25.01.2022 More development plans for the Cross. The third one in the past fortnight to be announced or discussed in a public forum. A fresh campaign has been launched to push the City of Sydney to buy the historic Metro Theatre Kings Cross, with the property group which purchased it last year for $19.8 million yet to make public a viable plan for its use. Under the plan, the iconic old Sydney theatre could be brought back to life as part of the battle to win back productions from Aust...ralian show business capital Melbourne and to revitalise former nightlife hot spot Kings Cross. This is a stunning building and we would love to see it restored for public use again. Fingers crossed.

25.01.2022 A big thumbs-up from Terry in last weeks GFM review of new-kid-on-the-block Henrietta Chicken. Predicting the trend of the future: the lines are blurring between eat-in and takeaway, as they both lean in, determined to meet in the middle. Its happening because take-home is creeping closer to restaurant quality, and because restaurants need to be more accessible and inclusive. Henrietta, the brainchild of Ibby Moubadder of the nearby Nour and Cuckoo Callay, is probably the fi...rst well see of many such restaurant/takeaway mash-ups. Adapt or dont.....

24.01.2022 Global Grapevine was founded in 2012 by father and son duo, Robert and Heath Felton. The groups endeavour is to bring a carefully selected portfolio of premium French, Italian and Spanish wines and champagnes, from some of the finest vineyards in Europe, direct to the cellars of Australian restaurateurs and wine lovers. Heath has some great business relationships in the Potts Point hospitality community including his good friend Penny Lawson from Pennys Cheese Shop During... Sydneys recent lockdown the duo held several online cheese & wine tasting sessions attracting up to 120 viewers per session. Wines & cheeses were delivered around the hood on the day of the event. Viewers were able to sit back and enjoy learning about the vintage they were imbibing on their own couch. So wine lovers are for a treat at this years Crafty Dining Potts Point event with Heath matching his fine selection to each of our menu items. And of course he will be there on the night to fill you in on what your drinking. Crafty Dining Potts Point is on Thursday 8th October as part of Sydney Craft Week & Good Food Month We have a COVID safety plan - see our website for details Tickets: $99 + GST Includes all food & wine + cocktail LIMITED TICKETS AVAILABLE BOOK NOW!

23.01.2022 We LOVE this idea! And will definitely be enlisting our business. Thank you Nsw State Govt Office !

23.01.2022 Restaurants on footpaths: why Australias indoor gatherings should be pushed outside in the Covid-19 era. Allowing restaurants and cafes to spread their tables on to footpaths, and opening up public green spaces and car parks to small retailers are some of the suggestions epidemiologists and corporate leaders are making as indoor gatherings continue to pose the greatest coronavirus risk in the coming months. We back this idea 100% especially in areas where there are wide foot...paths and laneways to be used. Although we realise this may cause more noise for upstairs neighbours, surely that is better than all getting sick? If an understanding is reached regarding hours of business conducted outside in mixed residential & commercial zones this could work to ward off Rona. The vibrant atmosphere created by outdoor dining in European cities such as Paris and Rome is one of the draw cards for tourists and locals alike. Bring it on City of Sydney!

23.01.2022 Our match for #craftydiningpottspoint with Booty Shoes Store is the much-loved & adored local fave French restaurant Bistro Rex situated in the heart of Potts Point. A sophisticated Sydney take on a Parisian Bistro with its copper & leather banquettes, honeycomb tile floor, slick service and Euro cocktails. Passionate about utilising Australias finest produce and native ingredients, their talented chef Jo Ward creates modern dishes and French bistro favourites including... french onion soup, steak frites, cheese souffl and chicken liver parfait with specials added daily. A great dining room for a long lunch or a quick pre-show cocktail at the bar while you watch the kitchen at work. On the menu for our event is Frenchy Prawn Toast: - Prawn & Scallop toast, XO emulsion w/ crispy Shiso. Matched with Global Grapevine wines: Chateau du Montfrin, a la reverie Rose or Cotes du Rhne, a la reverie Rouge Crafty Dining Potts Point is on Thursday 8th October as part of @sydneycraftweek & @goodfoodmonth We have a COVID safety plan - see our website for details Tickets: $99 + GST Includes all food & wine + cocktail LIMITED TICKETS AVAILABLE BOOK NOW!

