03.01.2022 UPDATE - WATER BOMBERS AT WORK @12.10pm: From District Assistant Gerard James: "So it's about a 100 hectares, or 2,500 acres. We had about 10 appliances there last night with probably 30 crew members. Now we've got another 8 appliances out there today with another 30 crew members. We've got the RJ80 from up at Richmond, which is a medium large air tanker and he's been working on the eastern flank dropping retardant. He's got another plane working with him called the Bird Dog... which flies him in and gets him on line. We've also got a medium size helicopter bucketing water onto those big trees that are on fire and a small air tractor which is what operates out of the local airport to work on the flanks as well. So we've got 4 aircraft in the air. "We've got two road graders working around it, putting a perimeter right around the whole fighter. Plus an excavator knocking over some of those big dangerous trees because especially down against the river, we can't afford to spread over the river, that Bullatalle side. It's all that cropping out there in the bush it would just burn for weeks. So we're really trying to keep it this side of the river." BUSHFIRE @7am : Local RFS brigades were called to the location 10 kilometres south of Deniliquin along the Cobb Highway at around midnight, with the fire out of control and in danger of spreading. The fire has burnt around 1000 hectares and was caused by a fallen power pole. As of the last half hour, crews have managed to get the fire under control, however it is still burning. A crew change-over occurred 10 minutes ago, with firefighters expected to monitor the fire into today and create protective measures. Well done to all our firies!
