23.01.2022 It's been a very busy afternoon for Fire and Rescue, following the heavy storm activity that went through the Springwood/Winmalee/Faulconbridge area. We have had firefighters attending storm damage, trees down and powerlines down incidents, with both of our pumpers and the Tanker being joined by FRNSW crews from as far away as Regentville. Power is still out in several areas, with Endeavour Energy crews at work to get the power back on. You can check estimated restoration tim...es here: https://www.endeavourenergy.com.au If you see a dangerous unattended storm damage incident, call 000. For non life-threatening incidents, contact the SES on 132500.

23.01.2022 Fire and Rescue's latest graduates aren't quite what you'd expect!

23.01.2022 Welcome new recruits.

22.01.2022 Shout out to all the truckies keeping Australia going, like they say, without trucks, Australia stops, Thankyou for keeping stock coming into the shops etc, please all of us remember, they have families, mortgages, outgoings, they have deadlines, and cop grief from bosses, when are you getting here ? , etc, please dont jump in front of them as they come up to a set of lights, they are seriously heavy, and they are just trying to drive safely around us all, Thank goodness for our truckies

22.01.2022 Members of D Platoon received their Premiers Bushfire Citations for the 2019/20 bushfires from Inspector Cameron today. It is an acknowledgement of the hard work put in by crews during the last season. 19.01.2022 A blast from the past. 20 years ago today, the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games commenced. Fire and Rescue NSW (then called the NSW Fire Brigades) had an extensive commitment, with numerous temporary fire stations located across the Olympic venues. Due to space limits and large crowds, some locations had mini golf-kart style fire engines for a quick response whilst awaiting the full-size fire engines to arrive!... #Sydney2000 #preparedforanything

19.01.2022 A harrowing and emotional story from the mum of one of the trapped firefighters in the Fire and Rescue strike team which was overrun by bushfire near Nowra a couple of weeks ago. The vehicle was destroyed, but the crew all made it back safely. They displayed courage and composure in an extremely dangerous situation. Well done Terrigal Fire Station. 18.01.2022 The Sydney Morning Herald's Nick Moir has won the 2020 Nikon-Walkley photography award for his coverage of the 2019/20 bushfire emergency. Some amazing images of the terrible season we went through last summer.

14.01.2022 A great video from the Australian Academy of Science explaining the facts surrounding Hazard Reduction (HR) burning, and also the differences between "HR" and "backburning".

13.01.2022 Today D platoon completed Compartment Fire Behaviour Training (CFBT) at the Londonderry training facility. CFBT involves being able to observe and fight live fires in a controlled environment. The fire, heat, humidity and conditions are as real as it can get. In scenario one, Station Officer Kinder and Senior Firefighter Stevenson were tasked for search and rescue in a three bedroom house. Two victims (life size dummies) were located and removed. ... In scenario two, Senior Firefighters Kelly and Olmo were the fire attack team in a two level industrial unit. The fire was extinguished and two victims located and rescued. Training such as this keeps us sharp. It was an enjoyable day of learning and maintaining our skills.

13.01.2022 WARNING: Confronting road safety video As Christmas approaches after a horror year, many of us will be driving long distances, attending gatherings, dealing with unfamiliar roads and wanting to arrive on time. This video from the Victorian Transport Accident Commission is a powerful reminder to please drive safely this Christmas, for the sake of your family and others on the roads. Let's not meet by accident.

09.01.2022 A little Video from the Retained staff at 445 Springwood that shows a bit of the life of an On call Firefighter, some equipment and History

08.01.2022 Great work Jodie #preparedforanything

08.01.2022 Firefighter Col loves everyone! Unfortunately, unless you are dressed like this, he can't really make good on his wish! So there are a few changes that have taken place with the way Fire and Rescue NSW Firefighters operate that you may notice. We hope you understand and can help us through the next few weeks. Some of the changes include:... We are cancelling all non essential community engagements so we won't be able to visit your school or childcare centre to pass on fire safety messages for a while. If you visit a fire station for any non life threatening issues we are not going to be able to let you in. You may notice fire trucks at emergencies with fire fighters sitting inside. We are minimising the amount of fire fighters contact. If you see us sitting in our fire trucks and not getting out this is not us being rude. Feel free to give us a wave from a distance as we'll be more than happy to wave back. We won't be able to show your kids our fire truck and let them sit in it for a while. And unfortunately we won't be able to shake your hands (or give you a hug ) for a while. Behind the scenes we are doing a lot of hard work to continuously decontaminate our trucks, uniforms and fire stations to ensure us and our community are protected. It will still be business as usual for our firefighters, as we are prepared for anything. Thanks for the understanding, we could not do this without everyone's support. #preparedforanything #FRNSW

Booster systems are used to supply higher pressures and volumes of water to hydrants and sprinklers in larger premises such as schools, nursing homes, shopping centres and factories. The crews travelled to St Columbas and St Thomas Aquinas schools as well as Buckland Nursing home to familiarise ourselves on the individual systems operations. ... #preparedforanything

05.01.2022 With the Bin Isolation Outing page going viral on Facebook, D Platoon couldnt help but get involved! Remember. Just because were social distancing and self isolating doesnt mean we cant be socially connected and have a laugh. Stay safe everyone

04.01.2022 Fires can easily start in your clothes dryer, as the cooler months arrive, its important to clean out the lint filter on your clothes dryer, after every time you use it. #learndontburn #ringtriple0foremergencies #preparedforanything #ifindoubtcallusout

02.01.2022 Please help keep us safe. A reminder that it's a legal requirement to slow down to 40km/h when passing an emergency vehicle with its lights flashing. This rule applies almost everywhere in the Blue Mountains, including on the Highway (unless you're travelling in the opposite direction where there is a median strip).

01.01.2022 The crew from Springwood spent today at the Fire and Rescue NSW Emergency Services Academy, completing their tri-annual rescue recertification. Firefighters completed a 2-car motor vehicle extrication scenario, plus a vertical rescue from the 4-story lift shaft prop, using some cordage (rope) systems. The FRNSW Academy consists of a number of complex training props, including simulated gas fire props, Urban Search and Rescue (USAR), confined space, motor vehicle accident scen...es and multi-story buildings with high-temperature heating systems. #MoreThanFire #PreparedForAnything