22.01.2022 Eight Indigenous Food Businesses With Online Shops, as Recommended by Mabu Mabu Chef Nornie Bero. Beros Melbourne cafe is known for its use of native ingredients, as well as stocking spices, sauces, teas and more from Indigenous-run businesses around Australia. Here are her top picks. Chef Nornie Bero remembers many happy, shared meals growing up on Mer Island in the Torres Strait.... For her, food has always been about family and friends coming together, and the name of her Melbourne cafe and catering business, Mabu Mabu, means help yourself. Beros menus are known for their use of native Australian ingredients which, at the cafe, means you might sample bush tacos with spiced emu fillet and native slaw; sop sop, a slow-cooked stew with native yams, taro, pumpkin and coconut; or namas (kingfish cured in coconut and lime). All come served with a side of damper baked in banana leaves. Your chance to support a Melbourne and other countrywide businesses Sydneysiders. https://www.mabumabu.com.au/

19.01.2022 The kids at Dulcies Kings Cross are back to their regular weekly trading routine starting tonight. Woo hoo! Because what good is sitting all alone in your room? Tues to Sat open 5pm till late, lets get the cross (responsibly) swingin again!... Photo credit: Josh Raymond

19.01.2022 And now for some new small bar action in Surry Hills, Glebe and Redfern. We are appreciating all new venues even more than usual right now. "People keep opening new bars, amazingly. Either they havent heard whats been going on, or they have unwittingly come up with exactly what we want before we knew we wanted it. These newborn bars are definitely more niche and neighbourhood than generalist and global. Take these three: one is specifically built around gin, one around wine, and one around giving locals a good time. Yet they all give more than they have to, teaming their distinctive, tailored drinks with good food. And not one of them has given up and put a burger on the menu. Cheers to that." - Terry Durack

19.01.2022 Love this new campaign launched by the Night Time Industries Association. Check. Check. Check. encouraging punters to do their part alongside venues to stay COVID-19 safe, has been launched. Aimed at engaging younger going out patrons, the campaign highlights the importance of1following COVID-19 (COVID) hygiene and safety guidelines venues have in place - entry check-in, sanitiser provision and physical distancing directions - and is calling on punters to co-share the res...ponsibility with venues for staying COVID-safe during this tough time. Michael Rodrigues, Chair of the NTIA, said, The entire mission of the campaign is to support our venues in their efforts by showing patrons the simple steps they can take to stay safe whilst still having a great night out Check. Check. Check.was created to be easy to remember and create an association with the words for patrons, Similar to Slip, Slop, Slap, but for indoors, the same way venues are prepping for customers before they arrive, punters need to establish new rituals before they leave the house. In addition to the usual wallet, keys, phone moment most of us have before going out, we now need to also make sure weve got sanitiser and mask. COVID-19 has taken a massive toll on the hospitality sector in NSW, and another lockdown would be crippling, as weve seen in Melbourne. There are so many venues - bars, entertainment, cafes, restaurants - working their hearts out to bring cultural vibrancy to our lives in this pandemic. But venues can only go so far, we need punters to know the important part they have to play so this vital industry can stay open. said Rodrigues. The campaign will encourage the creation of a new going out routine and puts the power of keeping COVID safe with patrons who will be asked to: CHECK in with your correct details at the door CHECK their hands by regularly washing and sanitising Keep themselves and their friends safe by keeping their physical distancing in CHECK We now pack a mini bottle of sanitiser in all our handbags/pockets and a spare mask in its own zip-lock bag for public transport, crowded places and busy stores. Saves the stress of getting outside and realising we have forgotten our COVID tools!

