21.01.2022 Yes I know I harp on about the use of a mobile phone whilst driving but this is what happened to a Mitsubishi Lancer driver that rear ended me when I was drivin...g my Patrol Yesterday late afternoon. The driver reached down for his mobile phone and this is the result. Please DO NOT use YOUR mobile phone when driving behind me! You WILL come off 2nd best. The Lancer is a company car. I've scrubbed out the number plate so as not too ridicule the driver of the Lancer as he handled himself rather well, extremely apologetic and very honest at the time of the incident. This is a timely reminder to EVERYONE - now that we are all starting to head into the silly season. No air bag deployment in the Lancer. KEEP OFF YA BLOODY MOBILE PHONES WHEN DRIVING, PLEASE! 21.01.2022 Fishing thoughts for the weekend 02 Dec 17 Gday folks, Here we are again at another weekend, and the sun is going to be shining down. Unfortunately because of ...the Trough still hanging around and another big High Pressure Cell coming in, it will be a messy one on the water. So at this stage the forecast is still very shaky, but we are all used to that by now, lol Likewise the Barometric readings will probably fluctuate as well, playing havoc on fish with swim bladders. It all depends on where the Trough stays really. That Cyclone near Cocos Island will not affect us, and I feel that it will die off shortly due to cooler waters South of it, between it and the Mainland. Watch and see I suppose. Remember last Season they got excited and named 3 Cyclones, yet none lasted more than 48 hours, and that was because of SST being too low to sustain them. Looking at the attached SST Chart, we are really starting to see that warm water push down. The SW crew must be getting excited, because it is wrapping itself around the Capes and heading East towards Esperance. The LB crew will be getting twitchy IMO. Metro wise we have more warm water than last week, and temps are continuing to rise, especially in the river. This will lead to an increase in activity levels of all that live in the Sea. I am talking fish, crabs and crays primarily, hint! More on that later. Full Moon Monday, so we are in prime mulloway tides again. The whites have already started running in most areas, but the bulk will take off after this Full Moon IMO. Either way you should be in the water now. More on crays later Okay that is enough environmental stuff, lets work out what we can do this weekend. Lets get thinking.. OFFSHORE PGFC has their Season opening this weekend after delaying it from last one. PELAGICS Okay looking at the attached SST Chart we can see that a lot of warmer water has arrived locally, with another warm Eddy also coming down and due here next week. That means good news for pelagic chasers. Spaniards should fire up, as a result, and I would expect that the Chicken Run at Rotto will be packed with boats trying their luck for these speedsters. Elsewhere look at the Paddock, Parker Point and around Radar Reef, but conditions will be sloppy out there and really only for bigger craft as the forecast stands right now. Closer inshore , look for Spaniards NOR around places like the 3 Mile, Hale Rd Reef, Two Rocks, Lancelin etc. SOR around the Moles, Stragglers area, and 5 Fathom Bank will all be worth a crack IMO. The hot water outlet for the desal plant is currently switched off apparently due to maintenance, so that one isnt available to us. However the Sound could have the odd Spaniard patrolling the rockwalls, and maybe even a longtail??? SBTs are still thick out there and there should be plenty for you to play with, if conditions allow the small boats out to play that is. No word yet on mahi mahi out around the FADs, but I reckon this weekend will change all of that. This time of Year they should be mainly small ones, but you never know. Watch and see, I suppose? Still too early to call conditions for yakkers or ballooning yet. Nearly got caught out again by autocorrect and called yakkers, yikkers like last week, lol Fkn puter thinks its so smart, I control the on/off switch matey, hahaha DEMERSALS The ban is still in place for the West Coast Region, and still no answer from Dave Kelly our missing in action Fisheries Minister. Basically, Fisheries Fcked up with that media release and they are hoping that it will all go away. There was no change to the Legislation or Act that enabled such a statement, so we now basically have to take any advice from Fisheries with a pinch of salt. Not an ideal situation at all.. Piss poor in fact! SERIOLAS The aggregations are getting hammered by sharks, so if there is a T & R section in the comp, then there are some easy points available, well not really easy, you will sweat for them, probably swear occasionally too, lol. The 40s still seems to be relatively shark free, so far, so that could be a better less expensive option. The Fish Towers/Artificial Reefs are turning up sambos and YTKs, but tempting them can be difficult. If all else fails, a live skippy or pike, will nearly always work. Then once you hook one, toss SPs and jigs around him to hook up, his now excited mates. Hint! Inshore and in the Marinas/Freo Harbour and lower Swan River, there are still plenty of local sambos to play with, if you crack the code that is, lol. Or crack your back, no wait, thats what the Chiropractor does afterwards, to you!! Hahaha I both love and hate sambos, especially in shallow water. MULLOWAY