25.01.2022 Corryong has just re-formed their Scout Group, now it's Tallangatta's turn. Scouts are open to youth from 5 to 18, and there are plenty of opportunities for Adults to assist as Uniformed Leaders, Adult Helpers and Rostered Parents. Scouting is fun, builds character, personal responsibility and community involvement.... If you are interested in having your child join, or even helping out yourself, please email me. Ian Hall, District Commissioner, Upper Murray District [email protected] And remember, Scouts is totally fee free until March 2021, so come along and 'try before you buy!'

25.01.2022 Soon, hopefully, we will once again be able to put the 'out' in Scout and get outdoors. This short video is about the Outdoor Adventure Skills badges. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAZUK9tKXtk

20.01.2022 It’s Official! Scouting Builds Resilience for Life. Resilience enables people to thrive and take on all that life has to offer, including the inevitable challenges. It’s about knowing our strengths and calling on them when needed. At Scouts, we empower young people to make decisions, take the lead and learn by doing. We give them a safe space where they can work with others to plan and embark on their own adventures, indoors and out. By building resilience in young people, we... are empowering them to be able to learn from their mistakes and to understand that failing is okay it’s an integral part of the learning journey. In 2019, Scouts Australia partnered with Resilient Youth Australia to explore the impact of Scouting on young Australians. Youth members across the country participated in the Resilience Survey, and after months of analysis, the results are in, and they show what we Scouts, parents and Leaders see every day as our youth members grow towards their potential. Check out the attached summary of the findings. You can now also JOIN FOR FREE until 31 March 2021. Now that we are setting up Scouts in Tallangatta what better time is for you to join? So why not give Scouting a try FEE FREE!! Contact us for more details. #BEASCOUT

19.01.2022 Scouting offers adults a host of rewarding opportunities to help make a difference in young people’s lives. You’re never too old to join the adventurous life of Scouting, even if you haven’t been involved before. Young adults, of 18 to 25, can also join Rovers for some amazing challenges and adventures. The personal satisfaction of helping young people to achieve their goals is immense, and your sense of personal achievement when you help them through a hurdle is nearly as st...rong as theirs! Where else can you take part in abseiling, rock climbing, scuba diving, and countless other adventurous activities with wonderful company and low costs? Scouting Leaders have incredible travel opportunities, interstate and overseas, to share discoveries with youth members. And you’re never alone, with thousands of fellow Leaders to turn to in a giant, supportive network of friends. Don’t let the kids have all the fun! Want to know more? 17.01.2022 Great news - as of today 1st Tallangatta Scout Group is once again part of Scouting in Victoria. Thankyou for your interest in re-forming the 1st Tallangatta Scout Group. The Group is now registered with Scouts Victoria (once again) and ready to recruit. Unlike an established Group, we are starting from scratch, which means we have quite a task ahead of us! Who’s up for the challenge to grow a Scout Group from nothing?... The good thing is that Scouting is fee-free until March 2021, which gives you all the perfect opportunity to try Scouting for free as we get the Group up and running. We have to get the youth members registered, identify Adult Leaders, Adult Helpers and Rostered Parents, get them all registered and trained as well. We will be supported by Leaders from Baranduda and Wodonga in the early stages and they will also act as mentors for new Leaders. So, straight up, we need a Joey Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Leader, a Scout Leader and a few Adult Helpers and Rostered Parents. It will challenge you, but you will have experiences like never before, and also lots of fun. Apparently you never really grow up when you are a Leader, according to my wife anyway! We also require good old committee members, just like any other club, so if you could spare time as Secretary, Treasurer, Group President or Committee Member, that would be very much appreciated. Unfortunately, the Tallangatta Scout Hall is another piece of local history, but I am working on an appropriate meeting place. As for a meeting night, being a small new Group it might be appropriate to meet on the same night for each section, Joeys, Cubs and Scouts, this would certainly make it easier for those who have to travel a fair distance to get to the meetings. All member registration is done online and kicks off with me sending you an invitation email with a link to Scouts Victoria registration in it. I just need a name, DOB, and email to commence that process. And remember, no fees, until March 2021, so what have you got to lose, lets get Scouting back to Tallangatta. Please do not hesitate to contact me, Ian Hall, District Commissioner Upper Murray, on [email protected]

17.01.2022 Check out the story on Scouting in the Northern Region of Victoria. Right now Scouting is free to join until 31 March 21 and we are in the process of starting a group in Tallangatta. Please let us know if you are interested in joining or have any questions. #BEASCOUT

14.01.2022 I'm thinking the Tallangatta Cubs of old were rather a tough bunch - would never see the words 'knock out' in anything Scouting these days!

