daily life. Everyone feels anxious from time to time, but for someone experiencing anxiety, these feelings aren’t easily controlled.

02.01.2022 Work-related stress can get the best of us all. Emails, Slack messages, phones ringing off the hook, your co-worker dropping by for an impromptu meeting it’s enough to make anyone frazzled. Feeling some tension is normal, especially if you’re facing a looming deadline or challenging assignment. But when work stress becomes chronic, it can end up affecting both your physical and emotional well-being. Experiencing work strain is unavoidable even if you love what you do but there are steps you can take to keep job stress to a minimum.

02.01.2022 When we first enter a relationship we begin to notice everything about our partner, from what they eat to how they respond to a given situation. For example, we might notice they like to eat pineapple on their pizza, or that they prefer to drink their coffee black. As the relationship deepens, we might start to ask questions about a partner’s likes and dislikes, wants and needs or how they feel about certain situations or scenarios. Our curiosity expands as we want to know how this person ticks. When we do this, whether it’s through asking questions or noticing traits and habits about our partners, in essence, we are creating a love map.

02.01.2022 Crawley House update ... The beautiful artwork of Peter Drew adorns our windows and front door ... not to keep out sticky beakers as we prepare for opening (I’...ve never understand not letting people see your progress. It’s exciting, share!), but rather to extend the warm gentle hug of unity as we wade through lockdown and beyond. Crawley House will become a warm inviting place of support and psychological nourishment for the Melbourne community... and heaven knows we can all do with a bit of that after spending most of this year in lockdown, right? The Crawley Clinic, Enhanced Life Psychology (and another practice, who’s announcement isn’t mine to make just yet) will be providing private psychological services from Crawley House, and we can’t wait! Meanwhile it’s painting, carpet, and ALL of the things that need to be purchased and delivered (interesting challenge, in lockdown!) before we can open the doors. One day at a time, and then before you know it, we’ll be together again! 01.01.2022 In a time of crisis and uncertainty, compassion for everyone may feel even more difficult than usual. Since anger and conflict always generate more anger and conflict in the world, it’s beneficial to remind ourselves of other people’s perspectives along the way . Loving-kindness practice means wishing someone well, like a friend; compassion means seeing their suffering and wishing them free of it. These wishes aren’t meant to be forced, but to act as signposts for our best intentions .

01.01.2022 If you feel like you're always running with scissors, it's time to pause and reconsider.
