24.01.2022 Today is the feast day of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, the patron saint of young people. Born in Italy, his first words were the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. At the age of 9 he decided he wanted to have a religious life and made a vow of perpetual virginity. To safeguard himself from possible temptation, he would keep his eyes persistently downcast in the presence of women. He kept up his many devotions and at 18 he became a Jesuit. Soon after, a plague broke out in Rome, and he ...volunteered at a Jesuit hospital where he cared for the sick and dying. After being forbade to continue working for fear that he would contract the disease, Gonzaga refused. Shortly after, he fell ill, and remained so for several months before dying at just 23. Beatified in 1605 and canonised in 1726, Saint Aloysius Gonzaga is also the patron saint of young students. For his compassion and courage in the face of an incurable disease, he has become the patron of both AIDS sufferers and their caregivers. St Aloysius Gonzaga, pray for us. #youth #aloysius #Aids #carers See more

19.01.2022 Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, known for evangelisation and his baptising of Jesus Christ. Born to Zachariah and Elizabeth, who were otherwise too old to bear children, the Angel Gabriel visited them to say they would have a son and they should name him John. He began public ministry and was known for attracting large crowds across the province of Judea and around the Jordan River. When Jesus came to him to be baptised, John recogn...ized him and said, "It is I who need baptism from you. Jesus insisted John baptise Him whereupon the heavens opened, and the Spirit of God was seen like a dove. The voice of God spoke, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. John instructed his followers to turn to Christ, calling Him the "Lamb of God" and these people were among the first Christians. Following his baptism of Christ, John's popularity grew so much that he alarmed King Herod who ordered him arrested and imprisoned. John spoke with Herod on several occasions and condemned his marriage to his half-brother's wife which would prove to be his downfall. King Herod promised to grant a wish to his daughter in revenge for John’s condemnation, and she asked for John's head which King Herod reluctantly obliged. 11.01.2022 The first of four stations has returned to us after being completely restored. Isn’t the difference just amazing! A comparisons has been shown to see the detailed work that has gone into the restoration of these aged artworks. These will be available to see in our church this weekend, but we ask you to respectfully not touch these stations. Once our church roof has been replaced in the near future, we will be keen to raise funds for the rest of these stations to be restored.

07.01.2022 Dear Parishioners, it is a very uncertain time for us over the next few weeks. As you know I have been in New Zealand since Monday and have managed to see my Mum each day after returning a negative Covid test. I needed to be sure I wasn’t bringing the virus to NZ. This morning I was fortunate to celebrate Mass in our local parish with Fr Arul OFM, who is the Parish Priest here. My intention for the Mass was my parish community in Waverley. All is going well and I will be back on Wednesday to join you in lockdown. Blessings and peace, Bernie.

06.01.2022 As you may have noticed, a booking system is on its way to our website and Facebook Events for our Christmas & New Year Masses.
