25.01.2022 Whaa Gwaan Farmers!! So as it's starting to warm up again, SF is starting to crank out garden beds and tiny farms. Here's some of what we have been doing this last 3 weeks with Raised Garden Beds, Chookie installs, Wicking beds, Michelle's Tiny Farm, Wanneroo Community Garden teaching and inspiring kids to enjoy gardening and natural health. I love my job and i love uplifting our community. It's our 11th anniversary of starting SF. While there have been some changes through the last decade, the principles and vibrations behind SF have remained the same. 16.01.2022 Whaa Gwaan Farmers!! Today I decided to pay my friend Laura a visit at her awesome little nursery up in the valley. Little, but mighty! With a wicked cool selection of open pollinated, true to type, traditional seedlings, most of which are also highly medicinal and plenty of seeds to boot! Along with a healthy chat and lots of giggles this was a perfect place to spend a wet and rainy day. Her remarkable ability to utilise traditional growing techniques married with a passi...on for sustainability, this ripper of a place is an excellent example of what proper gardening is about. What is this place I speak of?? From fruiting trees to veg to native edibles all the way through to all your garden needs and wants, all natural and organic. 07.01.2022 Whaa Gwaan Farmers!! So I've noticed there has been quite a few people asking around for compost tea recipes, here's mine I've been using for many years on and off. A simple recipe for veg and another for fruiting/orchard cropping. As it can get very confusing and overwhelming with all the different recipes I thought I'd just go ahead an share mine. Ok, so for Veg/General purposes: (Bacterial Tea) 20l water left over night... 60ml Seaweed Extract 30ml Fish Emulsion 10ml Blackstrap Molasses 100gm Compost 100gm Worm Castings and an air stone/pump. Nut milk bag/paint strainer bag Add the dry ingredients into the tea bag and dunk into water.Add in wets one at a time allowing a few mins between each item. Brew this for 24hrs, strain and mix at 1:10 (1 cup tea to 10 cups water left to stand 24hr) And now for the fruiting trees: (Fungal Tea) Step 1 is slightly more important than the other steps so attention needed :) Add 10ml Fish Emulsion to 50ml water (stood for 24hrs) and pour over compost and allow to work it's magic for 3 days. You will see fluffy fungus appearing and that is exactly what we are looking for! Ok step 2 is similar to the ove recipe. 20L water left over night (24hrs) 100g Compost 100g Worm Castings 30ml Fish Emulsion 60ml Seaweed Extract and Brew for 24hrs. In both recipes you will notice bubbles forming on the surface, this is the bacteria colonies exploding with life. Simply strain and use at 1:10 ratio.
