01.01.2022 Meet Annalise and Nakiya, two friends from playgroup. As part of #NAIDOC2020 their families have shared what NAIDOC means to them. Nakiya is a proud Yorta Yorta, Latji Latji and Mauritian girl. For Nakiya and her family NAIDOC is about celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with the wider community, and is a time to teach other kids about their culture. Kayla Goder, Nakiya’s mother, explains that schools’ cultural plans for Aboriginal and Torres Strait ...Islander children are important for each child’s connection to culture and wider reconciliation. Annalise is a proud Narungga, Wemba Wemba and Yorta Yorta girl. Her family are local and deeply connected to their culture and community and have a long tradition of participating in the NAIDOC march. The march signifies their commitment to strong culture, strong families and strong identity. NAIDOC is a time for all to come together to celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
