As a lecturer in Adult Migrant English Program at South Metropolitan TAFE and being a migrant myself, I felt a deep urge to help community members from all backgrounds to find a belonging and thrive. ... Volunteering WA has been awarded a substantial grant from the Woodside COVID-19 Community Fund to create an online one-stop-shop for the recruitment and management of volunteers. We plan to revamp our current IT platform, which is used by thousands of organisations across Australia! The generous support from Woodside has come at the perfect time, as community organisations begin to reactivate their volunteering programs after the initial impact of COVI...D-19. There is a growing demand for volunteers to fill long-term positions to help deliver essential services and this project will ensure the vital support of volunteers continue. Terri has been volunteering at Grow Australia in the south west for 1 year, sharing her personal story, victories and growth. At Grow I have had lots of opportunities to help me make a positive change. I choose to volunteer because I get to help others and I can learn from them also. It helps with confidence, growth and positive role modelling. In my role as a volunteer I have been part of sharing my personal story with inpatients in the mental health ward, information sessions with our fieldworker, Grow group meetings, leadership meetings and promotion. My first contact with Solaris Cancer Care was while I was studying, I totally fell in love! Ive been very blessed to have met some amazing people during my time there, clients & other volunteers. Ive made life long connections. ... It has been an absolute pleasure being able to use my knowledge & skills to help relieve some of the complications associated with cancer & chemo. 14.01.2022 Meet a Volunteer Margaret has dedicated an incredible 16 years to volunteering! She wears many hats, including being chairperson of the The Probus Club of Byford and Districts Inc, SJ Seniors Group Inc and the Byford Daytime Weight Watchers - just to name a few! My volunteering started 16 years ago as a result of a horse riding accident. I have met so many interesting people, forged lots of friendships and have been able to help many people along the way. 10.01.2022 The BHP Engineering Team has bean (pun intended!) very busy at Foodbank WA this week. The team helped chop 129kg of green beans and 360kg of brussel sprouts to go towards cooking 2,000 vegan meals to people in need. What an amazing team effort!

07.01.2022 In a Volunteering WA skills-based volunteering project like no other, Charlies Wish was granted by a team of volunteers from Woodside Energy, Rio Tinto, DSM Consulting along with students from The University of Western Australia and facilitated by Make-A-Wish Australia Perth Branch. Led by Woodside employee Mary Hewitt, the team worked tirelessly for over two years to create a robot designed by Charlie himself to protect his room from his little sister. At the age of 8, Charlie was diagnosed with the degenerative condition Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. 06.01.2022 Its good to be back volunteering! Our CEO Tina Williams took part in spontaneous volunteering on Sunday with Friends of Yellagonga Regional Park Inc. Over 700 local species were planted at Lake Goollelal by 20 conservation volunteers who are passionate about protecting and restoring biodiversity in their local area. The forecasted rain is much welcomed for these seedlings to help give them the best start!

04.01.2022 Meet a Volunteer Everyone say hello to Lesley & Charlie! For 10 years Lesley has been volunteering at the Bethesda Health Care palliative care ward every fortnight with her pet therapy dog Charlie to visit the patients. After looking after my mother with dementia for 8 years and going through my own cancer diagnosis, I made the decision to retire. I then started volunteering at Bethesda with my pet therapy Cavoodle, Charlie. Charlie has always had an affinity with patients..., more so since his own hospitalisation after being run over in 2012. Charlie has lots of love to give and brings joy to the patients at Bethesda with every visit. Ive met many wonderful staff & volunteers who are now friends who give Charlie a hug and a treat whenever we visit. Volunteering has given me purpose and fulfilment. Lesley

Volunteering has been part of my life; it has always been my nature to help others as well as learn from others. I love to broaden my outreach to the community and engage with the wider student body, as well as other organisations, to learn about the world around me.... Toby has been a committee member of the Quinns Rocks Junior Cricket Club for 12 years and is currently the director of coaching. I have a passion and love for the game of cricket, to help younger cricketers achieve their goals is as rewarding as achieving them yourself. To be a small part of a club that gives a lot to the community and also gives a sense of... belonging in the community is a driving force as to why I volunteer. Fay has been volunteering for the last 2 years at the Fremantle Library Wanjoo Welcome Lounge, an inclusive drop-in space for Freos over 55s community. I help people understand essential technology learnings and help familiarise them with their own smartphones, laptops, tablets and other devices. With the rapid advance of technology, many older people can be left behind. They can feel overwhelmed, ...apprehensive and socially isolated, especially, if they have no one who can help them. Through sharing my knowledge, I hope I can make a difference in a persons life by taking away their fear, building their confidence and helping them thrive in our tech-driven world.