18.01.2022 Minerva Vintage POTTS POINT is our second starting point for Crafty Dining Potts Point and as our first A Date With Mabel is now SOLD OUT you need to book for Minerva! Located in the heritage listed building after which Minerva Vintage POTTS POINT is named, this compact shop punches above its weight when it comes to its vintage fashion and homeware offerings. Carefully curated by its proprietor Gregory Bolton, vintage aficionados often rifle excitedly through its swathes of ...kimonos, piles of old treasured linens and glass cabinets of handmade and exclusively designed jewellery to find their treasure. Minerva attracts local fashionistas, often caters for models and is for those who dont fear fashion. We are looking forward to imbibing in a sophisticated cocktail from Kings Cross Distillery at Minerva on Thursday 8th October as part of @sydneycraftweek & @goodfoodmonth We have a COVID safety plan - see our website for details Tickets: $99 + GST Includes all food & wine + cocktail LIMITED TICKETS AVAILABLE - BOOK NOW!

18.01.2022 We are getting there slowly Sydney. It will be awesome when the smaller venues can have some relief when the square metre rule between inside tables is relaxed more. Baby steps.... https://www.goodfood.com.au//hospitality-industry-praises-

18.01.2022 Monopole 's CBD new dining room looks fab! Co-owner Nick Hildebrandt describes the room with its "brass and glass" mobiles as designer Pascale Gomes-McNabb's "lightest and brightest" interior to date. "When the windows are open it almost feels like you are outdoors," he adds. Head Chef and Co-owner Brent Savage has retooled the menu, introducing snacks such as parmesan and caramelised onion gougeres, steamed snapper with leek, capers, butter and chervil, and steak frites.... Or you can grab a Moreton Bay bug sandwich for lunch. With bookings on the rise at Bentley and visibly more people on the streets of the CBD in recent weeks, Hildebrandt is confident Monopole's move is well timed. Good luck guys! Open lunch Wed-Fri lunch; Tue-Sat dinner. 20 Hunter Street, Sydney, monopolesydney.com.au

17.01.2022 This arvos treat @sonora.mexican Fabulous churros post the $8 taco special. Lovely staff and very tasty food. Yah! Your choice of an outdoor tables or the prime spot of sitting at the kitchen viewing spot. Always our fave for the interection with chef.

16.01.2022 In a follow-up to last week's announcement regarding the voucher scheme for hospitality venues, Australian Gourmet Traveller have asked the industry what they think of this idea. O Tama Carey, chef-owner of Lankan Filling Station in East Sydney, thinks the scheme is not designed to help small businesses on a granular level. Rather, she acknowledges there is a "bigger picture" to boost spending across the state. "We won't suddenly see a big difference in our weekly revenue, b...ut we shouldn't look at it in terms of that," she says. "It's about getting people to do more stuff outside, and anything that encourages a sense of normality is going to be a good thing." https://www.gourmettraveller.com.au//nsw-restaurant-vouche

15.01.2022 Great to read Terrys review of local favourite Et Al with new chef & co-owner Alastair Little in the kitchen. "Et Al has the tiny details of service, steady hand in the kitchen, and non-grabby prices for food and wine that will endear it to the neighbourhood. We are entering an age of conservative, comforting cookery, with very little daring degustation dining on the horizon. Chefs are going back to their real jobs, feeding people, rather than their own egos. Alastair Littl...e didnt even have to pivot, he was already there. Dont think too hard. Just enjoy." Nice of Terry to do away with the review scoring for now "whilst the industry gets back on its feet." Good call.

15.01.2022 This just arrived via Destination NSW in their weekly mail-out. Although its part of a fashion campaign and has nothing to do with food, it does highlight the beauty in the landscape after the tragedy of the summer fires. Also the tenacity of the people in a strong community. We love the magic poem too. Australian lifestyle brand Country Road has released its spring campaign, Regeneration, championing the local heroes and against the backdrop of NSW bushfire-affected communi...ty Glen Alice. The launch film reflects the regeneration of the land and of the people who lived in Glen Alice, at the base of the Blue Mountains in Capertree Valley. Country Road states the campaign was a moment to reconnect with the inspiring people and resilient landscapes of the place Australia calls home. The spring collection features natural fibres, which creative director Kai Tunley said perfectly aligned with the stories Country Road wanted to tell: Its important to use our brand to tell real stories with real people. Those featured in the campaign are captain of the Capertree Fire Brigade Steve Dalli, traditional land owner and artist Peter Swain, and Terrie Wallace, who led a group of volunteers in cooking meals for RFS firefighters. Watch it here: https://www.countryroad.com.au/editorials/regeneration/

