25.01.2022 Wonderful to see some of our members being recognised on Mother's Day. Shane, Maurice, Liam and Carmen are all active members of the Brigade and it is great to seem them telling their story on the CFA News page.

22.01.2022 You should never wait to receive an official warning before you leave. Fires can start quickly and threaten homes and lives within minutes. Understand the levels of warnings and don’t expect warnings to be issues in any particular order. The first warning you could get could be an Emergency Warning. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrict/about-warnings

22.01.2022 The Fire Danger Period is commencing in Wyndham City Council at 1:00am on Monday 14th December 2020 and will remain in place until 1 May 2021 unless stated otherwise. The commencement of the Fire Danger Period is determined on existing and predicted conditions that lead to increased fire risk to your location.

21.01.2022 Storing and disposing of chemicals safely. Our focus this week is on the importance of storing and disposing of chemicals safely around the home. This is especially important if you have young children at home or visiting. 21.01.2022 Do you know what to do if a Grassfire starts adjacent to your home? The Brigade has recently attended a number of Grassfires in the last couple of weeks in the Tarneit/Truganina & Mt Cottrell area. Most recently last Wednesday 2nd December, where the fire was burning on the other side of the road, directly opposite homes. A Watch and Act advice had been issued, however residents were observed watching the fire from their front yards, rather than walking 2 streets back as per the Watch and Act. If you were unaware of the Watch and Act Advice you need to install the Vic Emergency App on your phone, which will advise you in future.

21.01.2022 2020 has certainly been a year of challenges for so many. Our colleagues from Ambulance Victoria have truly captured the highs and lows in Victoria this year, thought you might like to take a look. https://youtu.be/UWj1oSB_ACc

20.01.2022 Remember as Summer approaches that while we are unlikely to suffer from bushfires in Truganina, Tarneit and Mount Cottrell, grass fires are a real and significant threat, especially to isolated homes and small new estates surround by grassland or paddocks. Watch this video and learn what to do if a grass fire threatens. Türk Ting Vit https://bit.ly/2FOVumW #FireActionWeek #FAW2020

19.01.2022 Our Home Fire Safety message this week is to beware of the dangers of burning candles in the home. Some simple things to remember to help keep your family safe: 1. Always extinguish any candles before leaving home or going to sleep. 2. Only use candles on a stable surface that will not burn. 3. Keep burning candles out of reach of children. 4. Keep curtains and other items that could catch fire at least 1 metre from open flames.... 5. Consider an alternative to an open flame candle, e.g. a battery operated candle. See more

17.01.2022 Although Truganina and Tarneit is no longer considered a bushfire risk area, we still have large areas of grassland surrounding us. As everyone is spending more time at home at the moment and the weather is starting to get warmer, it is a great opportunity to clean up around the outside of your home. Click on the link below to check out the attached video for some great ideas. For further information: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/pla/how-to-prepare-your-property

16.01.2022 National Volunteer Week wave your appreciation! This week is National Volunteer Week (18-24 May), Truganina Fire Brigade together with Wyndham City Council would like your help to say thank you to those who give their time to make our community a better place. We are asking you to wave your appreciation for volunteers by sending in a picture to [email protected]. You can say thank you with a wave of your hand or a sign as long as it’s done with ,a smile! ...Using #NVW2020 #waveforvolunteers This will be turned into a social media collage and put on the Wyndham City Living Facebook page at the end of National Volunteer Week to give our volunteers a big virtual thanks. In addition to this, we are putting a spotlight on volunteers through a series of profiles on the Wyndham Together website, which will also run across the Wyndham City Living Facebook page. About 22,600 Wyndham residents volunteer their time to serve others, this amounts to more than $100 million in unpaid work to the Wyndham community each year. Now, more than ever, is the time to recognise and acknowledge our volunteers who, as per this year’s theme, are ‘Changing Communities. Changing Lives’.

15.01.2022 There is a World Emoji Day? Ok we're in...

15.01.2022 Fabulous photos from our favourite photographer of an incident that the brigade attended last night. Wonderful example of paid staff and volunteer firefighters working together for our Community.

14.01.2022 The Officers and Members of Truganina Fire Brigade are saddened to hear of the passing of our colleague Ken Heddle from Werribee Fire Brigade - CFA after a lengthy illness. Ken achieved the remarkable milestone of 60 years service to his community with the CFA (Country Fire Authority) and was well known and respected for the many ways he was involved with the Brigade and in other roles like with the Melbourne Fire Museum. Our condolences to his family, friends and our colleagues at Werribee Fire Brigade.

