25.01.2022 These are powerful moments. Real people with real pain offering real hope A little taster of what’s to come.

25.01.2022 Wisdom for our time.

25.01.2022 Thought I’d share some thoughts on self-talk. Rumination is the flip side of positive self-talk. It happens when you replay upsetting or cringe-worthy thoughts or events over and over again in your head. Thinking through a problem can be helpful, but if you spend a lot of the time ruminating, small issues tend to snowball. Constant rumination can make you more likely to experience anxiety or depression. Self-talk is important in many ways. It’s the script that we use to frame... our lives. If we constantly give ourselves negative messages, then we begin to develop automatic thoughts that take us from a particular incident to a negative emotional reaction. Conversely, if we engage in positive self-talk, we begin to view the world in a more positive manner and will ultimately feel better about ourselves. We can’t always control what happens, but we can control how we react to it. See more

23.01.2022 We’re over here in Orange today to support Phil Donato’s Mr Perfect initiative. Bbq at the park with some great men. A bit cold but worth the connection and conversation. Well done Phil for this wonderful concept.

22.01.2022 Dubbo City and Gilgandra Toyota is a proud sponsor of Tradies in Sight. Tradies in Sight is a not-for-profit program aimed at raising awarness of the mental he...alth issues that are unique to tradies and providing them with information and support. In an industry where the rate of suicide is six times the national average, this is a vital support network. www.dubbocitytoyota.com.au https://tradiesinsight.support/

22.01.2022 We welcome our men who may need some support especially with these challenging and uncertain times.. We also recognise that there are men who will spend Christmas on their own. We want to create a space where they could find comfort, build positive connections with others to make sure Christmas isn’t a lonely time. This 5 weeks program will aim to help us gain better skills to self care, self aware, self regulate and be able to make positive changes in ourselves but also in o...ur families as well. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday night. Dinner provided. Come hungry.

21.01.2022 As we start this Men’s group tomorrow night. I would like to ask all those that are wanting to participate to please send me a confirmation message via text or ...fb message. That way I can track the numbers and also provide enough food for everyone. Thanks Bruno

21.01.2022 I’m shattered and devastated to hear of the passing of this bubbly and cheerful young man who I got to know for a short period of time. Unfortunately this cheer...ful boy decided to end his life at 18 years of age. So so sad a life ended so shockingly short. I know his family would be devastated and heartbroken at this great loss of a much loved son. And I pray that they can find comfort and hope in the midst of their deep, and excruciating pain. This kid was always cracking jokes and making others smile. People were drawn to him because of his contagious giggles. All the while I knew there was extreme trauma and pain underneath the happy exterior . Usually, I see people use this tactic to divert their pain and mask their deep hurt. It’s a temporary coping mechanism but not a long term fix. The problem is, your triggers are all around you and the strategies to help you cope will get tested and lots of questions will get asked of you. It’s imperative that you have good support network of friends to help you get through adversity. If you are struggling, please get help now. We have local services available and accessible to be utilised. This loss has particular hit me pretty hard because I was there having a chance to make a difference but still came up short. His pain ran so deep that even he couldn’t articulate or identify the heavy emotions he was experiencing. I just wish we could have gotten to the bottom of it... I want to put out the challenge, Let’s pay more attention to the warning signs everyone and let’s get vulnerable, and help save a life.

21.01.2022 TIS have been invited to be at the Eugowra Eagle Rugby league mental health round today. Fantastic to see sports organisations starting to be proactive in caring for their players mental health and well being. Nice day for it and what a great way to connect with players and individuals. RAMHP are also here to support the day.

