25.01.2022 Today is International Youth Day!! The theme for 2020 is Youth Engagement for Global Action, highlighting the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes. We are so proud of our youth program and our amazing youth members who through their volunteering enrich our local community. So today we recognise the contribution of our youth members and say thank you for your enthusiasm, your willingness to grow, your contribution to the AAC and your service to the community.

25.01.2022 2020 marks 75 years since the end of the Second World War. To commemorate it on social media, share your familys story with us, and well share it with Australia here. #OneInAMillion.

25.01.2022 Since attending our parade as Reviewing Officer in 2019, LTCOL Andrew White has had a very busy 2020, firstly providing leadership for Ex Bushfire Assist and now overseeing one of the NSW/VIC border crossings. We want to acknowledge the efforts of all the Lancers deployed to these important operations over the past six months. Great job.

25.01.2022 Good luck to the 5 NCOs from 203ACU commencing their Section Commanders Course this weekend at Holsworthy.

25.01.2022 Cadets are not the only ones to feel the effects of the COVID-19 suspension. The hard working volunteers at the Lancer Museum have had very restricted access to their vehicles over the past few months. If any former cadets are interested in helping to maintain and preserve the museums fleet of armoured vehicles, contact Ian Hawthorn on 0439 573 126.

25.01.2022 VALE - Peter Halloran Former members of 203ACU will have very fond memories of 'Harry' or 'Sergeant Halloran' who was a long-time supporter of our unit. Harry (seen on right of photo) spent 30 years in the Australian Army Reserve with the Lancers and retired a few years back. The Lancers provided him with a full honour guard at his funeral. Rest in peace Harry.

24.01.2022 Some interesting footage of Parramatta including Lancer Barracks and Cadets from The Kings School.

23.01.2022 Tomorrow is R U OK Day and it's more important this year than ever before. This year we're being encouraged to follow through when the answer is no.

22.01.2022 In solidarity, our friends and partners in the Middlesex and North West London Sector of the Army Cadet Force have this morning (Friday evening their time) conducted their own Driveway Vigil. #solidarity #AnzacCadet20 #LightUpTheDawn

21.01.2022 HANDS ACROSS THE COMMONWEALTH VIRTUAL CONCERT A couple of AACB-S members were fortunate enough to participate in the combined virtual concert band including 344 Musicians Flight AAFC (3 Wing Australian Air Force Cadets Band), Regimental Band, Black Watch ACF, British Columbia Cadets Honour Band. This virtual concert was brought to fruition in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, otherwise colloquially known as Victory in the Pacific Day (VP Day). ...We hope you enjoy our concert! https://youtu.be/HRcb08zc8nI 3 Wing Australian Air Force Cadets Regimental Band, Black Watch ACF British Columbia Cadets Australian Army Cadet Band-Sydney Army Cadets UK

19.01.2022 From this week, cadets will no longer be required to declare travel to Victoria. Instead they will be asked if they have recently travelled to South Australia in their health screening. Recent travel would be anything in the last two weeks.

19.01.2022 For those cadets who were fortunate enough to attend Ex Haig's Cadets in 2018, you will remember our visit to the Australian Memorial and Sir John Monash Centre at Villers-Bretonneaux in France. Yesterday COVID-19 claimed the life of Patrick Simon, the Mayor of V-B who kept alive the spirit of the ANZACs over many years, earning an honorary Order of Australia Medal. Rest in Peace.

18.01.2022 PREPARING FOR THE ANZAC DAY DRIVEWAY VIGIL With a little over 2 days to go until we commemorate Anzac Day 2020 in the most unique way, cadets are being asked to spend that time preparing their uniforms. Thanks to 49ACU Smithfield South Australia for these useful images.

18.01.2022 The Bicentenary of Lancer Barracks will be marked this weekend with a parade of the 1st/15th Royal NSW Lancers. Unfortunately this will be a closed event, however the City of Parramatta will be holding events online and at the Heritage Centre to mark this important milestone in the City's history.

17.01.2022 TODAY MARKS 75 YEARS SINCE THE END OF WORLD WAR II The ABC will televise the National Commemorative Service from the Australian War Memorial from 10am this morning.