13.01.2022 Have you got a Fire Escape plan Grab your family or your housemate and draw up an escape plan. It could save your life. As part of your plan, all family and housemates should know: The two quickest ways out of every room How they will exit from upstairs if your home has a second storey... An agreed-upon meeting place outside, such as the letterbox How they will call Triple Zero (000) Download and print a home fire escape plan template to help create your plan https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au//98971/escape_plan_template.pdf/ See more

09.01.2022 This week's Home Fire Safety message is all about cleaning the lint out of your clothes dryer. Now as the weather starts to deteriorate and people will be more likely to be using their clothes dryers, is the perfect time to be mindful about the potential of a house fire occurring due to the lint filter not being cleaned.

09.01.2022 Although it is pretty cold these days and we are not using our barbeques as much, it is a great time to get your's out and make sure it will be safe and ready for the Summer ahead. Follow these three steps to be sure it’s safe. 1. Check to see if the cylinder is damaged;... 2. Check the hose to make sure it hasn’t deteriorated; 3. Check that your barbecue is clean; See more

08.01.2022 Wanting to get rid of some rubbish around the house? Remember if you are living in the City of Wyndham you require a Permit all year around. Please note you will not be issued a Permit to Burn in a residential area. If you are successful in obtaining a Permit make sure that follow all instructions on the form by contacting FIRECOMM, Tarneit Fire Station and us at Truganina Fire Station.

08.01.2022 It has certainly been a very busy week for the Brigade with numerous callouts, which have included two large Grassfires. The first occurred on Monday 16th November at approx. 2.30am in the morning at Mount Cottrell as a result of a car fire on the roadside spreading to adjacent grasslands, burning a total of 12 hectares, needing a total of approx.. 15 appliances to extinguish the fire. The Brigade was also called to the corner of Derrimut Rd & Boundary Rd Truganina at 12.10pm... on Wednesday 18th November to another Grassfire which burnt a total area of 40 hectares, requiring a total 24 tankers and numerous support appliances. In both incidents the Brigade was assisted by volunteers from numerous CFA Brigades, Fire Rescue Victoria, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police & Wyndham Council. Both of these incidents highlight the need for residents in both Tarneit and Truganina to be aware of the incidence of Grassfires, especially for those who live adjacent to Grasslands. If your home borders Grasslands and a fire starts, just move 2 streets back and await further instruction from Emergency Services. If you live more than 2 streets back, stay at home, close all windows and doors and turn off evaporative air conditioners and monitor advice from the Vic Emergency App. See more

08.01.2022 May your life be filled with happiness and your heart with peace and joy. EID MUBARAK to you and your family

07.01.2022 National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to say a very BIG THANK YOU to all volunteers who give their time to helping their communities when we need them most.... The 2019/20 fire season brought incredible challenges, which we couldn’t have faced without the critical role of CFA volunteers. CFA volunteers are our friends and family and take on many roles to fulfil our mission of protecting life and property. Thank you, not only this week but the 365 days of the year you are there for each and every one of us!

07.01.2022 Well it is something of a Red Letter day tomorrow for the Victorian emergency services. After 129 years service, the MFB (Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade) ceases to exist at midnight tonight. Tomorrow, all MFB members, trucks, stations & equipment will transfer to Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). Joining them in the new organisation will be all the staff firefighters & some other staff from CFA (Country Fire Authority). The staffed CFA stations, including the new Tarneit Fi...re Station, will now belong to FRV as will many of the trucks & associated equipment in those stations. Volunteer firies & support members at the transferred stations (in our area Point Cook, Melton and Caroline Springs) will still be based in and respond from those stations. What does it mean to you? We suspect (indeed hope) you won't even notice the difference! If you call 000 you will still get the same firies on the same trucks... only some will have different badges. There are still exactly the same number of firefighters, trucks and stations servicing our area, the greater Melbourne metro area and Victoria as a whole. You may have seen press articles about disruption and disagreement that is being caused by this change in the CFA and the broader emergency services. What we want you to know and remember is that irrespective of the wrangling higher up, your local firies - staff and volunteer alike - are 100% committed to providing outstanding service today, tomorrow and into the future, the same as we always have been.

