25.01.2022 We hear lots of stories about suspected preferential treatment given by the rental managers to their own investment units. We say suspected, because it is very difficult to prove and the rental managers are not interested in voluntarily opening up their rental books for review. And there is no regulatory authority interested in this. Some of these stories allege outright, blatant preference, ie first-referrals of the rental manager’s unit to all prospective holiday makers until 100% occupancy of their own unit is achieved. A UOAQ member recently shared with us another, more subtle practice employed by some rental managers. It does require them giving a little but they end up taking so much more.
