25.01.2022 Our next Contagion Design event on 4 November, 4pm (AEDT) explores how biological and social forms of contagion interact. How do suggestion and affective atmospheres shaped by fear of contact, crowds and contamination prompt new habits, and how is the governance of populations managed through the prohibition or reform of old habits? What role does suggestibility play in infrastructure redesign focused on the logistics of prevention and safety? Find out more and register: https://bit.ly/3iPyou2

25.01.2022 So You Care About Indigenous Scholars?, a new poster series sharing Indigenous peoples' experiences in the academy, has just been launched and is free to download and share. The posters are a collaboration between Indigenous scholars Dr Corrinne Sullivan (Western Sydney University), and Dr Carolyn Smith and A/Prof Beth Piatote (UC Berkeley), with allied ‘stage crew’ provided by non-Indigenous scholars Dr Jessica Weir (ICS) and Dr Sibyl Diver (Stanford), and are produced by ...Ad Astra Comix (Canada). The first poster, Extraction Zombies (just in time for Halloween!), highlights the tokenism and minority tax experienced by many Indigenous scholars. Find out more: https://bit.ly/3oooK5o

02.01.2022 Congratulations to Dr Michelle Fitts who has been awarded an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) to explore the lived experiences of Indigenous Australian women with traumatic brain injury. We look forward to welcoming Dr Fitts to ICS in the near future. Project description: Domestic and family violence that leads to traumatic brain injury is a significant disability concern, yet, little is known about the intersection of the two for In...digenous Australian women. They experience unacceptably high rates of head injury, 69 times higher than other Australian women. Qualitative exploration with Indigenous Australian women with traumatic brain injury, their families and the services who support them will seek to bridge the gap between research and practice and help inform the service delivery of disability, health and family violence agencies. The research will result in a body of work that explores their daily lives to understand the cultural, geographical, psycho-social needs and nuances of their lived experiences. See more
