15.01.2022 Have you heard of granuloma annulare? This is a common skin condition. It usually presents as smooth discoloured papules which coalesce into plaques. They are usually thickened and ring-shaped or annular in shape. It can occur at any age and is considered to be a delayed hypersensitivity reaction to some component of the dermis. The reason that this occurs remains unknown. Dr Saxon Smith, our principal dermatologist, and his research collaborators recently explored the role o...f antimalarial treatment (hydroxychloroquine) in the management of granuloma annulare. https://www.tandfonline.com/epri/E4CE55K4YIRCMTYPG5NJ/full

13.01.2022 Atopic dermatitis (aka eczema) is a common skin condition in children and adults in Australia. Did you know, it has been estimated that up to 20% of children in Australia suffer from atopic dermatitis to one severity or another? But with the right support most children most of the time do grow out of their atopic dermatitis. ... However, around 4% of adolescents and adults still suffer from atopic dermatitis. Many sufferers can manage with general skin measures (soap free wash, shorter Luke warm showers, and regular moisturiser) in conjunction with anti-inflammatory creams (eg topical steroids, topical calcinuerin inhibitors, or PDE4 inhibitors). But some patients will need extra help with other therapies to best manage their skin such as phototherapy, oral tablets, and injections. My research team and I recently published research exploring the role of the oral tablet mycophenolate mofetil and its efficacy in adult atopic dermatitis. It’s about finding the right best fit for every patient so that you can control your atopic dermatitis rather than it controlling you. #AtopicDermatitis #Eczema #YourSkin #Management #Treatment #Dermatologist #SkinExpert https://www.tandfonline.com//full/10/09546634.2019.1642996
