25.01.2022 http:// ISO EXPO | Wed 07 Oct 1900h | RAAF Roulettes // The Roulettes are the Royal Australian Air Force's aerobatic display team. First flying in 1970, in Macchi MB-326 aircraft, they performed their first display at RAAF Base Williams Point Cook. They later changed aircraft to the Pilatus PC-9/A (RAAF’s pilot training aircraft) in 1989. Now the Roulettes fly Pilatus PC-21 which are the one of most advanced training aircraft in the world. The Roulette team consists of six aircraf...t and seven pilots who also serve as Qualified Flying Instructors at RAAF East Sale. They complete two display seasons each year, lasting for six months each. Roulette displays are flown all around Australia and consist of a number of manoeuvres flown in various formations at a low level. They are an extension of formation, aerobatics, low-level flying, and airmanship skills, taught to Air Force pilots and developed throughout their career. The Roulettes fly as low as 250 feet (80 m) at speeds of up to 370 knots to 685km/h and pilots can experience up to 6 ‘G', or 6 times, the force of gravity during a display. Flying as close as three metres apart, the team showcases the level of visual judgement and hand-eye coordination that pilots in the Air Force are able to achieve. Check out this video to find out more about what a day in the life of a Roulette Piot is like! Post all your questions in the comments section, of what you want to ask them on the day! Attend the session to find out how these people became Roulette pilots whilst learning about their experiences within the RAAF and how you could possibly do the same! Registration is crucial to attend the event. You will be sent an email at 1700h on the day with the link to the event. So make sure you register, using the link below, before then! https://forms.gle/XnMuBaX3ufnRZ7zy8 #ISOEXPO #tomorrowsleaderstoday #youthdevelopment Air Force Roulettes https://www.youtube.com/watch

23.01.2022 http:// EFTS - Still Flying // From SQNLDR(AAFC) Scott Wiggins, Staff Officer Operations, Aviation Operations Wing, Australian Air Force Cadets. During the Operational Pause, the AAFC’s Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS) has been able to keep flying at our bases of RAAF Point Cook, RAAF Richmond and RAAF Amberley.... Unfortunately it’s not the type, or as much flying that EFTS want to be doing - which is inspiring the cadets of the AAFC. Instead we are undertaking the essential tasks of keeping our fleet of DA40NG aircraft serviceable and keeping certain nominated pilots/flying instructors current on the aircraft type. There are many restrictions on these operations like solo flights only, and the aircraft quarantined for a period of time after each flight along with the extensive aircraft cleaning inside and out. This is all in order to make the transition to flying with cadets again post Operational Pause as smooth as possible and back to normal operations. In the photos, taken on Thursday the 10 September 2020, are all three RAAF Point Cook based aircraft on final their approach to Essendon Airport to obtain fuel. And all three lined up on the tarmac at Essendon waiting for the tanker to arrive. We look forward to seeing our cadets back in the skies, and learning the wonder of flight!
