22.01.2022 Most of us know the large Mazzucchelli Jewelers chain but did you know where it originated? The Mazzucchelli Family were farmers in Victoria. One of the sons, Matthew Ernest, learnt the trade of watchmaking in Melbourne. He arrived in the Goldfields around 1896 and commenced business in Lane Street in Boulder 1903. The famous clock was installed outside the shop shortly after opening and for many years the timetable of the Boulder to Kalgoorlie Tramway service was based on th...is timepiece. It was moved to their new premises in Hay Street, Perth in 1920. The clock was donated and installed by Mr A Mazzucchelli for the official opening of the Golden Mile Museum (now Museum of the Goldfields) in 1968. FUN FACT! The Clock has a big winding mechanism upstairs in the British Arms building - our VSOs have to wind the clock every day and to be set at the right time, the museum-facing side has to be 5 minutes behind for it to be right on the street-facing side!
