24.01.2022 Last term our school was very fortunate to receive a donation of 50 indigenous plants from the Bayside Climate Change Action Group (BCCAG) and Bayside Council. Mandy Coats from the BCCAG presented the plants to Principal Steve and several onsite learning students. The plants were cared for until the rest of the students returned to school in term four. Last week, our Grade 5D students enthusiastically planted the plants in the garden bed at the front of the school. ... The plants will help to increase the biodiversity of our school grounds. Mrs. Murray | Science Technician

23.01.2022 Prep student, Lulu, thought it would be a great idea last week to give the postman some lollies to say thank you for posting all the presents and letters from her Grandma. And it made the news ..... Australia Post shared the image to its Instagram page, thanking their workers for helping families keep in touch during COVID-19 and border closures. ... 'A sweet treat awaited one lucky #Postie this morning in Brighton from a very special customer who wanted to thank the local #Postie for delivering letters to a much-missed Grammie,' they wrote.

20.01.2022 This week in Art our Grade 3 students created oil pastel drawings. They were inspired by the picture storybook, Wilam: A Birrarung Story, that tells the Indigenous and geographical story of Melbourne’s beautiful Yarra River.

20.01.2022 Are you interested in enrolling your child at Brighton Primary School? Our 2021 Prep classes are already over 80% full, with limited spaces left across other grade levels. Despite social distancing practices temporarily preventing our school tours and open days, our student enrolment has been especially high this year. One parent with a grade 3 student at Brighton Primary School provided the following feedback in response to our remote learning program during term 2, 2020:... I think the school communications has been fantastic throughout remote learning. The communication has been very clear and helpful yet not too much information for everyone. I also think the teachers and their team members have done the most amazing job with remote learning. I have been super impressed by all the grade level teachers, the learning, professionalism and organisation. I also feel very privileged to have experienced this time with my son, to understand how he learns and how the school works. I now have a much greater appreciation for the teachers, teaching & learning and how my son learns. Something very precious to come out of these unprecedented times. We are very proud of our school community. Our students are active learners who learn to ask questions, research topics and express themselves. They learn to assess their own achievements and think about how to progress. They learn to take risks, learn from failure, and try again in a supportive and accepting learning community. It is our aim to help your child settle into our school community and build those skills, attitudes and values they will need to fully participate in the rich educational life of our school and beyond. For further information on our school and to download a copy of our enrolment form, please visit our website https://www.brighton.vic.edu.au/enrolment/ or email our Admissions Coordinator at [email protected]. We look forward to welcoming you to our school.

17.01.2022 After 8 weeks of home learning, we are really looking forward to seeing ALL our students back together on campus at Brighton Primary School this Tuesday. Some of our Grade 3 families are so excited to be returning, they produced a fun video for us all to enjoy!

16.01.2022 It was a very exciting morning for our community as teachers and students returned to onsite learning for Term 4.

14.01.2022 Today is Principal's Day and we would like to recognise the dedication and hard work of our Principal, Steve Meade. Steve took over the Principal role midway through last year and has then been faced with a year like no other. Steve's excellent communication, continued support and collaborative leadership style through the remote learning of 2020, has been valued by both parents and staff. Thank you Steve!

11.01.2022 In our latest newsletter (available under the Parents tab on our website), we shared how proud the Grade 1 teachers are of all the hard work their students have done during home learning and all the new skills they have learned. They showed creativity in being interactive learners and critical thinkers and resilience in adapting to 'the new norm'. Despite being in lockdown, Grade 1 took time to reflect on the things that have made them happy this term, including walking on ...the beach, playing with siblings and pets, learning to ride their bikes, spotting nature in our suburbs, dancing, cooking, watching sport, learning new skills and just spending time with family. We are so proud of how well ALL our students have managed during this difficult time and would like to thank both staff and parents who have done such an amazing job this term. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday. See more

11.01.2022 Book Week is a fun affair at BPS! Monday the whole school read a book simultaneously. Tuesday students enjoyed hearing from favourite author and illustrator Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton online with ABC education. Wednesday our Librarian, Mrs. Farfalla, bought to school a very special visitor’Koota the Groodle’, who just loves reading books with the kids. Thursday, for our Book Week grand finale, staff and students dressed as their favourite book characters.... A big thank you from staff and students to our Librarian, Mrs. Farfalla, for highlighting the fun of reading books with these wonderful Book Week activities.

08.01.2022 National Week of Deaf People: 19th - 25th September We have a well established Hearing Unit at Brighton Primary, which functions as an integral part of our school community, with specialised staff supporting students in fully accessing mainstream education. In the lead up to the National Week of Deaf People, the Hearing Unit prepared some activities for all the students of Brighton Primary to enjoy as part of the national celebration of the deaf Australian community. Butte...rflies are symbolic as they are sometimes considered to be deaf, so studies into the life cycle and habitat of the butterfly and mindfulness activities themed around butterflies made up some of the activities. Students also learned about deaf language and culture including studying various deaf artists and the inspirational, Dr Lisa Kauppinen, an advocate for equality and a UN Human Rights Prize winner. For more information on our Hearing Unit, please visit our website or call or email our school office. See more

07.01.2022 Last Friday our Preps celebrated their 100th day of school. They enjoyed dressing up to look like they were 100 years old and loved the messages of congratulations they received from the staff and school captains. Our wonderful Prep parents added to the celebrations with balloons and party food. It has been a very challenging year for our Preps and we are very proud of their resilience and the progress that they are making. We are looking forward to seeing them continue to develop their skills as the year progresses.

06.01.2022 The whole school took part in Wellbeing Wednesday last week. It was a chance to take a break from schoolwork, reconnect with family and friends and help to fill our own buckets. Everybody had a great day enjoying former parents' and entertainers, Carita and Hayden’s crazy activities, Yogabeans yoga sessions and activities that allowed everybody to get creative.

05.01.2022 As we find ourselves returning to remote learning, we would like to extend a thank you to everyone - staff, parents and carers, and students - for their hard work and support. The feedback from our last remote learning experience has been largely positive. "The communication and support offered by the school and teachers is commendable." "It is very comprehensive and I feel confident that the kids aren't missing out on any learning experiences."... While remote learning can be challenging, many parents mentioned the benefits of their children's new found independence, and of the opportunity to better understand how their children are learning at school. We thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us. We have used this information to inform many of our plans moving forward.

05.01.2022 Our Term 3 cohort of onsite learning students appeared in the Herald-Sun yesterday expressing how much they were looking forward to reuniting with their classmates this term.

04.01.2022 While our lovely students may not be at school currently, we are all still connected as part of our BPS community. Our students are being encouraged to make a "Spoonville" character to add to a collection at the front of the school on Wilson St. We hope this gives everyone a smile!
