25.01.2022 ...what we do with our practice... we start to care and to take notice of what we’re doing. We take responsibility of what we’re up to... take charge of what i...t is we’re learning, how we’re learning and how we arrive to our mat - these words from Caroline Coggins in her recent online class as part of the @iyengar.yoga.australia #seniorteacherseriesiya Niralamba Sarvangasana (unsupported shoulderstand... but the more correct translation is ‘without support whole body pose’). 16.01.2022 For those who come to class online I will teach a morning intensive online next week Tuesday 24th to Friday 27th November. I found this seed wandering along the beach at Grassy Head a few weeks ago. She was poised there, ready for the movement that would blow her to her next place to do her next job. Right there in that moment she was so clear and perfect she took my attention. So I took this photo to remember her lightness. This grass seed seemed so fragile yet resilient, re...ady to go and do. We are asked to go, to do, to respond, yet it is impossible to do that without some centre to go from. Iyengar Yoga develops, focuses, stretches us physically, mentally and emotionally. I look at this grass seed and see only this dynamic aliveness. Everything takes a time, even letting go, and nature teaches us great skills in living this life. Perhaps the big thing always is the humble kindness we must grow towards ourselves. We are mostly nothing like like this grass seed, but sometimes we taste a lightness in our mind and body during practice, not because of anything great but because we arrived and could let be. Join me for these days. If you are unable to attend the live stream please let me know and you can have the class sent to you to do it in your own time. The cost of the 4 days is $80. If you have a 10 class pass please use it, or purchase 4 casual class $88. Or a bank transfer. Write and I will give you details. [email protected]

15.01.2022 Here's the poem by Adrienne Rich, from Saturday morning's class: The problem, unstated till now, is how to live in a damaged body in a world where pain is meant to be gagged... uncured un-grieved-over The problem is to connect, without hysteria, the pain of any one’s body with the pain of the body’s world For it is the body’s world they are trying to destroy forever The best world is the body’s world filled with creatures filled with dread misshappen so yet the best we have our raft among the abstract worlds and how I longed to live on this earth walking her boundaries never counting the cost #yoga #poetry #inspiration

11.01.2022 In 1997 Geeta Iyengar taught an international 3 week intensive for women - there were a few of us from each country and of different ages. It was a watershed time in my yoga life, and has continued to guide and teach me. I think this was Geeta's intention - to shine light on the life of women lived in their ever-changing bodies. Women's dreaming Saturday September 26- 27th 12pm to 4pm... I do not plan to recreate this experience, only to start to share. How has yoga moved on over the last 20 odd years? A lot! And women in their practice, how do they relate to it? Women are not men. They cannot practice like a man, or think like a man either. They have to learn their own way. This is what totally inspired me, how do we teach/learn to truly become ourselves as a woman? This is the task. There are two options for attending, online and studio-there are a limited number of spaces in the studio. Please write to me at [email protected].

09.01.2022 Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you feel most alive and go do it. What the world needs is people who have come alive. 07.01.2022 Poem's by fourteenth-century Kashmiri mystic Lal Déd - read by Caroline in this morning's class: Gently, gently I weep for you, my soul. You've lost your heart to Mr Illusion. You've forgotten who are you. And this iron anchor,... not even its shadow will remain behind when the time comes. Love-mad, I, Lalla, started out, spent days and nights on the trail. Circling back, I found the teacher in my own house. What brilliant luck, I said, and hugged him. #yoga #poetry

07.01.2022 Did you tune in for the interview and online class with Caroline on Sunday afternoon? Here's the poem she shared, by Adrienne Rich: Vision begins to happen in such a life as if a woman quietly walked away from the argument and jargon in a room... and sitting down in the kitchen, began turning in her lap bits of yarn, calico and velvet scraps, laying them out absently on the scrubbed boards in the lamplight, with small rainbow-colored shells sent in cotton-wool from somewhere far away, and skeins of milkweed from the nearest meadow original domestic silk, the finest findings and the dark blue petal of the petunia, amid the dry dark brown lace of seaweed; not forgotten either, the shed silver whisker of the cat, the spiral of paper-wasp-nest curling beside the finch’s yellow feather. Such a composition has nothing to do with eternity, the striving for greatness, brilliance only with the musing of a mind one with her body, experienced fingers quietly pushing dark against bright, silk against roughness, pulling the tenets of a life together with no mere will to mastery, only care... #iyengaryoga #poetry #seniorteachers

02.01.2022 This morning's poem, from our Spring retreat in Lennox Head... I WORRIED by Mary Oliver... I worried a lot. Will the garden grow, will the rivers flow in the right direction, will the earth turn as it was taught, and if not how shall I correct it? Was I right, was I wrong, will I be forgiven, can I do better? Will I ever be able to sing, even the sparrows can do it and I am, well, hopeless. Is my eyesight fading or am I just imagining it, am I going to get rheumatism, lockjaw, dementia? Finally I saw that worrying had come to nothing. And gave it up. And took my old body and went out into the morning, and sang. #yogaretreat #poetry #iyengaryoga
