24.01.2022 A 46 year old female cyclist has been seriously injured in a bicycle crash on the Tasman Bridge bike path this morning. Police and emergency services remain on the scene on the Tasman Bridge near Montagu Bay end. The woman has been taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition suffering head injuries. Inspector Brett Berry said that the crash did not involve another vehicle or person.... Early investigations suggest that the woman was riding her bicycle on the northern side of the Tasman Bridge east bound about 9.50am when she appeared to hit part of the bridge and fell from her bike onto the track, he said. The woman was wearing a helmet at the time. At this stage it appears to be an unfortunate accident and is not suspicious. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing. 22.01.2022 Three Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang members have been charged following a search of the clubhouse in East Devonport yesterday. Police located a quantity of stolen property, a firearm, ammunition and a small quantity of drugs at the scene. As a result of the search, a 36 year old man, a 33 year old man and 25 year old man who are all members of the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang were charged with a number of offences including consorting, wear prohibited insignia and cont...ravene the conditions of a notice. The 25 year old man has been bailed to appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court on 19 January 2021. The 36 year old man and the 33 year old man have been held for court. 22.01.2022 Tasmania Police is investigating the circumstances surrounding a house fire on Bogan Road at Golden Valley yesterday. At approximately 3:00 PM, police and the Tasmania Fire Service were called to the rural address to find the house destroyed by fire. No one was injured in the fire. Police and Fire scene investigators are still conducting investigations to determine the cause and nature of the fire.... 19.01.2022 Detectives from Glenorchy CIB have charged a 15-year-old male and 17-year-old female with arson relating to the fire at Cosgrove High School that occurred approximately 8.00pm on 21 November 2020. Investigations conducted by Tasmania Fire Scene examiners determined the fire to be deliberately lit, which caused extensive damage to one of the school buildings. Tasmania Fire Service investigators estimate the damage to the building and contents to be up to $2 million. Whilst charges have been laid, police would still like to speak to anyone who has information in relation to the incident or observed suspicious activity in the area. 17.01.2022 A total of $46 million will be invested over the next four years to ensure Tasmania Police has the best possible information technology systems to help support frontline officers in solving crime and helping keep Tasmanians safe. The next stage of Project Unify - an initiative to replace Tasmania Police's ageing ICT systems - will improve how we respond to and solve crime, resulting in a safer working environment for police, and improved outcomes for our communities. Members... of the public will also be able to use an online portal to report certain categories of crime as part of the initiative - making it easier to report crime. There will also be enhancements to system security to reduce our cyber security risk. "This is an exciting development for Tasmania Police, and offers a once in a generation opportunity for us to build better services for our communities, and safer systems for our people," Commissioner Darren Hine said.
17.01.2022 Police have charged a 17 year old Riverside youth with the armed robbery at Keros Fish & Chip shop which occurred about 4pm on Tuesday. The youth has been detained to appear in the Youth Justice Division of the Launceston Magistrates Court tomorrow. 16.01.2022 Police have charged two youths, aged 16 and 14 years with Arson, in relation to a house fire that occurred in Rosebery on Sunday 8 November. The building was destroyed as a result of the fire, which was valued at approximately $80,000. The youths will appear in the Youth Justice Court at a later date.
