24.01.2022 The AIHL would like to express their profound sadness and deepest sympathies to the Frampton family after the untimely passing of former President and Head Comm...issioner Tim Frampton. Tim joined the AIHL as President from 2006, and served in that role until the AGM in late 2011. Tim's skills as a friendly and pragmatic negotiator were crucial to maintain unity in a turbulent period for the League. His legacy extends from the AGM post 2005 finals through to the finals of 2011 at Docklands, Melbourne. Tim oversaw the launch of the first official AIHL webpage and social media program for the AIHL, and recruited a number of key board members, including Alexandra Hamilton (nee Lata). During Tim's time as President, and then as Head Commissioner, the AIHL hosted increasingly high-profile finals series, including 2006 in Adelaide, 2007 in Penrith in Sydney West (the first to do live video streaming), 2008 and 2009 in Newcastle and 2010 and 2011 in Melbourne at the new facility in Docklands. Tim saw great potential in the League, seeking out partnerships throughout Australia and in New Zealand, and was pivotal in the expansion of the league into Western Australia and the inclusion of the Mustangs in 2011-12. Hockey wasn't Tim's only sporting passion. He used his experience to work with the Football Federation of Victoria and Swimming Victoria in management roles. Outside of work hours he loved playing cricket throughout the Melbourne summers for the Deepdene Uniting Cricket Club. Tim is survived by his wife Robyn, and three children Liam, James and Alannah. He also leaves behind him years of wonderful memories and friendships from his professional and sporting life. Vale Tim Frampton - the AIHL will cherish you as a great leader through crisis, the builder of the successful league we enjoy today. For those of us lucky enough to serve the sport with you, we will cherish your camaraderie and friendship in our memories of you.

19.01.2022 Know Your Northstars 2021 #1. Returning to the bench for Newcastle Northstars ECSL is the ridiculously overqualified, trailblazing Amelia Matheson. Coach Mathe...son has, and continues to do it all as a player, Including, but not at all limited to: -Five time National team Defender, -Two Time AWIHL champion, -Foundation member of the AWIHL Sirens. -TEN time NSW representative team coach. -First ever woman to serve as head coach in an AIHL game. -First ever woman to serve as head coach in the ECSL. Bringing her incredible versatility of individual honors as part of the ‘16-17 IIHF Australian NWT, voted MVP on the back of registering the most goals for a Defender, amassing an positively legendary 1.04 point per game pace across a 7 year career to date, contrasted against the ignominious honor of the 2018-19 IIHF NWT D2A most penalized player, It is safe to say Coach Matheson knows all aspects of the game. Coming on board in relief part-way in to the 2020 Season, She and Assistant Coach Kath McOnie turned the fortunes of a young, struggling team, in adverse circumstances. Putting up a successful campaign to the finals before running into another equally legendary member of Australian Hockey in Alan Becken, unfortunately falling in Overtime. Beyond the many accolades and accomplishments, Coach Matheson brings incomparable passion, dedication and heart to the rink every day. And after a brief, but productive preseason, Amelia’s focus, communication skills and motivational acumen made the Northstars a team immeasurably stronger, hungrier and more unified. We are extremely lucky to have her back, and could not be more excited for the season ahead.
16.01.2022 An update on the structure of the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) Commission: The AIHL advises that Commissioner David Turik has resigned by mutual agreemen...t effective immediately. The reasons for Mr Turik’s resignation are confidential. Recruitment for a new AIHL Commissioner will begin in the coming months. In the meantime, the AIHL is continuing to work closely with the Board of Governors on plans for 2021 and beyond and does not expect any major disruption to ongoing planning or operations as a result of recent events.

12.01.2022 We know you've all been eagerly waiting to find out what's happening with hockey this year. First things first, let's get the bad news out of the way - we're no...t going to be able to hold our usual national competition for the Goodall. Unfortunately, the situation with borders right now means it's too tricky to have everyone travelling from state to state like we usually would. But (and here's the good news) that doesn't mean we're going to have another year without hockey! We're working out the final details with each of the clubs, but you can expect some exciting updates from 10 February on how you can get your AIHL hockey fix in 2021.

07.01.2022 Another year, another successful Ultimate Ice Hockey Championship - Australia event! We weren’t able to take this year’s championship but the Southern Suns pro...ved that they deserved it this year with a convincing 8-3 win in Game 2 last night. Well done! Thanks to John Caputo and Perth Realty Group for putting this whole thing together successfully once again, and to everyone else behind the scenes who help make this event as good as it is! Lastly, thanks to everyone who came out to watch and support! Hope you had as much fun as we did on the ice! To next year!
06.01.2022 Sometimes, the TV show This Is Your Life flew in one international guest, and in Pat Gregory’s case it was the American rhythm skater Bobby Blake, her partner... from Holiday on Ice. They were good friends on and off the ice, and Pat was overjoyed to see him. They broke into a spontaneous re-creation of their Holiday on Ice production number.
