11.01.2022 It’s ‘Thank a Farmer’ week at uni, so we thought we’d show you all a snippet of what goes into producing beef cattle in the Top End. Also, raising awareness an...d support for the industry. Australia is a high cost producer, with a lot more involved in beef production than people realise. A typical workday in the middle of the season involves getting up in the dark and getting home in the dark, and could involve any aspect of station work. The wellbeing of livestock is paramount, with blood, sweat and tears; long hard days; dust, flies and mud; hard times, but also a lot of fun, involved in the care of our animals. #uqgthankafarmer See more

01.01.2022 Come see it all far and wide, feel it all within and live Australia's story, your way.

01.01.2022 Some have died from dehydration with water still in their water bottle. Why? Because when they were nearly out of water they started sipping on their dwindling ...supply trying to make it last longer. Sipping does not prevent dehydration. When you sip water, first it will be engaged with food digestion in your stomach, then your kidneys and liver will rob the remaining millilitres, leaving absolutely none for your brain to absorb and function properly. Sad but true is the example of an Austrian tourist in South Australia. She left a bogged vehicle and with two litres of water tried to walk 60kms in above 40C temperature. The following day she was found dead from dehydration at the 25 km mark. Next to her body was the nearly full two litre bottle. Only 250mls had been drunk, that is only one cup full. The vehicle had plenty of drinking water on board and her husband, who had turned back earlier because he felt sick, was still alive. Sipping to conserve water could be the last mistake you make. So heed this advice wisely. Never ever sip water. The water in your stomach is always better for you than the water in your bottle. You should drink water at a consumption rate of at least one full standard coffee cup (250ml) each time you drink. That way a useful amount will enter your system, allowing you to stay hydrated and functioning well. Of course if you need more, drink more. See more