15.01.2022 Another new-kid-on-the-block has opened in one of our favourite Potts Point back streets: Kellett. Located in the former parsons bar spot this is a very welcome addition to the scene that already includes Silly Tart Kitchen and HOUSE bar&bistrot. Ezra is a homage to Tel-Aviv and has the perfect courtyard spaces to transport you to that amazing middle eastern city. Former Paper Bird chef Ben Sears is in the kitchen, so we know the food is going to be dam good! Co-owners Nick ...and Kirk Mathews Bowden have dedicated their beautiful new 90-seater bar and restaurant to Tel Avivs cosmopolitan dining scene. But the couple has had a long affair with Potts Point, too they used to co-own French brasserie Bistro Rex around the corner, and they live just a stones throw from Ezras front courtyard. Looking forward to trying out the menu soon.

14.01.2022 Check out our favourite architecture nerd Tim Ross in action. As part of an ongoing series of films he has been making showing some of his favourite places and people in New South Wales...he had to get some architecture in obviously and this is one of the silliest things he has done in a while. Which makes it all the more amusing! Taking the opportunity to run past a bunch of iconic and soon to be iconic buildings in a tracksuit and red sweatbands has been a Rocky channeling ...exercise that he will never forget...the power ballad featured is another Kit Warhurst classic. A bit of a giggle to start the weekend with...

14.01.2022 Here it is: our new video promo filmed on location in Surry Hills & Darlinghurst at the fabulous Brix Distillers Tilly Mays Sydney and Loluk Bistro Sydney. To kick off the evening at Brix we enjoyed a fresh Rum Spritz cocktail with a tasty mezze platter with prosciutto, truffle salami, bresaola, manchego, ash brie, crackers & rum mango jam. ... At Tilly Mays we loved the ocean trout with cauliflower, couscous, pine nut, currant, coriander broccolini, beetroot yoghurt & kale crisp. To finish we indulged in the signature dessert at Loluk of lavender creme brulee. All accompanied by matching wines. Thanks to everyone who made this production possible, including the awesome crew at JJSplice Digital Made with the support of City of Sydney.

13.01.2022 The ceviche Sonora Mexican was on par last night. So fresh and beautifully presented. Tues is also $5 taco night - which we highly recommend! Thx for the great food & service guys x

13.01.2022 Those crazy kids Gelato Messina have created a vovo tub for your enjoyment at home. This pastel beauty was brought to us in 1906 by the American-owned Australian-based biscuit company, Arnotts. Get in touch with your childhood now!

13.01.2022 We recently discovered Rare Medium magazine. Published as an e-mag by Meat & Livestock Australia on a monthly basis. We were very happy to watch the Whats Good in the Hood series - especially when if features a story by fabulous food writer and Editor Myffy Rigby. Enjoy this little bite out of inner West Sydney.

12.01.2022 Looking forward to trying the new-kid-on-the-block Figo Restaurant on the former site of ACME in Rushcutters Bay. Co-owner Mena Labbozzetta moved to Milan for work, where she met Massimo Orobello, who still owns Mare Mosso restaurant there. Orobello returned to Sydney with Labbozzetta, and Figo is their new restaurant baby. Massimo has partnered with his cousin Nick Rullo from Adelaide ... Head chef Mattia Porcellato is from the north of Italy and has worked here [Uccello, Cu...ccinetta]." Figo has our interest. "We like to think it is the Italian version of Mr. Wong," Labbozzetta says. The menu isnt as whacky as ACME, with more of a traditional approach with some gentle upgrades. The carpaccio is wagyu and dressed with truffle pecorino, its tuna tartare partnered with crumbled taralli, like a cross between a breadstick and a pretzel. "Figo means cool in Italian," Labbozzetta adds. Yummo! Open: Fri-Sat lunch Mon-Sat dinner. Shop 3, 56-60A Bayswater Road, Rushcutters Bay Ph: 8323 9883