16.01.2022 Do you know anything about a fire at Cosgrove High School last night? Around 8pm Tasmania Police and Tasmania Fire Service responded to reports of a structure fire at Cosgrove High School. Upon arrival an area of the school was well alight and there was a large amount of smoke emanating from the structure. ... TFS brought the fire under control and it was contained to one building. However, there has been a substantial amount of damage caused to this section of the school. Police remain at the scene and investigations will be ongoing. 16.01.2022 Deliberate Fire St Helens District High School Kindergarten Tasmania Police is investigating the cause of a fire at the St Helens District High School Kindergarten which has resulted in the destruction of children’s play equipment and learning supplies. The fire was in an enclosed carport adjacent to the St Helens District High School Op Shop, Circassian Street, St Helens. Op Shop staff discovered the fire shortly after 1pm on Saturday the 7th November 2020 and alerted eme...rgency services. Prompt attendance by Tasmania Fire Service crews contained the fire to the carport storage area. An investigation has found the was deliberately lit. The value of property damaged as a result of the fire is estimated at $15,000. Investigations into the fire are continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact St Helens Police on 6387 5610. 11.01.2022 Did you see a crash on Wellington Street, Launceston, early this morning, or a white Nissan Patrol prior to the crash? Around 12:15am while conducting random breath tests on Wellington Street police stopped a white Nissan Patrol. The driver, a 24-year-old man from Invermay, completed a breath test before evading police and driving away at speed. The vehicle drove south on Wellington Street until it reached the intersection with Brisbane Street, Launceston. It is alleged the... vehicle entered the intersection, against a red light. As a result the vehicle crashed into a Black Mitsubishi Lancer, causing the Nissan to roll, coming to a rest on it’s side. The driver of the vehicle was apprehended by police and subsequently charged with numerous traffic offences including evade police (aggravated circumstances), exceed the prescribed alcohol limit and reckless driving. He was bailed to appear in the Launceston Court at a later date. Fortunately no one received any serious injuries as a result of the crash. Police would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the white Nissan Patrol prior to the crash. Any information can be provided to the Launceston Police Station on 6777 3945.

10.01.2022 Motorists are advised of a temporary road closure on the Tasman Highway at Targa to allow the safe removal of a truck trailer which is currently partially blocking the road. The affected area is just south of Corkery’s Road, with the highway expected to be closed for about an hour. Thanks for your patience and understanding everyone.
10.01.2022 Police are reminding people to be wary when shopping online after several Tasmanians have been scammed purchasing vehicles totalling over $100,000. Since October 10 Tasmanians have reported to police that they’ve been scammed after purchasing what they believed were legitimate vehicles advertised online, said Detective Sergeant Paul Turner. The majority of the scam vehicles were advertised on social media and online buy and sell platforms, often advertised for lower than ...its actual value. It’s timely to remind all Tasmanians to be wary for scams when shopping online - if something seems too good to be true or suspicious, it probably is, said Detective Sergeant Turner. If you are considering purchasing a vehicle advertised online and the seller claims you need to make online payment before you can inspect or physically take ownership of the vehicle stop immediately, it’s likely a scam. 10.01.2022 Tasmania’s search and rescue capability is expanding with additional police officers and flight paramedics trained for duties on-board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. Seven new crew members are in the final stage of their training to become part of the search and rescue team of police officers, paramedics and doctors that utilise the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, said Senior Constable Chris Williams from Police Marine and Rescue Services. Two police Constables (both men) will c...omplete training on 11 December, adding to the five additional intensive care flight paramedics (four men and one woman) who completed training recently. Next week all seven additional air crew members will have completed their rigorous training program, which included a ground and flying course, wilderness survival, and wire awareness, said Senior Constable Williams. Being part of the rescue helicopter crew is a challenging but rewarding and exciting role. The new members will increase the rescue crew to a total 13 Police, 12 Doctors and 15 Intensive Care Flight Paramedics on a roster system. Each of the additional member is highly-qualified and satisfied a long list of essential criteria to become rescue crew members. As summer commences, it is timely to remind anyone planning on exploring in Tasmania’s wilderness to be prepared. Before heading out into the wilderness, remember to register your personal locator beacon and carry it with you at all times, check the weather forecast, carry appropriate safety equipment and supplies and always advise someone of your travel plans and intended route.

