25.01.2022 My job takes me to some wonderful places and I meet truly wonderful people. The Rural Fire Service and the team at Coulston Aviation are no different. Friendly, down to earth and remarkable at what they do. I've thrown some pictures together over the years of some of aircraft in between busy schedules. Last year will always be remembered for the exceptionally tough fire season and losses it brought. We can all help. This season donate money, water, non perishable snacks and meals to help the volunteers at your local Rural fire station. #gardenslawns #nswrfs #heroes #bushfires #skycrane #horsleyparkrfs #charity #fire #firefighter #gypsylady

24.01.2022 *** Weed free Wednesday *** Madeira Vine - declared a noxious weed that is seriously overtaking the Australian bush. The plant produces nodules/tubers which easily fall off when manually removing the parent plant. These will undoubtedly grow into a new infestation. The tuberous roots look similar to sweet potatoes. The leaves of the plants are green in colour and heart shaped. This vine is difficult to control and a must for experienced removal. It can involve a number of poisoning treatments and manually removing the roots in serious established populations. I have successfully treated these weeds. Phone me for assistance. #gardenslawns #madeiravine #weeds #nswdpi #glyphosate

24.01.2022 Might call it a night. Smithfield done. Two more at Wetherill Park left for tomorrow evening. Well illuminated for night mowing. Strobe worked at the beginning of the night. Check the wiring tomorrow.

24.01.2022 Important to properly prepare any site prior to laying turf. Loose, non compacted soil will allow excellent water penetration, enabling root systems to establish deep and rapidly. Fertiliser spread prior to laying. Rolled flat and topdressed. Note the topdressing is holding moisture at the edge of the rolls. Hot weather and regular watering will see this turf thrive. 23.01.2022 *** Weed Free Wednesday *** Do you have a lawn clover problem? If you do it can be time consuming to get on top of but worth the effort. Clover is a winter weed that lies dormant throughout the warmer months and re emerges once again when the conditions are right. It is not unusual for fresh seed to potentially lie dormant between 5-7 years. The use of a selective spray will eventually eradicate your lawn of clover but persistence is the key. If you need help with your clover problems or any other weed issue call us on 0428 407 747. #gardenslawns #weed #weedlife #clover #yates #searles #scotts #lawns

21.01.2022 A busy day at the airport for the helicopters. Nice cool breeze too strong to spray weeds. But a great result. #bankstownairport #bankstownhelicopters #heliflite #redbaron

21.01.2022 It was a beautiful day at Wisemans Ferry cemetery. This tree wasn't of primary concern, but recent heavy rain off the mountain side washed past it's roots. Winds were also a factor. It's amazing that these heritage listed tombstones escaped damage. Peter Hibbs arrived in Australia on the Cirrus with the first fleet. Solomon and Jane Wiseman established the township of Wisemans Ferry. They were the local pubs original owners. Their remains are placed here too. The original co...nvict built road can still be seen cutting through the cemetery complete with drainage. If you're looking for something to do the area is well worth a day trip with the family. Bed and breakfasts are also available for a full weekend stay. #Wisemans #covicthistory #firstfleet #gardenslawns See more

21.01.2022 With the weather reports indicating this will be our coldest week so far this winter, lets talk frost. Plants will readily tolerate frost and snow as cold weather doesn't bother most plants. Damage done to plants isn't due to frost as you may think, but more the sun's rays being magnified by the ice lying on the leaves. To minimise the sunburn on plants you need to hose down frost just prior to the suns rays hitting the plants/grass. There will be no visible signs of damage to the leaves if this is done. This Thursday is meant to be the coldest of days, with Stanthorpe in SE Queensland expected to be -1/-2 degrees. #gardenlawns #frost #wintergarden

20.01.2022 *** Friday's at 5 *** As we head closer to Summer it's really important to consider mulching your garden beds. The benefits include greater retention of moisture, promotion of good soil health and inhibit weed growth. For areas prone to termites I recommend Cypress pine chips or fines and for other areas a good hardwood chip will suffice. A thickness of approximately 5cms is sufficient. They also come in a range of colours to suit your garden theme. Warning: Be careful to... not place woodchip against the base of plants as this can promote collar rot. We use Turtle Nursery and Sundown Landscape supplies as they have a fantastic range of products. #turtlenursery #sundown #mulching #tgif #weekendwarrior #greenthumb #gardenslawns #soil #mulch See more

18.01.2022 I missed publishing my Fridays at 5 yesterday. Busy days and relentless heat. I physically crashed. Watering, do not water your lawn during the heat of the day. With temperatures topping 40c over today and tomorrow it's best to give your lawn a deep soaking this evening. Tomorrow evening provide some light follow up watering. With some basic care, lawns are tough. If you haven't already done so, these above average temperatures is a reminder to mulch your garden in preparation for Summer.

