24.01.2022 The great desert skink, also known commonly as Kintore's egernia, is a species of skink, a lizard in the family Scincidae. The species is endemic to the western half of Australia. It is a burrowing lizard and extremely social. This little girl is on the endangered list

23.01.2022 UP CLOSE WITH A TASMANIAN TIGER SNAKE + BEHIND THE SCENES FOOTAGE (WATCH WITH VOLUME) Tiger Snakes (Notechis scutatus) are one of Australia’s highly venomous sp...ecies of snake. Until the invention of tiger snake antivenom in 1930, they used to be the species that accounted for the most snake bite fatalities in Australia; largely due to their abundance in areas of early settlement and poor snakebite management. With such a long history of conflict between tiger snakes and early Australian settlers, tiger snakes have long been vilified as aggressive and evil animals that will attack without provication. To this day, the perception of tiger snakes amongst the general public is extremely distorted due to the amount of people that fear and misunderstand these snakes, simply because they don’t know enough about them. Hopefully, after watching this footage you will see a different side to these beautiful snakes. I encountered this individual along with 7 others while hiking the Overland Track in Tasmania in November. As you can see, this tiger snake was quite a relaxed individual, opting to hold its ground in a defensive posture while observing me as much as I was observing it. The snakes calm disposition allowed me to work in close proximity to it without provoking too much defensive behaviour. As expected, most of the other tigers I encountered on the hike disappeared into cover at the first sight of me, while one relied on crypsis (remaining still to avoid detection); None advanced towards me or became overly defensive. TIGER SNAKE BEHAVIOUR While some individuals can (and do) resort to assertive defensive behaviour when harassed or approached too closely, most are quick to flee to avoid encounters with humans, similar to most wild animals. When a tiger snake is approached and it becomes defensive (rearing up, flattening out, mock striking and advancing toward the threat) it is mostly bluff behaviour designed to warn off perceived predators. In this case, removing yourself from the snake's proximity (as quickly or as slowly as you see fit) is always the best and safest outcome. If it is too late and the snake is moving past you in very close proximity (less than 1m) then it is best to remain completely still to avoid provoking a defensive reaction from the snake. DISCLAIMER: Do not get this close to venomous snakes without the appropriate training and experience