16.01.2022 May 9 in Australia marks the 75th Anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe) and the beginning of the end of World War II. The war in Europe was a war against Germany, much like it was in World War I, however the allies had another war to fight in the Pacific against Japan. It wouldn't be until VP Day (August 15) that Australia could celebrate as the British did in May 1945.

16.01.2022 The outbreak of the coronavirus COVID-19 has impacted people in varying ways on an international scale. It is understandable that during times like this, people may be feeling afraid, worried, anxious and overwhelmed by the constantly changing alerts and media coverage regarding the spread of the virus. While it is important to stay informed, the following are some mental health and wellbeing tips and strategies to continue looking after ourselves and each other during these difficult times. https://kidshelpline.com.au/coronavirus

15.01.2022 Let us not remember 2020 as the year in which we forgot our Anzacs.

15.01.2022 1/20 PROMOTIONS COURSES CANCELLED In light of the requirement for ADF resources to be utilised in support of the current bushfire crisis, the COMD AAC has directed that the 1/20 Cadet Promotion Courses scheduled to be conducted next week at RAAF Richmond are to be cancelled. It is acknowledged that this will come as bad news to many however higher Defence requirements take priority.

13.01.2022 2019 Final Parade

13.01.2022 In 2018 cadets from 203ACU were privileged to have participated in the 11am service at Menin Gate to commemorate the Centenary of Armistice. On that day thousands of people lined the streets and town square of Ypres. Despite this being a Commonwealth shrine, and in light of the restrictions brought about by the continuing threat of COVID-19, the Prime Minister of Belgium stepped in this week to ensure this significant date did not go without proper observance. Lest we forget.

12.01.2022 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth has sent a message to the people of Australia as we, like the rest of the world battle Coronavirus.

12.01.2022 Following a series of bi-annual exchanges with Middlesex and North West London ACF, plans were underway for "Exercise ANZAC Cadets 20" to take place over this last fortnight - which would see Army Cadets from Australia, New Zealand Cadet Forces and the Army Cadets UK combine for a fortnight of activity ending with commemorative ceremonies marking the 75th Anniversary of VP Day. Instead, the cadets have managed to meet online for some catchups and also a VP Day challenge quiz.... Our cadets were also very fortunate that they could participate in the "Virtual AFX" conducted by the ACF. During the Virtual AFX a VIP meeting was held and we got to meet many of the sponsors/supporters of the ACF program. They had also invited CDRE Guy Holthouse AM, RAN - Defence Adviser and Head of Australian Defence Staff at Australian High Commission in the United Kingdom. #VirtualACF #KeepTheFlameAlive #CadetForceResilience #armycadets #acf #cadets #VirtualTraining #ExNewHorizon #ANZACCadet20 22 AAC Battalion - Sydney North 204 Army Cadet Unit, Parramatta/Dundas 206 Army Cadet Unit, North Sydney

12.01.2022 They went with songs to the battle, they were young Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe.... They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget "For the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon

10.01.2022 29 April is the 250th Anniversary of Cook's landing at Botany Bay. Unlike the 100th and 200th Anniversaries, COVID-19 will let the occasion go relatively unmarked. Cadets from 203ACU are currently completing a short quiz on the arrival of the Endeavour over the course of this week, as some questions involve a little research. This quiz also marks the resumption of training for cadets from home. It's time to innovate. (Photos credited to Peter Williams).

10.01.2022 For cadets at 203ACU, the parade night closest to 31 October has long been a night that we commemorate the last mounted cavalry charge in modern warfare. The Battle for Gaza-Beersheba earned the Royal NSW Lancer a Battle Honour for their role in support of the main assault. We know it as Beersheba Day, but owing to the time we lost due to COVID this year, we chose to continue with our training. Let us pause briefly today to reflect on those who rode fearlessly into near certain death and to their loyal mounts. https://www.awmlondon.gov.au/battles/beersheba

08.01.2022 It has been 87 years since the Australian Army's worst defeat. The Great Emu War.

07.01.2022 This year marked 200 years since Lancer Barracks was first used as a Military Depot. The unit that now calls the barracks home - the 1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers - had planned a grand celebration. This had to be scaled back due to COVID requirements. The video below is for all who could not be there. Thank you to CDTWO2 Ryan for representing 203ACU on this occasion - his speech can be viewed at 32m54s. https://youtu.be/U7wXlV1khg8

07.01.2022 The Royal Family have spent the day commemorating VP Day (VJ Day in Britain). The Princess Royal took the time to catch up with Veterans via a video call including an Australian.