08.01.2022 Police today have charged a 48-year old North Hobart man with carjacking and two counts of attempted carjacking following dangerous driving incident this morning on the Tasman Highway at Cambridge. At 7.05am, police received multiple calls in relation to a man in the northbound lanes of the Tasman Highway, just prior to the Cambridge turnoff, throwing rocks at vehicles and running in amongst the traffic. Police will allege that the offender collided with a number of vehicles ...during the incident. The offender was driving a blue Mazda he had forcibly taken control of from a female motorist after at least two previous attempts upon other motorists. A second vehicle also rolled at the scene, while trying to avoid the man and vehicles. The single occupant of this vehicle was taken to the RHH for assessment but released shortly after. The man will appear in an after-hours bedside court later today. Investigations are continuing into further offences relating to the incident. Tasmania Police would like to thank motorists for their patience this morning as emergency services attended to the scene, as well as the broader community for the valuable information provided to assist with the investigation. Motorists are advised that two east-bound lanes of the Tasman Bridge are currently blocked following a bicycle crash. One lane of traffic is still open east-bound but motorists are advised to expect delays until the scene is cleared. No details of injuries are known at this time.

06.01.2022 Glenorchy Police are reminding the community that all reports of anti-social behaviour are responded to, and offenders may face arrest, infringement notice with a fine, and exclusion periods. "In the lead up to the festive season, I'd like to reassure the community that police respond to all reports of anti-social behaviour," said Inspector John Ward. "I encourage everyone to consider their actions and the impact on others. ... "Anyone apprehended committed anti-social behaviour offences may be arrested or receive an infringement and exclusion periods." Reports of anti-social behaviour can be made to the non-emergency Police Assistance Line on 131 444. Recent hot spots include the Northgate Shopping precinct, the Glenorchy Bus Mall and the Glenorchy City Council grounds.
06.01.2022 Sadly a male pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on the Brooker Highway at Granton around 9.50pm last night. The man was walking south on the Brooker Highway when he was struck by a white 4x4 utility near the intersection of Black Snake Road. The driver of the utility was not physically injured.... 05.01.2022 **Update** Two people have been charged following a neighbour dispute at Middleton overnight. A 55-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman have been charged with Committing an act intended to cause Grievous Bodily Harm. They will appear in court at a later date.... _____________ Police are investigating a serious assault at a Middleton residence last night where a man was injured by a chainsaw. Around 10.20pm police were called to a dispute between neighbours on Wards Court. A woman and man had attended a neighbouring property, the woman allegedly crashed a vehicle into the neighbours shed, and the man allegedly injured the neighbour with a chainsaw. The 59-year-old male neighbour received significant wounds to his arms and was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition. A 52-year-old woman and 60-year-old man are in police custody assisting with enquiries. It is anticipated charges will be laid later today. Police remain at the scene in Wards Court where further physical examinations will be undertaken. Police would like to reassure the community this was an isolated incident linked to an ongoing dispute between people known to each other.

01.01.2022 Police are investigating an evade incident at Riverside this morning. Around 8:45am police were performing speed reduction on Muddy Creek Road a 70km speed zone at Legana. Police detected a green Holden Commodore Station wagon travelling in excess of 100km an hour in a southerly direction. Police attempted to intercept the vehicle but due to the manner of driving police disengaged due to public safety.... A short time later police observed the vehicle now travelling along the West Tamar Highway towards Riverside in the north bound lanes against the flow of traffic. Police subsequently lost sight of the vehicle, Inspector Darren Hopkins said. A short time later a member of the public phoned police stating that a green Holden Commodore station wagon had run off the road down an embankment on Cormiston Road after failing to negotiate a right-hand bend. The male driver is described aged in his 20s, with dark hair, dark track pants and not wearing a top and male passenger had blonde hair, a blue t shirt, and black trousers ran from the vehicle and ran through the properties jumping fences. A large number of police have attended the area and conducted a search in an attempt to locate the men. Police have deployed a drone to assist in locating the men. The vehicle was seized and will be forensically examined. Several items of interest were found in the vehicle that have given police a specific line of inquiry to follow to identify the driver and passenger. Police are requesting witnesses who may have seen the vehicle prior to the crash and the men after they fled the vehicle to come forward and speak to police.