21.01.2022 Wow! What a year it has been. As much as we all have had amazing challenges, we sure have also learnt so much about ourselves. I dare say that if the year ahead is anything remotely close to the challenges of 2020, I’m sure we will be much better prepared and equipped as a community and as individuals. Here at TIS we wish you all a wonderful and prosperous new year.... We hope that in the new year we can continue to build and consolidate on our efforts up to date, and really take things to the next level. Some very exciting plans coming up, I can’t wait. Thank you all for being part of our Tis journey and hope we can continue this partnership into the future. Much love and peace Bruno. See more

20.01.2022 Men’s business. Time for blokes to get together, be at rest, have a good feed, and just have a chance to chat about things that you don’t normally talk about if you like. Just be yourself. It will be a good 5 weeks of looking closely at the challenges we face as blokes in this day and age, unpacking some old nagging habits and be equipped with new skills to make changes if necessary and to help understand this current generation and its challenges.

20.01.2022 I have been talking to a few parents about this very issue and Bam!! This! And it is happening everywhere. Please have a read at how true this article is to the... core. And this is why I believe we are dealing with so much mental health issues today and unfortunately getting worse moving into the future. We have to address this now.

19.01.2022 Today we wrapped up our Tradies National Health month joint event with a BBq lunch at the Heavy Vehicle and Light Vehicle Tafe campus. It has been a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with Marathon Health, Headspace and Skillset Dubbo in supporting and delivering the message of ‘you are not alone’ to our young tradies. #thesilencebusters... Thanks to Paul Chaseling and his team from Tafe for allowing us to come in and feed the lads. Thank to Barker Barker for being our number one chef. Shout out to Dallas Pomfret and Jon Sutcliffe from Dare Ice coffee for your generous donation to our events. Thank you to everyone that turned up, we will be back soon. #foodthesilencebuster

19.01.2022 Great turn out this morning. There were plenty of good conversation happening around the bbq inspite of the cold weather. When I started TIS a couple of years ago, My wish was that one day, the tough conversation can become a normal conversation in our work place, at home and at our leisure time. Fast forward to two and half years later, we have blokes like this morning turning up ready to have the conversation without the feeling of fear, shame or judgment.... It is really a marvellous sight to be able to witness, and I feel humbled by the small changes we have been able to make in the process. You do have to be there to see it and really soak in what it is a powerful way to build community, grow connections, promote togetherness and instil hope. One step at a time, we are breaking down the barriers. Thank to Headspace, Marathon Health and Skillset for your willingness to collaborate with us in keeping our local Tradies supported in this way. Special shout out to Dallas Pomfret from Dare Ice coffee for your generous donation. Thank you. My main man Barker Barker and Rod too for doing the cooking. Next Friday we’re off to the Heavy and Light Vehicle Tafe Campus on Naromine Rd. Let’s keep the momentum going. Bring a mate if you can and we’ll see you all there.

18.01.2022 Don’t underestimate what you have.

15.01.2022 #dubbocares for October mental health month. Watch this space... #tradiesinsight

15.01.2022 During the mental health month of October, I will be chatting to some of the local families that have lost loved ones to suicide especially during the pandemic. The incredible messages of hope that we can all learn from.

15.01.2022 WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY The media rarely mention the word suicide, which is a hindrance to raising awareness and addressing this tragic issue. Instead toda...y they’re talking about the RUOK initiative. It’s important to ask those around us if they’re ok, but we need to ask it 365 days a year, not just on September 10th. It’s also important for our nation to have discussion about suicide, because we are losing far too many precious people to this premature and preventable death. You would be astonished to know how many people take their own lives. I will continue to raise the issue with Government because they’re still not doing enough to timely target the problem; They’re relying on stats that are sometimes up to two years old. Proactive engagement is essential, such as what Bruno Efoti of Tradies inSight is doing. Bruno’s initiative involves active engagement with young tradespeople, a cohort which has been vulnerable with financial impacts resulting from drought and COVID. It involves gathering around food, an occasion and atmosphere that brings people together and conversation flowing. Keep up the great work Bruno. We all have a part to play in suicide prevention, and it starts with engaging people and getting them connected with help if they need it.

15.01.2022 A community rallying to comfort each other. We have hope.

14.01.2022 Integrating ‘the conversation’ into all facets of life. I hope that intentional communication becomes a normal behaviour. Thanks John Ryan from Photo news for putting this together.

