25.01.2022 Soil trials done at Yaloak Estate to see the effects of soil amelioration.

24.01.2022 Tasmanian farmer Michael Nichols used to budget about $100,000 annually for his fertiliser needs. However, with grid soil mapping he now saves an average of $20...,000 annually in input costs. With his wife Rochelle, Michael farms 385 hectares in a high-rainfall zone on Tasmanias north-west coast producing wheat, canola, mustard, potatoes, onions, peas, buckwheat, pyrethrum and poppies. Michael decided to try grid soil mapping to explain yield variability after yield mapping, the Nichols first foray into PA, showed marked differences across paddocks. By applying variable management, yield variation has been slashed from 40% to 20% between highest and lowest yield and overall average has improved. 20.01.2022 Harvest season is fast approaching, this is one of the most valuable times of the year to see how our inputs and management decisions have paid off. Yield maps that have been properly reconciled with actual paddock grain totals form an invaluable layer to your overall precision farming data set, our consultants can work with you to address any underlying issues that may be affecting yield variability on a paddock and whole farm scale. The maps below represent yield data from two headers before and after data cleaning and reconciling with paddock actual grain yield.

18.01.2022 Soil Nutrient Budgeting: Crop nutrient inputs are a major cost for growers, and soil nutrition is often misunderstood due to the sheer number of influencing factors. Working with your agronomist we can help to build a detailed crop nutrition plan. An extensive analysis of measured plant- available water capacity, rainfall forecasts and zone or field specific yield expectations are the building blocks that we use to help you put together a crop nutrition plan.

02.01.2022 The time to book and enquire about soil sampling is now. Using a Christies soil corer mounted to our side by side JD gator, were able to collect intact core samples to depths of up to 1.1m with minimal impact to your crop and paddocks. Grid or zone based soil sampling can be conducted using rapid soil sampling equipment or intact cores depending on your requirements. Open soil pits are a great way to accurately sample to soil horizons and to help identify soil constraints. All sample points are logged using Trimble mobile GPS software, giving us the ability to revisit any sample point if required in the future.

01.01.2022 Exciting times ahead for Yaloak Estate and the subsoil amelioration program.
