23.01.2022 A guaranteed good time

20.01.2022 "This book was originally made for an audience of two - my two young daughters. I wanted to challenge some of the big forces that were shaping their futures: environmental decline, divisiveness and uncertainty. I set out to do this by taking a broader view of our dot and celebrating who we are, where we come from and where our dreams may take us. But all of that sounds terribly serious, which this book is not. It is also a journey into the wild imagination of a child and I ho...pe it captures some of the fun, colour and strangeness of being a young person on our blue dot." Zeno Sworder on his book, this month's WellRead Kids selection, This Small Blue Dot. We have exactly two copies left if you'd like to purchase as a one-off delivery or get your subscription started with this title. It comes with a colour-in tote bag too! Beautiful pics by Bear Hunt

19.01.2022 Laura here, WellRead’s co-founder. Here I am this time last year sending out our third monthly selection. To think we’ve just sent out our 15th fills me with pride and appreciation for the WellRead community. Thanks to you wonderful lot, something that was once a pipe dream became a side hustle and then a small business. I still do a happy dance with every new order (not sure if that will ever get old) and I still believe in the immeasurable power of reading. Hooray for good people and good books!

18.01.2022 Today would have been Mary Oliver’s 85th birthday. Her words as relevant and generous as ever.

15.01.2022 Other books we've enjoyed this month: a beautifully packaged hardback that shares the experiences of Indigenous women and girls, brought together by author and host of the Tiddas 4 Tiddas podcast Marlee Silva; Elena Ferrante's first novel since the Neapolitan Quartet; and an intimate memoir about changing identity, complex sexuality, and enduring family relationships. 15.01.2022 Introducing our October selection Transcendent Kingdom - Yaa Gyasi's stunning follow-up to her acclaimed international bestseller Homegoing. Narrated by Gifty, a sixth-year PhD candidate studying neuroscience, Transcendent Kingdom is a profoundly affecting portrait of her family: Ghanian immigrants in Alabama who have been devastated by the hard realities of contemporary America. This is a story about love, loss and inheritance. It’s about the tension between science and fait...h, about surviving the hypervisibility of being Black in small-town America, about the intersection between race and poverty, and the ways we seek to rationalise emotionally incomprehensible things. There is so much crammed into this novel and yet it is entirely accessible and, dare we mention that overused term, unputdownable. It also happens to be the kind of book that accumulates nuance and impact and relevance the more you let it percolate; we thought about it for weeks after finishing it! Sign up by October 7 to receive Transcendent Kingdom as your first selection.
