17.01.2022 Two new cases of coronavirus have been reported in New South Wales in the last 24 hours, both returned travellers in hotel quarantine. For the fourth day in a row, NSW has not reported a single locally acquired case of COVID-19. The state tested 6381 people in the last 24 hours, a slight increase since yesterday.... NSW Health's Dr Jeremy McAnulty said although the state has seen consecutive days without any local cases of coronavirus, everyone must remain vigilant and continue safe practices. "While it is great news and we really thank everyone who's doing their part to get tested, the testing numbers need to be higher," Dr McAnulty said.

17.01.2022 New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she is open to the prospect of an international travel bubble between her state and New Zealand. Ms Berejiklian said she would be "happy to have formal conversations" with the New Zealand Prime Minister about establishing a travel bubble in the coming months. "I'd be happy to be the first state that welcomes Kiwis," she told Today.... "NSW is saying to every part of Australia, except for Victoria, and understandably, to WA, to Queensland, South Australia, 'you are welcome to NSW'. "We believe our system is resilient enough. If we are saying that to other states and New Zealand is about the same situation, I think it is important for us to consider those opportunities. I would also hope that it's reciprocal." Ms Berejklian said while she would be willing to consider the possibility of an international travel bubble, lifting hotel quarantine requirements for returned travellers was not a possibility for the state. "I wouldn't feel comfortable not having them quarantine in hotels at this stage, because the number of cases is still quite high," she said.

17.01.2022 Acting Deputy Premier of NSW, The Hon. Paul Toole MP joined Pecky on the show this morning to remind everyone to drive carefully this long weekend to avoid double demerits points.

16.01.2022 New South Wales has gone almost a week without any new cases of coronavirus being detected in the community. The state recorded three new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday, two of whom were returned overseas travellers in hotel quarantine. The third case is a man in his 50s from south-western Sydney, but it's believed to be an old case who was found to have some traces still in their system.... He has returned repeated negative test swabs with serology results showing he had developed immunity to the virus. Health authorities believe the man contracted COVID-19 when it was circulating at low levels in south-western Sydney in July. As the case was not previously diagnosed, it has been added to the total coronavirus tally for the state. However, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the case demonstrated that cases of coronavirus in the community were being missed as she urged vigilance and for anyone with symptoms to get tested. "It's really important that we don't let down our guard, that we keep our distance, that we have hand hygiene and that importantly we have our masks in some settings," she said. Today's figures come after four new cases were reported yesterday and just two on Tuesday - all returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

People will now be able to have private gatherings of up to 50 people - up from 20 - just in time for Christmas.... So work Christmas parties could move outdoors. More patrons will also be allowed inside pubs, restaurants and cafes. Indoor venues of up to 200 square metres will now able to apply the two square metre rule without a cap opposed to the four square metre rule previously in place. Today marks the 20th consecutive day without any community transmission of the virus in the state. There were 14,758 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with a similar figure of 14,885 in the previous 24 hours.... 07.01.2022 A trans-Tasman travel bubble agreement was reached today during discussions with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said "This will allow New Zealanders and other residents in New Zealand who have not been in an area designated as a COVID-19 hot spot in New Zealand in the preceding 14 days to travel quarantine free to Australia." Mr McCormack said the plan would be carried out in a staged approach.... Under stage one, New Zealanders can travel to NSW and the Northern Territory from Friday 16 October. Mr McCormack said the Department of Health has undertaken a public health risk assessment which indicated New Zealand posed a low risk of COVID-19 transmission to Australia. "We want to open up Australia to the world. This is the first part of it," he said. "We want to make sure that we get as many Australians home, we want to make sure that we get as many visitors." He said the Australian government will provide increased Australian Border Force at airports to help collect passenger contact tracing information as required. Mr McCormack said the travel bubble as it stands only includes New Zealand, but other countries could be included. Asked when New Zealand might allow Australians to visit, Mr McCormack said that decision was up to the New Zealand government. "We want to make sure that there is two-way travel, and that would be something that I will leave to those negotiations between the two Prime Ministers."

06.01.2022 Western Australia will officially reopen its borders to New South Wales and Victoria in time for Christmas, more than eight months after it was slammed shut. Premier Mark McGowan announced on Tuesday that residents in the two states will be allowed into WA - quarantine free - from 12.01am on Tuesday, December 8. Travellers will, however, still be required to undergo health screening and a temperature check at the airport, complete a G2G pass outlining recent travel and take a... COVID-19 test if necessary. The decision, which will bring the restrictions in line with Tasmania, Queensland, the ACT and the Northern Territory, was made after updated health advice was issued by Chief Health Officer Andy Robertson. The border move comes after Victoria marked 28 days without community transmission and NSW went 24 days without a locally-acquired infection.

05.01.2022 NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian was surprised to learn this morning the Queensland border could reopen on November 1. Her Queensland counterpart Annastacia Palaszczuk announced today she would lift restrictions if NSW does not record any cases of community transmission for 28 days. When asked about it this morning Ms Berejiklian said, "that's the first I've heard of it."... However, the journalist who asked the question did not mention the 28-day caveat. "I would welcome that with open arms, if that is the case, I'm ecstatic about that. "I would have hoped it would happen sooner, but I can live with the 1st of November because it gives hope to our local residents. "But please know that I'm only taking your word for it, I've had no contact whatsoever with the government up there, so I don't know apart from what you've just told me."

05.01.2022 NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced a "major easing" of coronavirus restrictions on the 25th day without any local cases in the state. Caps on the number of people allowed at hospitality venues will be lifted, and there is no limit to the number of people allowed at weddings or funerals. The four-square-metre rule will become the two-square-metre rule on Monday 7 December, except for gyms and nightclubs.... Up to 100 people can attend an outdoor event such as a large family picnic. Up to 50 people are allowed on a dancefloor at one time and at weddings this does not have to be the same 50 people, just that number at one time. "Last year bushfires robbed us of Christmas, today's announcement means COVID is not going to rob us of Christmas," NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro said today. He said the government was able to lift restrictions in time for the end of the year because of the community coming together and following the rules. Ms Berejiklian said despite the good news, health precautions like social distancing, good hygiene and testing must continue.
