25.01.2022 We have some chorizos in the freezer here which are one of my favourites, so I thought I would share my absolute favourite summertime dinner. Its cheap, simple to make and can keep in the fridge for a couple of days. In the grill, cook up 2 chorizos, and 2 cobs of corn. Pop some sweet potato in the oven and boil some eggs. Combine cherry tomatoes, avocado, red onion, feta cheese (If desired) and baby spinach leaves. Once the cooked ingredients are cooked, mix them all together and serve warm. Most of these ingredients we have had in at 4life care at various times, so feel free to pop in and have a look!

21.01.2022 Since we have started putting recipes on our page, we have noticed our clients coming in with their own. Please keep it up, we love learning new recipes too! We got a heap of chickpeas in today, which reminded me that a client had given us her recipe for hummus. I searched for the recipe and couldn't find it. Luckily she came in today and was kind enough to write it out for me!... 1 can chickpeas 1/2 cup olive oil 1/4 teaspoon cumin 1 small clove garlic 1/4 cup Water (approx) 1 tbsp Tahini Juice of 1 lemon Blend all ingredients except the water. Slowly add in water until it reaches the desired consistency. The client swears that it can be frozen, but I cant imagine it lasting that long in my house!

18.01.2022 Christmas is a wonderful time of year for kids. The kids wake up to see if Santa has remembered them, excited about what they will find. A lot of my happiest memories are around Christmas, catching up with cousins and uncles and aunties and the chaos that a large extended family brings with it. However, as a child, you don't realise the strain it can put on the adults. Sometimes it can be hard to get by, let alone with the added pressure that Christmas can bring.... With this in mind, we have a few beautiful things in our shop at the moment that could help ease that pressure. Feel free to stop by, have a look around and see if there is anything that would make your loved ones smile. And most importantly, Christmas is supposed to be a fun time and a happy time. We have been providing food for the fire fighters and those in evacuation centres. Groceries and other items as needed. If you know someone who has lost everything, needs food or clothing please give us a call. Our great volunteers are here to help, we are the silent workers behind the scenes in our communities.... 06.01.2022 FAMILY FRIENDLY MEAL IDEAS! Hoisin and ginger fish with Coconut Rice with simple salsa . 2 x large servings or 4 x small Total cost $8.70... This is a really simple and cheap idea that tastes lovely. Ingredients. 2 cups white rice $1.40 per kilo 2 tins coconut milk $2.80 for both 1 cups water - Salt $2.00 per container Tomato - Free from pantry Cucumber - Free from pantry Tinned pineapple $1.00 per tin Juice of half a lemon - Free from pantry Oregano $1.50 per jar Birdseye hoisin ginger fillets - Free from pantry Cook rice in water and coconut milk, with a pinch of salt until tender, stirring occasionally. While rice is cooking, dice tomato and cucumber, add pineapple and dress with lemon and oregano. Steam Birdseye hoisin and ginger fish fillets in microwave, following directions on package. Assemble meal and eat! *Ingredients subject to what we have in stock

06.01.2022 THANKYOU Thankyou We now have a Ford Transit refrigerated van which we purchased with a grant received from 2019 Rural Feed Appeal. This van is a great help when delivering food hampers which can be ordered on-line through our web site. We are also running our Food Rescue program using the van keeping food as safe and fresh as possible for our clients.... We will soon have signage on van completed watch for us around town. Thank you to all those who make grants possible and available to charities who support their communities helping families in need.

04.01.2022 We have a lot of potatoes in at the moment, a couple of leeks along with meat packs available. With this in mind, I thought I would share a recipe for a leek and potato soup with bacon bits. It really is simple. Pop 2 leeks, a kilo of potatoes into a slow cooker with a litre of chicken stock, salt and pepper and thyme. At the end of the day, add a cup of cream and pop the lot in the blender.... Add some crispy cooked bacon pieces for texture and flavour and you are done! A simple and cheap meal for 4. See more
