25.01.2022 The results from the East vs West shoot-out competition are in! Drum roll........................... The winning club is..................................... WAUPS! Well done and congratulations to everyone who entered from both Snappers and WAUPS. There were some really great images in what were less than ideal conditions on both sides of the country. Each club will be showing the submitted entries plus the Top 5 from each club in each category at their next meetings. We'll show the images at the WAUPS May meeting next week and we also have a special prize for the highest scoring photographer in our club.

23.01.2022 Congratulations to Tammy Gibbs, winner of the WAUPS Image of the Year for 2019 as voted by the members at the AGM last night. This image of two speckled adult Atlantic Spotted Dolphins and a yet-speckled calf was taken in The Bahamas in August 2018.

It's going to be a big one with the announcement of the 2018 Novice Portfolio Competition awards, and a fab presentation from Wade & Robyn Hughes about photographing Humpback & Sperm Whales! 20.01.2022 Our March meeting is all about Caribbean diving with club members Leanne and Tammy giving a trip report of their recent diving adventures in Grand Cayman and Bonaire. We are back at our usual venue so see you at Drabble House in Nedlands (behind the Nedlands library) at 730pm on Tuesday March 24.

20.01.2022 Unfortunately the Paint the Port event in Freo tomorrow has been cancelled. WAUPS was looking forward to showcasing our member's images taken in our local waters and we hope to be able to share the exhibition with you another time.

18.01.2022 In light of the current COVID-19 situation, the Committee has made the decision to make our March meeting a fully virtual meeting. Meeting details including the video link were emailed to members this afternoon, please let us know if you didn't receive them. Any non-members who would like to join us, please email [email protected] to receive the link. Cayman and Bonaire... WAUPS members Tammy Gibbs and Leanne Thompson will be presenting on their recent trip to the Cayman Islands and Bonaire in the Caribbean. The trip included a wide angle lighting workshop with Alex Mustard and a week and a half in the shore diving capital of the world. Tuesday 24th March, 7:30pm



17.01.2022 Our club will be at the Paint the Port community event in Victoria Quay in Fremantle on March 14 from noon until 4pm. Come down and check out an exhibition showcasing images from our members taken in our local waters. Lots of other fun stuff to do and hang around to wave off the Queen Mary 2 as she departs Freo at 6pm.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Brad Pryde who was the highest scoring WAUPS photographer in the East vs West shootout. Brad submitted three stunning images in the colour, open and patterns/textures categories, all taken over just two days of shooting. Well done Brad!

13.01.2022 There's a couple of competitions closing soon that may be of interest to members. The first is the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year (closes Jan 25) and the second is the OZTek2019 Underwater Photography Competition (closes Jan 31). Please note that these competitions have strict rules/T&C's and they are different for each competition so make sure you read them carefully before entering. Particularly take note of the timeframe when the image was taken, amount of post-processing/cropping allowed, images having won previous competitions, upload specs for entries, and geographic location the image was taken. Links in the comments below.

12.01.2022 The March meeting isnt far away now! We are looking forward to hearing from Ross Gudgeon. Tuesday 26th March Drabble House, 2 Webster Street Nedlands ... Open to all! About the speaker: Ross learnt to dive in December 1979 and still remembers the thought that went through his head on his first dive clearly, Ive gotta get a camera, no one is going to believe this!. Three months later he got his first underwater camera, a second hand Nikonos III and has been taking photos underwater ever since. A portfolio consists of 6 images placed on a black background that work well together. It is judged annually in November and is sponsored by Perth Scuba.
