25.01.2022 "Most years we will only get three or four opportunities to fire the javelin. We’ve been pretty lucky and have fired about ten this year but a lot of guys who may be ten years into their career may have only fired one once." Corporal Thomas Meloury-Jones, a rifleman with 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment's anti-armour platoon knows the thrill of firing the javelin weapon system and it's an experience his team savoured during the final live fire attack of Exercise B...rolga Run. "Coming off Brolga Run the guys were really keen to shoot the javelin live. We don’t get to fire the javelin much so we were really looking forward to it," CPL Meloury-Jones said. The Javelin Weapon System is used by the Australian Army to engage and destroy enemy armour at ranges beyond what is achievable with previous shoulder-fired anti-armour systems. It has an effective range of 2000 metres - and takes just 14 seconds to cover that distance!

05.01.2022 While 3 Brigade training activities changed during the peak of COVID-19 restrictions, 3rd Combat Signal Regiment's Operational Support Squadron took the opportunity to get creative and improve capability with their equipment. The fuel storage system used in Army’s 16kVA generators has previously consisted of a 200 litre drum strapped to the back of the generator, which has contributed to fuel contamination and refuelling issues. 3 CSR Tech Elec, Craftsman Daniel Moon, works w...ith the squadron’s generators and developed the idea for a new, purpose-built tank while preparing for his SUB 4 Corporal course during the pandemic. On SUB 4 for RAEME, you need to develop an Engineering Change Process (ECP), which is where you are tasked to come up with an idea to better a piece for equipment for Army, CFN Moon said. Usually these are just kept at the theoretical level, but our ASM liked the idea for the fuel storage system so much that he asked me to build a prototype and from there it just carried on. There have been some changes to the design from that first prototype, but the current design eliminates all of the hazards we identified with the original system. 3 CSR Technical Support Troop Commander, LT Matthew Eden, said the improved capability brought immediate benefits to his team during Exercise Brolga Run 2020. When we originally deployed we weren’t able to send our fuel truck out, which meant we weren’t able to affect our own resupply internally and had to come up with some creative logistics solutions, LT Eden said. The additional capacity we had in the new fuel tank as the result of CFN Moon’s creation meant we were able to provide fuel for a longer period of time than we were originally able and enabled us to still provide the effect that we needed. While the idea began in the workshop, it is now being considered as a fleet-wide solution to improve generator capacity across Army and CFN Moon said the support of his team and leadership were the catalyst behind bringing his idea to the masses. It has gone from just an idea in the workshop, to our ASM, who liked the idea and showed it to CO. The CO liked the idea so he showed it to the Brigade COMD. During that process CASG picked up on it through the RODUM Process and asked for the designs they’re looking to make another 100-150 to roll out Army wide if it’s successful. To me it was just something I did for SUB 4, but to everyone else it’s more than that. So it’s kind of weird and humbling for me.

05.01.2022 They've got our back. Not only does Exercise Brolga Run put our combined arms combat teams through their paces, it also exercises support from our communications and logistics units. In early August, a Combat Service Support Team from the 3rd Combat Service Support Battalion - Australian Army deployed on Ex Brolga Run 2020, giving our Australian Army logistics soldiers and officers the chance to test concepts of logistic support, communication, camouflage and defence in the f...ield environment. #alwaysready #goodsoldiering Forces Command - Australian Army
