19.01.2022 Who remembers taking the car ferry over the Georges River to Lugarno from Illawong? 1st Wearne Bay Group's original meeting place in 1966 was the boatshed of the Lugarno ferry master. Urban legend has it that Scout meetings needed to be cancelled at high tide when water would come up through the floor boards.

We have an exciting journey... ahead of us and we cannot wait to see each of our youth members thrive in the New Youth Program! 10.01.2022 BRAVOOO to our Scouts who attended their first Camp (COVID style) for 2020! With COVID approved safety plans in place, a special overnight camp happened Friday night. I’m sure they will all sleep well tonight! In a year in which we have all faced many different challenges, it is important to acknowledge how adaptable many of our youth and Leaders have been. We are super thankful to Leaders Smithy and Turbo for supporting the Scouts to participate in a special overnight camp.
10.01.2022 It always seems impossible, until it’s done! HUGE effort on the weekend to clear out some of our out-buildings; lots of old, mouldy, dusty, and broken items we’ve accumulated over time! Many thanks to our Scouts, their parents and Leaders for showing up in the rain - and Parent Committee for organising another successful working bee!
09.01.2022 Today’s Leader has an article mentioning 1st Wearne Bay Sea Scouts and our successful NSW Government grant. We are thankful to Eleni Petinos for her support within our Miranda electorate. More than 40 community organisations in the Shire have had an early Christmas present with state government grants. We can’t wait to get started!
06.01.2022 Design it, build it, test it! In Scouts young people have the opportunity to try new things, learn whilst doing and have a whole lot of fun! Who wouldn’t want to know how to build a sling-shot or catapult?
06.01.2022 Two Awesome Reasons to use your Active Kids vouchers with Wearne Bay Sea Scouts: 1 Scouting builds resilience. According to a recent survey by Resilient Youth Australia, young people who attend Scouts report to have an overall better life satisfaction than their peers, and the longer they stay in Scouts the more resilient they are likely to become. 2 Scouting makes you healthier physically and mentally. The same survey found that young people who participate in Scouts ...report they have a healthy body than non-Scouts. Scouts also report to have a healthier mental state. Scouting is well-known for a variety of activities that get young people active and outdoors, including abseiling, hiking and kayaking. However, what is unique about Scouting is the positive impact it has on mental health by helping combat social isolation and support building social skills.
05.01.2022 It's R U OK Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Ask Are you OK?" on R U OK Day. Pick up the phone, send an email, message them start the conversation. Because that conversation could change a life. We can all reach out and provide support to our mates, loved ones, colleagues and neighbours going through a tough time. Do know what to say after R U OK? Keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK.... There's more to say after R U OK? Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before they're in crisis. Learn what to say next and help us move closer to our vision of a world where we're all connected and are protected from suicide. Head to www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask
04.01.2022 Don’t let a little bit of rain keep you away; we’ve got a list of ‘inside’ jobs to-do this morning if you want to keep dry!
03.01.2022 Tonight our Joeys and Cubs broke up into smaller Patrols to complete a socially distanced Emergencey Services Walk around our local area. They had written cards of thanks in previous weeks and tonight we were able to deliver them in person whilst completing activities along the route. First stop Police Dog Unit - NSW Police Force, then down the road to NSW Ambulance where we were able to quickly say hello, across the road to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 90 Menai where we were treated to the flashing lights on the truck, finally next door to NSW SES Sutherland Shire. We hope this small token will show our appreciation to our local first responders working hard to keep our community safe. Thank you!
02.01.2022 Big night with Leo saying goodbye to Joeys, ready for his next scouting adventure to start in Cubs! Congratulations on receiving your linking badge! 1-2-3 WOLF
