Authorised officers discovered several short weatherboards missing near the door of McDonald’s Hut, in the Wentworth State Forest. 20.01.2022 The final bridge for this week is the humble Storers earth top bridge. This bridge was located at the Bonang Road end of Storers Track but collapsed after being impacted by the fires last summer. It has now been replaced with a 600mm concrete culvert with end walls. Storers Track is well-used by our crews in far East Gippsland as a key access track to the Old Orbost water reservoir and Youngs Creek Falls walking tracks. ... While no longer technically a bridge, the new crossing is much safer and reliable for locals and Forest Fire Management crews which we think is worth celebrating! 17.01.2022 Residents in Mallacoota, Wangarabell and Mt Koolabbra near Bonang and surrounding areas may see or smell smoke from the ignition of the following planned burns today, Tuesday 10 November. Piles of bushfire debris, Mallacoota Township Piles of bushfire debris, 3.5km north east of Bonang Piles of bushfire debris, Wangarabell Road Wangarabell... These fuel reduction burns aim to reduce bushfire hazards leading into summer. We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern and encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. Under the current public health advice, our planned burning program can continue for now. If that advice changes, we will make any adjustments necessary in consultation with Victorian Department of Health & Human Services, Environment Protection Authority Victoria, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Vic Emergency. Our crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure we can safely continue operations across the state. 15.01.2022 Today’s bridge replaced after the bushfires is the Glen Arte bridge. The Glen Arte bridge provides essential access to a private residence and is a popular thoroughfare for visitors traversing through the forests of far East Gippsland. Without a safe bridge in place, recovery clean-up was postponed, but is now underway.... The new bridge can accommodate heavy firefighting machinery, is made of fire-resistant materials (steel and concrete) and has a design life of 100 years ! Along with some minor road improvements, this new bridge has vastly improved access for locals and our crews to respond to bushfires and conduct forest management activities in the area. 13.01.2022 Happy NAIDOC week 2020! NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each year to recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.... The theme this year Always was, Always Will Be recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Check out a short clip where you can meet some of our DELWP Gippsland First Custodians. Please note our staff wore masks while not on camera and followed all physical distancing and proper hygiene requirements while making this video. 10.01.2022 Bridge number three replaced after the bushfires is the Pyramid Creek bridge in Club Terrace. This bridge provides access to homes as well as strategic access to Club Terrace for firefighting and other forest management activities. Replacing this bridge was no easy feat! It required specialised engineering solutions and consultation with utility providers as the bridge site hosts crucial electrical, gas and communications infrastructure ... Complex safety management systems were developed to ensure the safety of workers and the vital infrastructure during construction. Like the Glen Arte bridge, this bridge can now accommodate large firefighting vehicles and has a design life of 100 years. Bushfire Recovery Victoria Snowy River Mail