11.01.2022 If your a fan of the internationally famed strawberry-watermelon cake from Blackstar Pastry, then your going to want to check out their latest opening in The Galeries on George Street in the CBD. Weve always had a great customer base at the Galeries we sell more cake here than any other store. So the move is about making Black Star even more accessible to our existing fans and easier to find for tourists when they return, says Murray. The new stores design pays tribut...e to its original location in the bookstore, with a turning page partly obscuring the interior. A simple glass case displays the cakes and pastries, and theres seating available upstairs for customers who want to savour their purchases. Personally we will be going for the limited edition black-truffle toastie (which has been a hit at the other locations), made with potato-focaccia bread studded with rosemary and button mushrooms and filled with truffle bechamel for our next pit-stop lunch in the CBD.

10.01.2022 A big congrats to bar-within-a-pub Tilly Mays Sydney for being nominated in the 12th annual Restaurant & Bar Design Awards! This year, 16 Australian venues have been selected for the shortlist, including nine in Sydney, two in Melbourne, one in Perth and two on the Gold Coast. There are some impressive shortlisted Antipodean bars: Songbird, which is located in Perths Ritz-Carlton; Hyde Paradiso in Surfers Paradise and The Cumberland, which is tucked away in Manly.... Entries this year covered an enormous variety of hospitality venues, including ships, museums, burger vans, Michelin-starred restaurants and pop-ups. Fingers crossed for the pretty dining room that is Tillys for a win!

04.01.2022 Following-up on our story from a few weeks ago about Monopole moving into the CBD, the team has now announced the replacement idea for the Macleay Street location: RIA Pizza Sydney! The owners describe Ria Pizza & Wine as an Australian pizza joint. Chef Savage will be bringing his commitment to quality produce, working with local growers and suppliers to source seasonal ingredients to top the crisp sourdough bases. Its a step in a more casual direction for the group, which... is known for its fine-dining approach to its restaurants: vegetarian degustation at Yellow, the seafood-focused Cirrus, and the inventive and elegant Bentley. Nick and I both love pizza and we have always joked about starting our own pizza place, Savage said in a statement. When we decided to relocate Monopole to the CBD, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to launch the concept in Potts Point.

04.01.2022 The Monopole crew are on the move in September. Interested to see what the new concept is for the Potts Point space. We have fond memories of a few decadent evenings spent at this trail blazer wine bar and restaurant. All the best with the new CBD venue and the new endeavour guys.

03.01.2022 Feeling very proud of our Potts Point hospo community as several bars and restaurants have chosen to temporarily close this week, in the wake of the COVID cases being investigated by NSW Health at three venues in the area. Its a sensible and measured response that will no doubt protect our community from further spread. Those businesses who have remained open, have reassured their clientele that they are taking all necessary precautions. Keep calm and keep washing your han...ds people. #maskup See more

03.01.2022 Today is Room Tens 10th Birthday! Happy b-day to an amazingly hard-working crew of people. Who would have thought a shoe size box cafe would be such a hit and last so long! And as we know 10 years is really 20 years of work in cafe life. Ironically we always refer to Room 10 when passing the space with guests that it is Melbourne-like in its size and style. And today Andrew & Yuvi are donating all coffee sales revenue to a very important Melbourne charity currently feedin...g those who cant afford food during the COVID lockdown: Hope Delivery By Rockpool. So get down there if you can and buy your daily brew from the team.

