20.01.2022 Yesterday the battalion had the honour of saying farewell to outgoing 1st Division Commander Major General P.D McLachlan, AM, AO, DSC. At one of his last official visits, the commander spoke of the determination and initiative the battalion had displayed in its evolution under his command into a world class pre-landing force, and how he was proud of where it stood today. The CO thanked the commander for the strong leadership he had displayed in engaging the unit in overseas c...ommitments and developing new capabilities. The battalion presented to the commander a custom made 2RAR (Amphib) paddle as part of a newly formed tradition. Every paddle is made different and with the recipient in mind. A representative of every rank in the Battalion spoke of what it meant to them before passing on to the CO and then the Major General himself. The Battalion wishes the outgoing commander all the best in his post military life. Australian Army Forces Command - Australian Army #InnovativeAgileLethal #SecondtoNone #AustralianArmy #Amphib

18.01.2022 Townsville recently saw its worst flood event since the January 1998 floods. The city received over a years worth of rain in less than a week, resulting in nearly one quarter of the city being flooded. While not the operating environment or task we train for, the proficiency, equipment and experience of the unit developed in recent years formed an integral part of the evacuation efforts. Our Small Boat Platoons evacuated over 400 individuals on the night of the 3rd February ...2019. Our focus now shifts to assisting in the recovery from this natural disaster, the wellbeing of our families and our community. Whether it be on operations overseas or in our own backyard, were honoured to have the privilege to be serving the nation.

04.01.2022 Last week, a party from 2RAR (Amphib) flew down to Canberra to attend the Royal Australian Regiments 70th Birthday celebration. This involved all 9 colours of the RAR coming out on display during an extremely cold and windy parade, with a speech by the Governor General himself commemorating the role the Royal Australian Regiment has played since its inception in Japan as part of the British Commonwealth Occupational Force. After the parade, during the Last Post Ceremony, a r...eading was given by a Corporal from 2RAR (Amphib). The reading paid respects to a fallen soldier from 2RAR, Temporary Corporal Kevin Joseph Cooper, who gave his life at the battle of the Samichon after serving with 1, 2 and 3RAR. He was just 21 years old. A reception was then held inside the War Memorial where the Chief of Army presented Corporal Liam Kiernan with the Hassett Award for best junior leader within Army. CPL Kiernan has proven himself to be an invaluable member within garrison, competition, field and deployment and his consistency has proven to the Regiment that he himself is Second to None. Once the formalities were complete the three northern battalions then departed aboard a RAAF C-17 back to Townsville. 2RAR would like to pay its compliments to the RAR, its heartfelt congratulations to CPL Liam Kiernan and its utmost respect to Temporary Corporal Kevin J Cooper.
