23.01.2022 OMG look what happened yesterday, we are all so excited. The children have been spending a lot of time during the day watching the caterpillars and flipping through the books. We are all getting familiar with the language surrounding the butterfly life cycle like egg, caterpillar, pupa, chrysalis etc it is fabulous to see the children’s vocabulary expanding and their knowledge growing too. Watch this space for the next stage @kool_kids_the_commons #koolkidsthecommons #koolkidsontheblock #naturediscovery #lifecycles #earlychildhoodeducator #learningthroughplay #playbasedlearning #wildchild #tweedheads #naturekids #casuarina #enquirybasedlearning
22.01.2022 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas today we went to the park for bike rides and a play and there were fun leaves everywhere. The red hues spoke to me and I had to collect them all up, we will make Christmas wreaths with the kids. We found lots of gum nuts too. I’m really wanting to promote a more sustainable Christmas this year, gifts that have been found at the op shops, recycled paper for wrapping and using things in nature etc for crafts. @kool_kids_the_commons #natureplay #sustainablechristmas #naturecrafts #leafart #sustainabilityinchildcare #koolkidsthecommons #christmasishere #natureplaymothers #natureexchange #tweedheads #earlychildhoodeducator

20.01.2022 My heart is aching for the people in my home town of The Channon, while I haven’t lived there for a long time it will always be my home and there are still lots of people I know and love still there. Some have evacuated while others are waiting with their cars packed ready to go. Stay safe everyone, I’m thinking of you all xo

19.01.2022 The craftermath of making our monarch butterfly caterpillars it was interesting to see the children’s interpretations of how the caterpillars look in regards to how they painted their egg cartons. We will add so@e eyes and antennas next week and then add them to our life cycle display we are creating. #koolkidsthecommons #craftermath #lifecycles #butterflylifecycle #monarchbutterfly #kidsart #artwithkids #tweedheads #casuarina #earlychildhoodeducator #enquirybasedlearning #playbasedlearning #learningisfun

11.01.2022 We have been investigating and inquiring about something very exciting over the last week. I was lucky enough to attract a monarch butterfly to lay some eggs on the milk weed bush I had planted in the back garden. We have been watching g the caterpillar grow and today when we came in to look we saw it hanging upside down ready to turn into a pupa/chrysalis. We have been watching some you tube videos on the changes that the caterpillar goes through and we are so excited to see what comes next. This has been such a wonderful experience for us to all share together. Watch this space for what we find out next. @kool_kids_the_commons #koolkidsthecommons #seniorkindy #exploringnaturewithchildren #lifecycles #butterflylifecycle #learningthroughplay #playbasedlearning #natureply #earlychildhoodeducator #monarchbutterflies
09.01.2022 How beautiful is this loose parts activity, I have seen the trees at Kmart
09.01.2022 Foil creek bed in the sandpit yesterday thanks to Miss Helena, the children helped place the rocks along the edge and stick the branches into the sand to make a forest. They were excited to watch the water flow through the creek, although it didn’t last long before it got destroyed the joy is in the process and the collaborative and team work skills were fabulous. I’d like to do it again with a smaller group of children so hopefully it lasts longer. @kool_kids_the_commons #looseparts #natureplay #teamwork #playtime #sandpitplay #natureplaymothers #eylf #earlychildhoodeducator #passionforplay #koolkidsthecommons #outdoorplay #learningthroughplay #playbasedlearning

08.01.2022 Getting out in the mud kitchen really is a wonderful experience, the children gain so much from this kid of play. Not only do they rely on each other for team work but they are building stronger connections and problem solving skills. They are giving their gross motor skills a great work out and building their vocabulary. It has been wonderful to see some of the children who didn’t used to like to participate in the messy play really enjoying getting in there now. I wish we could hang out in the mud kitchen all day long. It really is our favourite place to be. #mudkitchenplay #letsplaymudkitchens #letsgetgrubby #grossmotorskillls #playinginnature #natureplay #eylf #earlychildhoodeducation #koolkidsthecommons #natureplaymothers

04.01.2022 Is t nature just amazing, we found this funky little fungus on a walk this afternoon.
04.01.2022 It was science week this week, the children displayed much excitement as we carried out some of our science experiments. We had a lovely sensory experience with the water beads which the children spent a lot of time at. We experimented with cause and effect with the bicarb and vinegar, the children’s eyes really lit up when they saw the bicarb fizzing when the coloured vinegar it it. We made it rain with our shaving cream cloud and food dye rain, this experiment created so much excitement that we will be doing it again next week with some smaller jars so everyone can have a turn. #scienceweek #koolkidsthecommons #experimenting #scienceexperimentsforkids #sciencewithkids #earlychildhoodeducator #learningthroughplay #playbasedlearning
03.01.2022 Something really cool happened this morning, when I got to work I went to check on the caterpillars and clean out the enclosure and look what I found . Our first monarch butterfly , we did some investigating and found out that it is a female due to its thick black lines in its wings. It was great for the children to see it get released and fly away. We can’t wait to see some more emerge over the next week or so. @koolkidsthecommons #butterfly #metamorphosis #butterflyrelease #monarchbutterflyrelease #natureplay #investigatingwithkids #nature #littlelifelonglearners #playbasedlearning #koolkidsthecommons
01.01.2022 So on Friday we got to witness something pretty amazing, we actually got to see a caterpillar turn into a chrysalis. The children and educators were in awe of this process. It has been such an amazing thing to have these creatures in our classroom and be able to fully explore the life cycle. We hope in the early days of next week we will get to see our first butterfly emerge. @kool_kids_the_commons #natureplay #naturekids #monarchbutterfly #learningwithnature #earlychildhoodeducator #koolkidsthecommons #passionforlearning #inspiredplay #learningthroughplay #investigatinglifecycles #butterflylifecycle