03.01.2022 Attention restaurateurs & inner city residents! We think this is a great idea from City of Sydney and NSW Government to tackle food waste. In partnership with the NSW Government, City of Sydney have launched Love Food Sydney. Join to receive free access to tools that teach simple and cost-effective ways to reduce food waste, save money and in doing so, protect the environment.... Why be involved? Food waste is a bigger problem than you may think. Did you know NSW households and businesses throw away more than $10 billion worth of edible food each year? When food decomposes in landfill it releases methane, a greenhouse gas that is at least 28 times more harmful than carbon dioxide. Not only that, when you discard produce you also waste the natural resources like water and energy that go into growing, packaging, producing, transporting, selling and preparing food. By reducing food waste, you’ll be taking action on climate change. What you can expect: Residents upon registering you’ll complete a survey then follow an easy 2-week program created by the NSW Government called Food Smart. Businesses upon registering you’ll be provided with online training modules.

03.01.2022 Congratulations to The Apollo Restaurant who re-open TONIGHT! Go you good thing! The Greek tragedy is over. Were reopening tonight! O P E N I N G H O U R S Monday - Friday, 5pm - late Saturday - Sunday, 12pm - late

02.01.2022 Great to see Destination NSW creating a video campaign for Love NSW of local operators. We loved Dans Instagram cooking tutorials during lockdown - complete with the chaos of a household of young children and his wife on camera. Many of our international tourists are keen to check out Mr. Wong on their trip to Sydney. Sydney locals know where to get legendary Chinese food. #MrWong, tucked away in the heart of the CBD, turns out some of the best duck and dumplings around. ... The creative and culinary brain behind Mr Wong is Dan Hong his passion is bringing people together for exceptional cuisine using amazing Australian produce. Hear stories of his early days washing dishes in his mothers restaurant and his rise to fame.

02.01.2022 Great to see Destination NSW creating a video campaign for Love NSW of local operators. Check out this one for our fave rum distillery Brix Distillers. Located in the heart of Surry Hills is Brix Distillers a craft rum distillery, bottle shop and bar. The co-founders are old school friends and serious rum connoisseurs. The urban distillery produces a variety of unique rums and are in the process of barrel ageing many more styles and varieties to be released in the years to come. Co-founder James Christopher shares his love of rum and how he creates that enticing and rich rum flavour.

01.01.2022 We enjoyed a beautiful dinner with a dear friend @FeiJaiPottsPoint earlier this week. Like all the bars & restaurants in the hood they are suffering from a lack of customers. They have done a quick refit - very moody & chic - so there is more space between the tables and the staff were lovely & very attentive to COVID safety measures.... Please support our local businesses however you feel comfortable: eat-in, takeaway, or buy a gift card for a future feast. So we have somewhere to dine on the other side of Rona.

01.01.2022 Across town we are very pleased to announce that one of our fave modern Korean restaurants, SOUL Dining, has joined our Surry Hills line-up. The brainchild of Illa Kim ( PR & marketing) and Daero Lee (Head Chef) who opened SOUL as their first restaurant together in early 2019. After building and then opening the business through the tail-end of the light rail construction, they have created a loyal following with pre-theatre attendees - Belvoir Theatre is just across the roa...d - and lovers of Asian cuisine with-a-twist. Prepare to sink into a soft, blue velvet seat, in an industrial chic space with low light and great service. SOUL Dining has been described as too Korean to be called modern Australian, but not traditional enough to be called classic Korean. We are planning to indulge in an innovative dessert accompanied by a dessert wine or cocktail treat at the end of a fabulous evening in the hood. We can’t wait to introduce our guests to this unique dining experience.

01.01.2022 More fabulous support from Myffy Rigby for the industry we love in todays issue of Good Food. Last Monday, Melbourne restaurateur Ronnie Di Stasio posted an open letter to the government across social and traditional media, a cry for help asking for the nations leaders to step in and help save hospitality as we know it. "Never," he says, "in Australian history has our mental health and well-being been at such risk." Theres no denying coronavirus is crippling our already-st...ruggling restaurant scene. What can we do to help support an industry thats such a crucial part of Australian life? We asked the hospitality brains trust to give us some advice. Buy that t-shirt peeps! 01.01.2022 Great to see this headline in @BroadsheetSydney this morning! Congrats Melbourne on your re-opening! Sydneysiders take a look at the list and start planning your next dining experience for when the border opens. So relieved that some of our faves are re-opening.... HOSPOS ARE GO!