11.01.2022 1st Tallangatta is now ready to accept registrations for the Scout Section (10.5 to 14y.o. girls and boys). We have a Scout Leader in training and access to a great hall for meetings. Unfortunately we have not been able to get Leaders for Joeys (5-7y.o.) and Cubs (8-10y.o.) so we cannot commence these sections at this time.... Remember, Scouting is fee-free until March 2021, so it's a great time to come along and try out. For more information, contact Ian Hall, Upper Murray District Commissioner, email [email protected]

11.01.2022 In 1927, Tallangatta Scout Group even had Rovers. Well dressed lot back then! Scouting has returned to Tallangatta, for more information contact Ian Hall [email protected]

10.01.2022 The Achievement Pathways are the core of the Scouting program. Virtually everything we do in Scouting from Joey Scouts to Rover Scouts is a part of our journey along the Achievement Pathways. While the achievement pathways are the same in all youth Sections, each Scout’s journey will be unique. (In the olden days we called it getting badges)!

10.01.2022 Ever wonder how long Scouting has been part of Tallangatta? We are reforming, we need leaders and helpers, as well as committee members. Let the history continue!

09.01.2022 52 years ago yesterday, a former Scout took those first steps on the Moon. Scouting prepares you for adventure!

08.01.2022 Becoming a Uniformed Leader Although becoming a Uniformed Leader may seem a long process, I can assure you that there is much fun to be had and friendships to be made along the way. The training pathway is almost identical for all sections along with some section-specific learning units. A Training Pathway sheet is attached for your information.... Initially, you will be interviewed by the Group Leader or District Commissioner as part of an initial competency check. By this time, you should have decided which section you wish to be a Leader in. From then on, the process is very online orientated. You will receive an email inviting you to commence the online application process. A reference check will be conducted, this involves your referees receiving an emailed survey to complete on your personal character and abilities. A Police check and working with children check will be conducted. You are also required to have a WWC Card registered in the State of Victoria. Once all successful checks have been completed, you will be ‘invested’ as a uniformed member of the Group and receive a Certificate of Adult Membership. At this stage, you will receive a logon for the Scouts Australia E-learning suite and commence your training as per the flowchart. The e-learning modules may seem daunting, but I’m sure you will find them interesting and informative, oh, and with the occasional pop quiz just to make sure you are paying attention! https://scoutsvictoria.com.au/age-sections-adults/training/

08.01.2022 Last night was the first meeting of the re-formed 1st Corryong Scout Group and we had a welcome message from Shane Jacobson, Chief Scout of Victoria. Now it's the turn of Tallangatta to get back to Scouting. The Group has been re-registered and a number of potential Joey scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts are waiting to be registered. Unfortunately we cannot start until we train up some Leaders, so, if you have a sense of humour, love the great outdoors and generally like having a bit of fun, you are just the people we need! Drop me a line. Ian Hall District Commissioner [email protected]

07.01.2022 Scouting is changing - Youth Leading, Adults Supporting.

06.01.2022 Scouting is changing, gone are some of the rigid activity badges, now we have Special Interest Areas (SIA's), to challenge youth from Cubs through to Rovers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jrs-7xISBc

05.01.2022 Would you like to volunteer in a uniform or non-uniform role? Adult Appointments Adults perform in uniformed and non-uniformed roles.... Uniformed Leaders undergo extensive training and are responsible for the day to day running of their section. If you do not have the time available to be a uniformed Leader, there are other roles where you can contribute, such as an Adult Helper or Rostered Parent Helper. Both roles require some online training and a current Working With Children card. Adult Helpers are non-uniformed Adult Members who regularly supervise and work in the youth sections and are regularly helping and supporting overnight activities such as sleep overs, Pack holidays, hikes and camps. Adult Helpers are invested as members of the Scout movement once an online application has been processed. At investiture, a Certificate of Adult Membership (CAM) and Group scarf are presented by the Group Leader, but Adult Helpers never wear a uniform and are not permitted to be involved in youth member activities unless they are under the guidance of a trained Leader holding a Certificate of Adult Leadership. Rostered Parent Helpers are Adult Supporters who are permitted to assist on an occasional basis at weekly Scouting activities, overnight camps or other overnight activities. They can participate more than two nights per term. Rostered Parent Helpers are not permitted to be involved in youth member activities unless they are under the guidance of a trained Leader holding a Certificate of Adult Leadership. Rostered Parent Helpers must never wear uniform but may wear the scarf if issued by their Group Leader. Rostered Parent Helpers may only be the parent or guardian of an under-18 youth member in the same Section they are helping in. They cannot be friends, acquaintances or other persons. People in this situation must be registered as an Adult Helper. https://scoutsvictoria.com.au/age-secti/adults-in-scouting/
