25.01.2022 Instant asset write-off increased and extended Let your business clients know about changes to the instant asset write-off. The threshold has increased to $30,000, and has been extended to 30 June 2020.... The instant asset write-off now also includes businesses with a turnover from $10 million to less than $50 million. These businesses can claim a deduction of up to $30,000 for the business portion of each asset (new or second hand), purchased and first used or installed ready for use from 7.30pm (AEDT) on 2 April 2019 until 30 June 2020.

22.01.2022 Annual SMSF lodgments due 15 May If your self-managed super fund (SMSF) is not eligible for the 5 June lodgment concession date or required earlier, then 15 May 2019 is the due date for annual returns and any required payments. For SMSFs that lodge their transfer balance account reports (TBARs) annually, and members who had a transfer balance account event occur in the 201819 financial year, the TBAR is also due on the same day as the annual return.... If you are working towards lodging your routine TBAR by the due date but can't make the deadline, you don't have to seek a formal extension of time

08.01.2022 Scammers fake ATO phone numbers There is a current scam involving pre-recorded robocalls impersonating the ATO and threatening immediate arrest for an unpaid tax debt. The scammers use a technology known as 'spoofing' to show a genuine ATO number on the caller ID. Please let your staff and clients know if they receive one of these calls or a voicemail, to hang up or delete it. If your client has shared personal information, or has made a payment to a scammer, encourage them to call our dedicated scam line on 1800 008 540.