16.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday's at 5. Today is all about Cutting heights of your mower. The biggest mistake most people make is cutting their lawns too short. Cutting heights vary according to the type of Grass. Couch is cut shorter, 30-40mm with best results coming by the use of a cylinder mower; for Buffalo, Kikuyu and other common grasses I recommend a cutting height of no lower than 50mm. These heights should be maintained all year round, raised only in Wint...er should there be a risk of frosts. Leaf can tolerate burn, root zones cannot. Cutting grass too short can lead to exposed dirt. This leads to two major problems - Moisture loss and weed germination. As grass struggles, weeds thrive without competition. Grass surrounding these patches is weakened, allowing weeds to further spread. Sources of weed infestation start with exposed or compacted dirt, where grass is severely compromised. Heavily compacted areas should be aerated with a lawn corer, top dressed, Gypsum added and heavily watered. If you have any questions don't hesitate to comment below. Have a fantastic weekend. #TGIF @gardenlawns #lawncaretips See more

15.01.2022 Wanting to get out and enjoy the nicer weather spring has to offer? Rydal is a small historical town near Lithgow with beautiful country views. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the daffodils. Spring festival is held annually on the 1st and 3rd weekends of September (12th/13th, 26th/27th ). We loved an Autumn visit. Colours were amazing. Drive on further to Bathurst or Mudgee and make it a weekend escape if you wish. Plan your trip soon. #rydal #historic #picnic #familydrive #daffodils #spring #supportrural #bathurst #mudgee

13.01.2022 Today's job was not for the faint hearted. Tall, dead and dangerous. The longer a deceased tree is left, the more dangerous they become. Branches shatter when hitting the ground. Lowered safely by rope. Some were made into wood chip, some terrific firewood was also distributed.

13.01.2022 Water hydrants should be regularly cleared. In the event of a house fire, emergency services can lose valuable time trying to locate the nearest main. It's been a long while since they've been officially serviced.

13.01.2022 We specialise in large area weed control. Our quad bike is fitted with a 70L spray tank and a 7m spray boom that allows easy small acreage spraying.

12.01.2022 He's not very happy. Mr Pout a lot.

12.01.2022 Had a little visitor in my client's mulch pile today. I think they have found their next nest. #gardenslawns #bushturkey #mulch #bush #cheeky #squatters

12.01.2022 *** Weed free Wednesday *** Have you seen this weed on your latest walk? Today we are talking about Green Cestrum (Cestrum parqui). This pretty yellow/green flowering plant is a killer. It is poisonous to humans, pets and livestock. I have unfortunately seen this plant poison and kill a 1tonne bull from ingesting a small quantity of leaves. It contains a toxin that causes liver and brain damage. Bushes are still poisonous after they have been cut down or sprayed. This in...troduced plant is commonly found in residential and rural lots and is declared a noxious weed. We have treated this weed successfully with a range of herbicide treatments including Glyphosate however the plant must still be manually removed and destroyed as they are still poisonous. It's very important to make sure that you wear protective clothing. For all your weed treatments contact us on 0428407747. #gardenslawns #weeds #Yates #glyphosate #noxiousweeds Photo credit DPI NSW website. See more

06.01.2022 Saw something today that you may find of interest. Gypsum, a mined mineral that assists in breaking down clay. It is also used to make gyprock sheeting for internal walls. This was lost on a main road, broken down in part and lying in the gutter. It had already attracted worms. Recycled gypsum can contain up to 30% paper from the reclaiming process. It is a cheaper alternative to raw virgin product on acreage.

06.01.2022 This morning's job. Quick tidy up at Dural. #faganpark #modelflying #acreagemowing

06.01.2022 A little bit cold on our family drive today. A late freeze to what was a mild winter. 6 degrees top temperature. The snow was thick and widely distributed across the Oberon district.

05.01.2022 Weed free Wednesday. Alligator weed. This is another shocking invasive weed from South America. It can grow virtually anywhere, from dry paddocks to wet creeks like a water Lilly. It's roots can grow to a metre depth. Hard to control in heavily infested areas due to it's strong root growth. In more tropical zones, there is an Alligator weed flea beetle that has been imported and used successfully to eat it to eradication, released by csiro scientists with the approval of the government. This beetle doesn't cope with winter in the southern states. Declared a noxious weed in all states. Causes allergies and skin conditions in dogs.

05.01.2022 Working smart and efficiently, not hard. No aches, sprains or blisters. Massive pile of green hardwood just 6 weeks cut split in just over an hour and a half. Dad posed for a photo operating the machine. Automatic lifting table was a dream come true. He's set for a few warm winters. #superaxe #whitlandsengineering #australianmade #curnowbroshire #combustionheating #firewood

01.01.2022 A bit of broadleaf weed spraying this afternoon. No wind and wonderful conditions. Finished up just as the NSW Police air wing were about to practice some rescues.
