18.01.2022 UP CLOSE WITH THE HIGHLY VENOMOUS TIGER SNAKE!! (Watch with volume) While out searching for tiger snakes with friends at a lake near Perth recently we came acro...ss a tiger snake on a footpath that had obviously been killed by someone who bashed its head in. This was a further reminder that we as humans have a long way to go to evolve past our old ignorant beliefs that a good snake is a dead snake. Please watch and listen to the main points I try to make during this short video. 1) Snakes are defensive not aggressive and their intent is not to harm you! They are simply scared wildlife defending their personal safety using ‘defensive posturing’ where a snake will rear up, hiss, flatten out its neck and occasionally advance towards any perceived threat. This is often mistaken for ‘chasing’ and aggression by humans because we don’t live in a world where we’ll get eaten if we don’t develop defensive behavior. 2) Watch as the snake uses defensive posturing and mock strikes to offer me every opportunity to back away. 3) Just because you see a venomous snake does not mean it has to be killed. There are thousands of them living in close proximity to people and for the most part they do a very good job at keeping out of our way. If you leave them alone they will continue to do so. 4) Bites are very rare unfortunate accidents and are entirely survivable if you learn basic snakebite first aid, own a few compression bandages, and seek immediate medical attention if bitten. 5) Lastly, snakes are protected animals under Australian law and therefore it is illegal to kill them. Only in self defense can you resort to killing a snake. This doesn’t include killing it just for being there! See more
