25.01.2022 It's Sunday, what's a hippo to do? But did you know hippos can even sleep underwater, using a reflex that makes them pop up to take a breath and sink back down without even waking up!

23.01.2022 We've just heard that South Africa is opening its borders to international travellers again on 1st October! Okay, so there is still Covid-19 screening required and a fortnight's quarantine on your return, but we're allowing ourselves a wee "woohoo!" at this little ray of hope

23.01.2022 The remarkable fishermen of Myanmar's Lake Inle use a unique technique - holding the oar with one leg, they balance on the other, standing up so they can see the fish in the reed-filled lake. A net cone is lowered into the lake, trapping the fish where they can then be speared from above! Taking agility, skill and years of practice - don't try this at home!

22.01.2022 Wishing you a snuggly Sunday

22.01.2022 How about a Friday Flashback! Our Sales Executive Davina has been reminiscing about a trip to the Galapagos Islands a couple of years ago. Ever the 'Selfie Queen', we're not sure who was photo-bombing who!

21.01.2022 Heading to the beach today? Thought we'd inspire you with some images from Ras Kutani Beach Lodge in Tanzania. Sigh.....

20.01.2022 Wellness is a bit of a buzz word right now, but it is at the heart of one of our favourite retreats - Kamalaya Koh Samui. An award-winning Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa Resort, Kamalaya is on the Thai island of Koh Samui. Peace, tranquility, lush tropical surroundings, delicious healthy cuisine and a range of programs to get you back at the top of your game. A couple of the team here at World Journeys visited more than once and came back with rave reviews. Maybe next year? There are some great early booking deals on right now - check them out here https://tinyurl.com/y2pfkgh9

19.01.2022 'Island hopping' is normally something you'd think for for the Greek Islands right? Yes, we can do that, but did you know we can also get you island hopping around Croatia, the Galapagos Islands and now for the first time, the Arctic! Not quite so tropical, but equally amazing; hop off to the Shetland Islands, the far flung Faroe Islands and the remote Jan Mayen Island (not to mention Norway and Iceland). Incredible natural scenery, tiny hamlets, marine and bird life await. Hop aboard! https://tinyurl.com/y6cxurvu

19.01.2022 As we head into spring, the northern hemisphere approaches autumn. A great time to visit Japan, and equally spectacular as the famed cherry blossoms of spring!

18.01.2022 Namibia is like nowhere else. An ancient land of towering dunes, endless deserts, traditional tribes and wildly rugged coast. And where else in Africa can you find authentic German konditorei! See more at www.worldjourneys.com.au/namibia

18.01.2022 At 3,660m above sea level, the Salar de Uyuni is like another world. The salt flats are like a mirror in the rainy season, a crystalline landscape in the dry. Kachi Lodge offers luxury dome suites with true Bolivian flavour. Flamingos and vicuna are among the wildlife, or for relics of ancient life, trek to the archaeological site of Alkaya with its mummies. At night, the starry skies are simply breathtaking. Reopening 1st December. (Thanks Amazing Escapes for the pics!).

18.01.2022 Walking with the family. There's no better way to spend a Sunday! These guys were spotted in South Africa's Amakhala Game Reserve, on a Sunday....

17.01.2022 If you could only have coffee one day a week, I bet that day would be Monday! You can get coffee galore at Arusha Coffee Lodge in Tanzania, staying right in amongst a coffee plantation. Take a 'Bean to Cup' tour of the plantation to see how the coffee is grown, harvested, dried, and produced into the aromatic coffee that we crave on a Monday.

17.01.2022 To all those who have been pushing...stuff...uphill all week. Well done, you made it!

17.01.2022 Imagine this was your setting for tonight's dinner! The Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort is two hours' drive inland from Muscat (Oman). Set among dramatic canyons, it is one of the world's highest resorts. Be there from March to mid-May to see beautiful Damask roses blooming on the mountain slopes. Stunning!

15.01.2022 Meet Mr Higgins, the greeter at Ballyseede Castle Hotel in Tralee, Southern Ireland. The castle's 30 acres of private gardens and woodland are his playground; the welcoming of guests his responsibility. Irish cuisine, luxury accommodation, and an Irish Wolfhound - unforgettable! Photo credits to Tara O'Donoghue and Emily Doran

15.01.2022 A new experience is brewing in Canada! Breweries across BC are now able to host tastings again, so BC Ale Trail has been launched to connect craft beer lovers with the more than 200 breweries in the province. The ale trail in Whistler is a great example, taking you to not only craft breweries, but also to a wood fired pizza restaurant and a Forged Axe Throwing experience, probably best experienced before the beer tastings . #newexperiencesarebrewing #ExploreBCNow

13.01.2022 An absolute master of camouflage, this little guy is hard to spot, but was spotted, in Namibia's Namib Desert where survival is indeed a fine art!

11.01.2022 When Cancun's coral reefs were getting damaged by divers and their boat anchors, an idea was hatched to provide an alternative diving location, and so was created the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park. The 500 sculptures were created in the likeness of locals, and they were 'planted' with coral from damaged reefs, aiming to eventually create a new reef. Who knew art could save oceans!

11.01.2022 Those indulging in a traditional Thanksgiving dinner tonight can look forward to roast turkey, candied yams with marshmallows, green bean casserole, ambrosia salad .... not forgetting pumpkin pie! Happy Thanksgiving y'all!

10.01.2022 Mexico’s Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is all about verdant jungle and marshes, lagoons, teeming reefs and diverse flora and fauna, with crystal clear tropical waters and even Mayan ruins for added interest!