13.01.2022 For more than ten years, NALAG NSW has hosted a ‘Walk Towards Hope’ event in multiple communities to increase awareness of suicide prevention and support servic...es. While that won’t happen this year due to current restrictions, the organisation is pleased to be hosting an online event and remembrance service for all to attend. Coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day today, Thursday, September 10, the online event will feature a ‘Talk Towards Hope’ with a number of leading mental health workers and advocates, including Camilla Herbig from the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program and Bruno P Efoti, founder of the mental health and wellbeing organisation Tradies In Sight. as well as a candlelight remembrance service, where people are encouraged to light a candle in memory of loved ones who have died and as a sign of hope for continued suicide prevention, healing and support. Join NALAG NSW on Facebook from 7:30pm AEST tonight, Thursday, September 10. #worldsuicidepreventionday #walktowardshope #talktowardshope

12.01.2022 Thank you Ben Thompson from Toyota Dubbo, and John Ryan from Photo news for all your support.

12.01.2022 We launched the TIS Have a Feed men’s group last night at the Buninyong SaCC. What a great first night it was to meet new blokes, hear a few yarn and have a good laugh. Blokes told me, they vaguely remembered the last time they had had a good old laugh.. I was just happy to see those smiles come out and they can just be in the moment. Hopefully we can continue that into next week especially when life has been quite unforgiving for a lot of folks.... Just would like to thank Lorna Brennan from the SaCC for allowing us to use the premises. Thanks to these supportive blokes who always offer up their time to help me out with cooking and facilitating, Barker Barker and Paul Hausia. And last but not least, my amazing wife. The amount of work she does behind the scenes is just unbelievable. I literally wouldn’t be able to do what I do without her and I’m grateful for the partnership we have. Thank you wife. Next Thursday we move in to week two, looking forward to seeing everyone there. Malo Aupito.

10.01.2022 Just a reminder for those that are planning to come, please let me know via text message or fb message, so I can cater for everyone. The aim of this event is to raise funds towards purchasing a Food Trailer for our work to continue to reach more tradies and men. I love cooking and feeding people. ... My old dad used to say, ‘if you are cooking for hundred people make sure the second hundred won’t go hungry’. And now my wife asks what are we doing with the left overs .. Food always brings people together, and what great opportunity to bring the Umu( tongan feast)out to where blokes are. I have seen genuine friendships sparked by connections and conversations around food.. And if I can just feed a bunch of blokes because they are starving then that’s a great achievement in itself. So thank you all for helping me help our blokes.

06.01.2022 So, I’ve been shaving my head for over ten years now, mainly because there’s not much on the front or the top. A couple of weeks ago, a mate of mine (Gerard Cra...mpton) said if I didn’t shave my head for six months, he would donate $1,000 to a charity of my choice...... I thought about this for a week or so, and I have decided to accept his offer (challenge). My work colleagues (O'Brien Electrical Dubbo) have already pledged another $600 so far. I have chosen Tradies In Sight as my charity, Bruno P Efoti is doing great work with young tradies around mental health issues here in the local area. I will post regular updates and if you would like to make a pledge, pm me & I will add you to the list, no money will be expected to be paid until the challenge is completed. My last shave was 4th June, so my next will be 4th December (I’m still allowed to shave my face!) This will not be pretty....... See more

04.01.2022 Don’t miss this great night with Local boy- Tom Robertson & Bruno.

02.01.2022 We really need a shed!

01.01.2022 This week is nationally acknowledged as the Men’s mental health week 2021. National statistics claim that Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians between the age of 15-44. And 9 Australians take their own lives everyday- more than double the national road toll. 75% of those are men.... With our work at TIS, we recognise the value in working at grassroots level. While there are plenty of medical and professional options available for men, some prefer a low key, less confronting approach to their mental health and well-being. I have found that grassroots community groups are essential to men’s social connections. By joining a community group you are able to not only connect with other men but perhaps those that may be going through similar issues. It is a very healthy way of managing your mental well-being. If you haven’t joint a community group yet, I know there are a few in Dubbo to pick from. I encourage you to find one that you resonate with and join in. I guarantee you it will help make a change.
