23.01.2022 Introducing another one of our amazing & inspirational guest speakers for our 8 week Anxiety/Womans Wellness Group. Dianne Ross. As it is for so many people diagnosed with Parkinsons, Dianne Ross started noticing things werent quite right. Looking back she believes there were signs of her condition some 5 years before it was confirmed.... A fit and healthy woman in her 40s, Dianne started feeling a lack of strength on her right side, especially during weight training. But when her finger developed a tremor, she suspected something was wrong. Dianne was diagnosed in February 2019. Given her age, she has what is referred to as Young Onset Parkinsons. She is a wife, mum to a teenage daughter, still working, active and involved in her community events at Murray Valley Bushwalking Club. The same month she was diagnosed, she hiked the Overland Track in Tasmania. Later that year went onto hike Mount Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and 2020 3 Capes, Tasmania. Thats on top of reaching the Everest Basecamp in Nepal in 2017 and hiking the Inca Trail in Peru in 2018. Every year, she does several hikes in the Victorian High Country and is particularly fond of the Bogong High Plains. On top of that, she loves her local CrossFit classes. We are looking forward to hearing Diannes personal journey in a few weeks. Remember if you havent confirmed your spot yet make sure you do before its to late!

Thank you Lisa for your continued support of Winter Solstice. Join Lisa and people from all over Australia (and the world) as we acknowledge and remember those affected by suicide here on our Facbeook page. Sunday 21 June at 6pm Thanks to Helen at Nomad Films

22.01.2022 I would like to introduce another one of our guest speakers: Bec is a co-facilitator of the Albury Mental Health Self Help group and has been doing so for the past 2 years. This group is run through WayAhead NSW which is associated with mental health NSW. Bec herself was diagnosed with anxiety and depression after the birth of her first child which was approximately 18 years ago. It was thought to be present, low lying since her adolescence. It has been an ongoing battle for Bec with many challenges along the way. Bec would like to share her story and let others know they are not alone.

13.01.2022 Dianne Ross you were amazing Monday night. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with Parkinsons. You certainly nailed the public speaking and we all got something from your strength and resilience. Just a heads up with the NSW border closing the group will still be going ahead at this stage with Annette Baker scheduled as our guest speaker for next Monday. If anyone has any concerns that live in Albury- you can come to Wodonga however my understanding is you just ...need a permit to cross back which you can get from the below link I will share. The permit is allowed for cross residents within 50kms. Ive been overwhelmed with interest for this coming week so if you could please message me to confirm you are coming or not that would be great. Looking forward to seeing you all Monday. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au//apply-covid-19-nsw-border-

10.01.2022 Id love to introduce one of our amazing & inspiring woman who will be sharing their story with our 8 week group! Annette Baker is truly an amazing woman. Dont forget to book your spot as positions are limited! Annette Baker is a community advocate, spokesperson and fundraiser for issues around mental health and suicide. In 2011 Annettes 15 year old daughter, Mary, took her own life after a three year battle with an eating disorder. It was then that Annette and her family ...vowed to fight to remove the stigma and silence associated with suicide and raise funds and awareness in the Albury Wodonga region and beyond. In 2012 the Border Mail newspaper wrote a story about Annettes family and invited them to front a local campaign named Ending the Suicide Silence. The story, called Its Time To Talk, won a Walkley for Journalism award. The weeklong campaign resulted in 54 news leads, 12 front page stories and was the start of a community campaign to get then Minister for Health, Mark Butler, to allocate funds for a headspace youth mental health facility for the area. Headspace Albury Wodonga was finally opened in 2015. Annette Baker has been instrumental in creating several non profit, community support groups and fundraising events for mental health. She is the founder of Survivors of Suicide and Friends and an instrumental organiser of Winter Solstice and Albury Wodonga Big Splash. Annette Baker is also on the taskforce committee for Australians for Mental Health. In recognition of her tremendous work in raising community awareness and fundraising, in 2016 Annette Baker was nominated for the Australian Mental Health Prize. In 2017 Annette Baker was also a finalist for the NSW Regional Woman of the Year. A photograph taken of Annette Baker by Natalie Ord in tribute to Annettes work in breaking down the social stigma associated with mental illness and suicide was also a finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2017. Annette is based in Albury Wodonga where she lives with her family. See more