07.01.2022 CFA was humbled to receive millions of dollars in donations over the 2019/20 fire season. The support shown for our volunteers was overwhelming and we are plea...sed to announce how we are distributing $20.5m. Highlights include millions of dollars for brigade equipment, a new leadership and development program for volunteers, ten mobile community education vans and mobile tablets for online volunteer learning and training. Donations given to specific brigades are also being spent on ultralight tankers, field command vehicles and other items needed to support our brigades. To everyone who contributed: we cannot thank you enough. Read the full story: https://news.cfa.vic.gov.au/-/cfa-rolls-out-20.5-million-in

07.01.2022 So ... It has been a pretty crazy week for the Brigade and CFA (Country Fire Authority) as a whole with the formation of Fire Rescue Victoria and all the change that has brought. Change can be disruptive and see our focus drift so it is appropriate that CFA has released a new video that reminds us all that CFA still has a clear, critical role in Victoria's emergency services. We are now a purely volunteer service with a very clear focus. What is more, we we still have the strength and commitment of over 50,000 members including 30,000+ operational firefighters who are bound to their communities to draw on in fulfilling that mission. https://www.facebook.com/cfavic/posts/10158972808504416

06.01.2022 Remember outdoor burning is illegal in Wyndham all year round without a permit. If you have a permit to burn off tomorrow please beware of the potential adverse weather, making sure you abide by all permit conditions.

05.01.2022 Truganina Fire Brigade would like to wish all the Dad's out there a very happy Father's Day, but especially to all our Dad's at Truganina, for all you do for us and our community.

05.01.2022 Truganina Fire Brigade would like to congratulate our Captain Mark Hatton and his wife and fellow firefighter, Nicole, on the safe arrival of the newest member of our Brigade family, Baden Colin Hatton born at 9.02am today. Both Mum and bub are doing well.

04.01.2022 Hi everyone. Just a heads up that you may see quite a lot of smoke in the Mt Cottrell area north-west of Tarneit and Truganina today. Our colleagues at Parks Victoria & Forest Fire Management Victoria are doing a fuel reduction burn of around 40 hectares in a native grass land reserve north of Boundary Road in the vicinity of Mt Cottrell Road. Our tanker is also on scene with a crew to lend a hand. We recognise that after the grassfire in Truganina yesterday folks may be a little jumpy, but this is a planned burn and no cause for concern.

03.01.2022 Truganina's Fire safe message this week is Stick it, don’t flick it. Many serious fires are caused by discarded cigarettes, or cigarettes not extinguished properly prior to going to sleep.

03.01.2022 Have you ever heard fire truck sirens and wondered what they are there for? Download VicEmergency, the official app for emergency warnings and information. This app is just one tool to assist you to access emergency warnings and information, however you should never rely on just one information channel.

01.01.2022 Truganina Fire Brigade would like to share with you a very powerful video about teaching your children about being safe around fire. Stop, Drop and Roll is something that we teach the children as part of the Fire Safe Kids program, we are asking all parents to help us reinforce this message.

01.01.2022 Behind every Brigade is a great group of Mums who work very hard in the background to keep us going. Happy Mother's Day to all our Mum's, especially our Captain's wife Nicole who is celebrating her first Mothers day this year.

01.01.2022 Although Truganina and Tarneit are not in a Bushfire area, it is still important to make sure your property is clear of rubbish, long grass and any other flammable materials. It is also a good idea to clean out your gutters regularly.

01.01.2022 Now that COVID restrictions are partially lifted we have been able to re-start training, and we are focussing on being ready for Summer's inevitable grass fires. In this drill we try to destroy long lengths of (fully biodegradable) toilet paper laid out in wavy lines to simulate the edge of a running grass fire. The trick is to do it with the minimum amount of water, giving us the longest possible working time from the 4000 litres of water on board. Turn on captions when you ...watch the video for some commentary. So... we are ready. What about you? Are you outside or on the urban fringe? Do you have a fire plan? Have you cleaned up around your block? Do you understand about moving two streets back from an approaching grass fire? There are lots of great resources at cfa.vic.gov.au or leave a message below and we can message you with information and answers.

01.01.2022 Important update for our community You might start to see our local CFA Brigades out and about training to get ready for the upcoming Fire Season.
