21.01.2022 When a call to fire is received at a Fire and Rescue NSW Communication Centre it is entered into our computer aided dispatch system, FireCAD. This system is us...ed to find the location of the incident, identify the nearest FRNSW resources and automatically alert the most appropriate resources so they can respond to the incident. The system can also identify and respond specialist resources such as rescue units, hazardous materials response units, aerial appliances or specialist officers. When the call-taker/dispatcher has selected the appropriate resources, the dispatch system automatically sends a message to the fire station giving details of the incident, rings the station bells to alert the firefighters, and can turn on the lights and open the station doors. When a fire engine crewed by retained firefighters is responded, FireCAD sends a dispatch message to the retained firefighters pagers alerting them to the call. If the firefighters are not at their station, for example if they are returning from a previous call, the Communication Centre will contact them by their vehicle-mounted mobile data terminal and radio.

20.01.2022 Our firefighters from across Region West have banded together to raise money to support the Jordan family by selling beanies in the lead up to the colder months. Bridie is the daughter of Damien Jordan, Deputy Captain at 300 Gilgandra station. Bridie was born with Sagittal Craniosynostosis. Her sagittal suture in her skull was fused at birth, preventing her head from growing width ways. This condition comes with a whole series of medical complications, and shes currently und...ergoing extensive treatment in Sydney, hundreds of kilometres from home. This fundraiser has been set up by firefighters in Region West Area Command, and is designed to help support the family, who have been forced to live away from home during Bridies treatment. In 2018, Damien Jordan was the highest individual fundraiser in the Firies Climb for Motor Neurone Disease. Its time for us to support Damien and his family during their time of need. To purchase your beanie, simply visit our website at https://beaniesforbridie.com.au/

14.01.2022 Have you ever wanted to see exactly what its like to fight a fire first hand? Well, thanks to Fire and Rescue NSW Station 83 Riverstone you can. Riverstone Fir...e Station were called to a kitchen fire on Wednesday, 9 September after a pot of oil caught alight. The kitchen was extensively damaged, however the owners of the home escaped with only minor injuries. Check out the below video to see a kitchen fire through the eyes of a firefighter. Kitchen fires are the leading cause of house fires in NSW and a hot oil fire can engulf a room in a matter of minutes. Never attempt to put out an oil fire using water. Use a fire blanket only if it is safe to do so. Act quickly. Get out. Stay Out. Call Triple Zero (000) and wait for firefighters to attend. You can prevent a kitchen fire from happening by never leaving cooking unattended. #PreparedForAnything #MoreThanFire

11.01.2022 It is unbelievable but true. While working to clear the road from a truck role over today we were stunned to see numerous drivers driving through the crash sit...e while videoing on their mobile phones. The police were not so amused and started pulling drivers over. We lost count of how many drivers were fined and they just kept on coming, they were soon in the double figures. Police issued $344 on the spot fine and they lost 5 demerit points. Please dont use you mobile phones while driving and please dont try to take photos and videos when driving through an emergency scene. The police might want to have a talk to you if you do.

11.01.2022 Dubbo firefighters have launched a homemade campaign a warning not to leave your kitchen unattended.

06.01.2022 On this day last year NSW recorded 17 concurrent Emergency Warnings. Communities in the Blue Mountains, Clarence Valley, Richmond Valley, Walcha, Armidale, Namb...ucca, Kempsey, Tenterfield, and the Mid Coast were all being impacted by fire. At 6pm 94 fires were burning across the state. While the losses on that day were significant they could have been far worse were it not for the extraordinary efforts of firefighters and community members. See more

05.01.2022 Solar panels are a very popular addition to homes, however fires involving solar panels have increased dramatically- almost 80% in the last five years. Solar pa...nels were found to be the cause of four fires in the last week alone and are up more than 20% from this time last year, with solar isolation switches causing almost half of all solar panel-related fires. NSW residents can play their part in ensuring solar panels are as safe as possible by making sure their solar panel system complies with Australian standards and using a qualified installer. Its always a good idea to do a license check with NSW Fair Trading before any work takes place. Remember, calling Triple Zero (000) for a fire emergency can be the difference between life and death, or a building or other property being saved or destroyed. For more information on solar panel safety, visit the Fair Trading website here: https://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au//during-th/solar-panels

04.01.2022 COVID - 19 UPDATE There are a few changes that have taken place with the way Fire and Rescue NSW operates that you notice. We hope you understand and can help u...s through the next few weeks. Some if the changes include: We are cancelling all non essential community engagements so we wont be able to visit your school or childcare centre to pass on fire safety messages for a while. If you visit a fire station for any non life threatening issues we are not going to be able to let you in. You may notice fire trucks at emergencies with fire fighters sitting inside. We are minimising the amount of fire fighters contact with the community. If you see us sitting in our fire trucks and not getting out this is not us being rude. Feel free to give us a way from a distance well still wave back. We wont be able to show your kids our fire truck and let them sit in it for a while. And unfortunatly we wont be able to shake you hands for a while. Behind the scenes we are doing a lot of hard work to continously decontaminate our trucks, uniforms and fire stations to ensure us and our community are protected. Thanks for the support we could not do this without everyones support. #covid-19
