The sleepless nights, the nightmares, the tears for no apparent reason, but for so many reasons. People will often be drawn to share their stories with another who shows genuine care and a desire to listen and help. But sometimes that person who is doing the listening will keep the stories with them, rather than empathising, then letting them go.... This is vicarious trauma. For those working in these spaces, it is so important to look after yourself so you can keep looking after others.
