02.01.2022 . Please vote for Jenny and share this post. : https://bit.ly/2Q5sVmO #westfieldlocalheroes... Jenny Sammut’s children have long moved on from the Kogarah RSL Youth Club, but she continues to volunteer as president, a role she took on 25 years ago. Jenny is on hand every afternoon and evening during the week and every Saturday morning to support the 100 members, who range in age from three to 25. ‘It is so rewarding to go into the club and be greeted by so many happy children who are having a great time learning and growing in a safe and happy environment, says Jenny. Thanks to its modest fees, the club enables families on low incomes to access programs they may not otherwise be able to afford. The primary focus is to teach children about health and fitness and to help them develop self-esteem. One of Jenny’s passions is to include special needs children into her programs. At present, Jenny has a squad of five special needs children who are of secondary school age. They have all been under Jenny’;s tutelage since they were much younger. ‘I keep on doing my work at the youth club because I find it very fulfilling to see our young people grow and reach their potential, whatever it may be,’ says Jenny. Jenny is a finalist for Hurstville Westfield. Three of the Hurstville finalists will each be awarded a $10,000 grant for their affiliated organisation. If Jenny is successful, the Kogarah RSL Youth Club will use its grant to buy equipment and train coaches.