08.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone! Better days are coming....they're called Saturday and Sunday

08.01.2022 Fancy escaping to a log cabin in the wilderness sometimes? Have we got the place for you! Algonquin Log Cabin in Ontario, Canada, accommodates up to 12 people, and with no electricity, internet or cellphone coverage, it's the perfect escape from 'it all'. By day, hike Algonquin Park, kayak on Lake Surprise, go dog-sledding in winter, fishing or read a book. By night enjoy the wood-fired sauna, devour the chef's creations and gather around the huge fireplace to tell tall tales of the day's adventures. Bliss....

08.01.2022 Legend has it that, on seeing Iguazu Falls, Eleanor Roosevelt (former US First Lady) said "My poor Niagara!". There is no doubt that Iguazu Falls is simply spectacular, being the widest falls in the world, and set amidst lush rainforest. Viewed from either Argentina or Brazil, we highly recommend you do both as each side offers a completely different perspective. Stay at the Belmond Hotel das Cataratas Hotel on the Brazilian side, and the Gran Melia Iguazú on the Argentine side - both are the only hotels inside their respective National Parks, and both are just a short walk to the falls. Keep an eye out for coatimundis, toucans and even the elusive tapir!

08.01.2022 The beautiful Blagaj tekke (Dervish monastery) was built around 1520 at the height of the Ottoman empire. You’ll find it just outside Mostar (Bosnia & Herzegovina), at the source of the Buna River.

07.01.2022 Mmmmm....Cuba Libre! OK, so we can't get you to Cuba right now, but we can help you to create Cuba's favourite tipple at home. Fill a glass with ice, squeeze in two lime wedges, in goes the Havana Club rum, top up with cola (1 part rum, 2 parts cola) and stir gently....cheers!

07.01.2022 Those on low-carb diets look away now! The arepa is one of the most traditional foods in Colombia and Venezuela, dating back well before Spanish colonization. A flat, round patty usually made from maize, the arepa can be baked or fried, plain or stuffed with tasty extras. Sorry dieters, but, yum! #colombianfood #arepas

07.01.2022 Physical distancing comes naturally in the remote Tswalu Kalahari Private Game Reserve in South Africa. Tswalu is also one of the best places in the world to spot elusive species such as aardvark, pangolin, bat-eared fox, brown hyena and aardwolf. New this season is a customised photographic safari vehicle and on-site photographic studio - could you take shots like this?

06.01.2022 Whether it’s in Greece, Italy or your own back yard, there’s something about bougainvillea that says summer. The good news is, having just experienced the shortest day, we are on our way to sunshine!

05.01.2022 Ciudad Perdida could be called 'the other' Lost City and is actually around 650 years older than Machu Picchu! Set in Colombia's Sierra Nevada de Santa Maria mountains, these ruins can only be accessed by a climb up over 1,200 stone steps, through dense foliage. Once home to over 2,000 people, the Tayrona, Ciudad Perdida is thought to have been abandoned during the Spanish Conquest, and only rediscovered in 1972. Who knew!?

05.01.2022 Today marks the day in 1871 that the words "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" were spoken by Henry Morton Stanley, on meeting the famous explorer in a tiny village on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Livingstone failed in his mission to find the source of the Nile, but he did lay claim to being the first white man to lay eyes on the wonder of Victoria Falls. His statue gazes over the falls today.

04.01.2022 Rising out of the Thar Desert like a medieval sandcastle, Jaisalmer is a sight to behold. With all the colour and bustle of a Rajasthani city, it's Jaisalmer's ancient fort (built in 1156) and royal palace, that make it such a stand-out destination in India.

04.01.2022 One of our favourite places to stay at Lake Titicaca is Ecolodge La Estancia, on Sun Island. Built into restored pre-Inca terraces, their eco-friendly cottage homes offer incredible views of the lake, and a glimpse of the culture and heritage of the local Aymara people. The Andean cuisine is delish!

03.01.2022 At around 3,500m above sea level, La Paz is the highest capital city in the world, surrounded by the snow-capped mountains of the Cordillera Real. Makes sense then that one of its public transport options is a cable car!

02.01.2022 With a skyline to beat all skylines, Doha is an incredible city, home to 99% of the population of Qatar. Browse the Souq Waqif (market), watch camel races, take a desert dune safari and catch a glimpse of the lifestyles of the super-wealthy!

02.01.2022 Work on the Great Wall of China began in the 7th century BC, aiming to keep out invasions by northern nomadic tribes. Tell that to Ghengis Khan who broke through in the 13th century! The invaders these days are tourists, with more than 10 million people visiting the Great Wall per year (pre-Covid)!

02.01.2022 We love the expression "luxury gone wild", and the perfect example can be found on Canada's Vancouver Island at Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge . Accessible only by seaplane, you'll find luxury canvas 'tents' complete with king-size beds, ensuite bathroom, cast iron heated stove and a private deck. Explore the pristine forests and rocky shores of Clayoquot Sound, go heli hiking, horse riding or wildlife spotting, or maybe visit a First Nations ancestral village. Oh, and of course there's the fine dining and the spa.... Truly an escape to the wilderness, in the lap of luxury. For more, see https://tinyurl.com/y34uxngo

01.01.2022 Antoni Gaudi was a Catalan modernist architect whose most lauded work includes the yet-to-be completed church of the Sagrada Familia. Colourful, unique and wildly organic, it is well worth checking out his works in Barcelona when you're next in the vicinity....