07.01.2022 VALE - Lieutenant Colonel (AAC) Ian Cavanagh OAM Former cadets may remember LTCOL(AAC) Ian Cavanagh, particularly from courses and AFX. Sadly he has passed away today after a long illness. In recent years, Cav as he was affectionately known, was the Assistant Commander NSW 2nd Brigade until he stepped down last year. He is among the longest serving Officers of Cadets in the AAC, having racked up an impressive 60 years. On his Diamond Jubilee he was honoured with a Chief of Army Commendation. May he now rest in peace.

06.01.2022 In Flanders fields - John McCrae (18721918) ---------------------------------------------------------- In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky... The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. __________________________________ As the sun sets on an Anzac Day like none before, our thanks to all of our cadets who rose at dawn, paid their respects and kept alive the spirit of ANZAC. #AnzacDay2020 #WeWillRememberThem #LestWeForget

05.01.2022 SUSPENSION OF AUSTRALIAN ARMY CADET ACTIVITIES OUR CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITY 1. Direction. This ACKNOTE directs the suspension of Australian Army Cadet (AAC) activities, with caveats, to take affect at midnight (2359hrs) on 16 Mar 20. 2. Overview. Government and Defence have enacted a series of measures to reduce and slow the risk of Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading within the Australian Community. The AAC program is undertaken within the community and the Army and Comm...unity partnership is at its core. It has been assessed that, at this time, the greatest contribution the AAC can make to our Nation is to suspend all community-based and public cadet activities in order to assist in slowing the spread of COVID-19. This measure will assist in protecting both the wider community and those members of the AAC who are assessed as potentially vulnerable (ie. over 30% of AAC members are in the vulnerable category due to age or specific pre-existing medical conditions). 3. Suspensions. The following activities are suspended: a. All parade nights undertaken in Community Based Units. b. All weekend bivouac and overnight activities. c. All cadet activities undertaken within the community. This includes fund raising, sausage sizzles, and public recruiting activities. d. All ceremonial support activities undertaken within the community. This includes support to ANZAC Day activities. e. All cadet courses camps. f. All field exercises. This includes the National Adventure Training Award. g. All unnecessary AAC staff travel, visits, meetings and gatherings. 4. Caveats. The following activities may continue: a. Cadet activities conducted within School Based Units where the cadet activity is contained within the school and conducted as part of the normal school co-curricular activities. This only pertains to short-duration day activities within school grounds during the school week. This is to occur within the guidance of the State/Territory Education Departments or relevant Education Authority, ice Catholic Education system or specific school policy. b. Cadet activities conducted within Banksia Hill Detention Centre Cadet Unit. c. Adult Leader Development Courses will continue however attendees will be required to make health declarations prior to attending. 5. Timings. Key Timings are: a. Suspensions take effect at midnight (2359hrs) on 16 Mar 20. b. These suspension remain in force until 1 May, after which additional constraints may continue to be applied. 6. Conclusion. The AAC is core to the partnership between Army and the Australian Community. Suspending AAC activities at this time is seen as a positive step in supporting the Nation during a period when we all have a moral responsibility to reduce and slow the risk of COVID-19. See more

03.01.2022 RSL NSW has announced that all public Anzac Commemorations have been cancelled for 2020.

02.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who turned out today for a most memorable Final Parade for 2019. Enormous gratitude to LT(AAC) Russell Morrell and the Australian Army Cadet Band-Sydney for making the parade even more special.

01.01.2022 Today is Vietnam Veterans Day, the 54th Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan. We pay tribute to all who served in this conflict, many of whom were conscripted. As a tribute we share The Lancer Bands rendition of John Schumann's classic, "I was only 19" still the only song in popular culture to refer to cadets.

01.01.2022 On behalf of the entire 203ACU community and the broader Army Cadet family, good luck to all members who are about to undertake their final exams. This is merely a doorway you will pass through, it doesn't define the rest of your life.
