I am a travel agent - I have an advanced degree in accounting, public relations,... marketing, computer science, civil engineering and Swahili is one my more fluent languages amidst the other twenty I speak. I am a travel agent - Of course I remember the reservation you booked five years ago even though you do not have the confirmation number and are not sure if you had booked under the surname beginning with a D or a Z. I am a travel agent - It is no problem for me to book you eight connecting non-smoking poolside suites and yes, it is my fault that the hotel does not have a helipad. I am a travel agent - It is obvious to me that when you booked your reservation for Friday you actually meant Saturday. I am a travel agent - Yes, I am lying when I say that the flight is fully booked and there are no seats left. I am a travel agent - I am never offended when I spend almost all day researching a 12 day European itinerary only to hear you say that you booked it yourself on the internet and made a great saving of Eur 30 with some low-cost airline. And no, I never gloat when you call back to say that you are stuck in the middle of nowhere since your flights were cancelled and you were not rerouted by your internet provider. I am a travel agent - I love it when people walk up to me at parties or over the weekend asking me for availability of seats and air fares to Italy and The Greek Islands off the top of my head. I am a travel agent - Do not bother giving me any dates or destinations since I AM psychic and can read minds and can tell you where you are travelling to before you even open your mouth. I am a travel agent - Of course I know what visa/innoculation requisites are required immediately you ask me about any country in the world. I am a travel agent - Yes I love it when you ask me to book you to.....any destination....any time....money no problem...yeah right !! I smile, I emphatise, I sympathise, I console, I hold my temper, I perform, sing, dance and make coffee... I love my job - I AM A TRAVEL AGENT !!!

15.01.2022 MEETING WITH PREMIER MCGOWAN... Are we really all in this together? This Thursday travel agents are meeting with the Premier to represent EVERY travel agent in WA and all of us desperately request your assistance.... We are not asking for borders to be opened, we are asking for acknowledgement of the services we are providing and seeking financial assistance for this service while we effectively remain under a trade embargo. Our industry was denied this assistance in a meeting with Minister Paul Papalia (Tourism & Small Business Minister who will also be at the meeting) on the 15th of June where it was explained to him that every other State had provided a financial package for which travel agents were eligible. Our WA State Govt. advises this is a Federal issue and while I agree this may be the long term solution, I also believe this State as every other State has already done, would have an obligation and should show a responsibility for us during this unique and unprecedented situation especially given their comments that our State is doing better financially than any other. Why are travel agents less deserving than other industries that have already received assistance from the State (the arts, building, mining, tourism, innovation to name a few)? If we are truly are all in this together, why would the industry hardest hit, who will be the last to recover and who has worked nonstop since day one navigating the nightmare that has become refunds and credits for our West Australian clients not receive assistance? Why would we not be singled out for hardship and for the important task we are performing; retrieving the billions of dollars in refunds that can be repurposed in Australia? We have not had any viable income since March and yet ww continue to personally pay, including using any Jobkeeper, to cover my overheads to perform this public service. WA is doing very well but some of us and our businesses have had to suffer disproportionately to others for the health and safety of us all. Many of you have shown empathy and kindness over the past six months and for this I am truly grateful. Like 70% of other Australians, you have shown that you value the services of a travel agent. PLEASE give your support and take action when it is most needed by contacting the relevant Government departments and endorsing your choice to use a travel agent and our cry for help for financial assistance before our meeting with the Premier on Thursday.