Okay Full Moon approaching, plenty of warm water, and heaps (actually shitloads) of bait around. Can it get any better? Yes, I think it can. We are seeing heaps of juvenile mulloway around the 20-25cm mark, so the next couple of Seasons should be good ones. So bank that one away for future fishing sessions! This weekend I would be definitely looking at places like E Shed (will be packed), the Moles, The Traffic Bridges at slack water (ideal spinning spot for mullas is the old bridge to Red Herring area), Mosmans, Blackwall reach, Point Walter and Claremont stretch. Further up river, the Brewery/Narrows area, Canning Bridge, Deep water Point, and the Mount Henry flats. I am unsure if the Causeway to East Perth stretch will be fishable due to the construction of the new bridge/ferry wharf. They are currently dumping truckloads of rocks (unwashed) directly into the Swan, this is raising suspended silt levels and possibly introducing contaminants into the System. More will be written about in the next few days as I get more information, but any pics would be welcomed gladly. Further upstream look around the Bamboos/Maylands Peninsula/Tranby House, Garret Rd Bridge and the Channel that runs past Ascot is always worth a session. You might even encounter a bull shark. This area should also produce, but for local spots you will have to come in and chat to me, lol. It is usually worth the chat hahaha. The whole river is alive with baitfish, hardy heads, bonies, chopper tailor and the odd herring, so there should be plenty of activity to keep all those river kingies hunters happy. Beachwise, weed has been an issue as it usually is during cray season. However it seems to be clearing up, but it is still a case of check it out, but have back up plans. This weekend I would be thinking Lancelin to Jurien stretch of Coast, or if you wanted a run, then North to S bend/Flat Rocks. Preston, Golden Bay and the Cut should also produce some fish, and the Busselton Jetty will be busy also. CRAYS After talking to a few different sources, the whites are locked and loaded for migration, but as yet they are still inside places like the 5 fathom and 3 Mile, just feeding, and they are starving after moulting. Catches are building up, with some crew bagging out in one pot, and having to release many more. The main run will start as soon as the Full Moon is over, and that will be the starting gun for them to become white walkers and march Westwards over the edge of the shelf. If you arent already in the water, then get in NOW!! TAILOR/SALMON Still a few schools of juvenile salmon around Metro waters, mainly the Sound and around the Trigg to Brighton stretch, though they can turn up anywhere really. Tailor, it would be better to say where they arent, lol. They have ranged as far upstream as Guildford Bridge, on the bigger tides coming up, that should happen again also. Basically they are thick from below Maylands to the Harbour. Size is starting to pick up finally, with some fish in the mid 40s and even a 53cm specimen landed. Switch to bigger lures for a better class of fish (bigger not posher that is, lol) Beaches both NOR and SOR are getting consistent fish in the mid 40s to low 50s, so the Season is picking up, and its all due to the warmer water. FLATS YFW reports have been sporadic, experienced crew are doing okay, but those that are new are sometimes struggling. I would expect those that attended my talk last week will soon crack this code and get amongst them also. For those that are still struggling, check out Google earth to look for suitable flats. In the Peel/Harvey, look for areas of broken weed and sand/mud. On these higher Tides that are coming, look up in the wetlands even, as whiting will push into there looking for food. That is enough of a hint there for ya. Big Tides mean more fish coming upon to the flats, plus warmer water means more activity as well. My long lost delivery of ZX Blades and assists should be here tomorrow at the latest, and it cannot come soon enough IMO. Blades are a great weapon at this time of the Season and ZXs are one of the best for dragging fish out of the channels and drop-offs. The Swan YFW Chasers have started catching good sized fish, but that is something that I will save for customers only. So drop in for a chat. Flathead catches have picked up greatly, and some very nice fish have been taken lately. Fish are as far upstream as Como and the Narrows, and up around the Mt Henry Bridge Flats. I wouldnt be surprised to see some from Ascot/Bassendean area either, but you must know where the sand banks are for best results. Hint! Elops (Giant herring) have been quiet lately, but the bigger Tides and warmer days should fire them up as well. Get out on the water early if you are serious about targeting them, because once they get spooked, that is pretty much it for the day. Applecross, Como, Rock Bay, Maylands, Leeuwin Boat Ramp area to the Red Herring, are all good spots to try for them. SQUID Nice conditions for land based squidding if you can find a spot out of the wind, that is. Have to watch and wait to see how the forecast turns out really. CRABS Mandurah is still full of littlies, and very careful measuring is needed, also careful releases as well. None of this de-clawing undersized crabs either, that is a wanker act. Bunbury and Busselton are reporting good catches. The swan/Canning has plenty of crabs to chase, but there are still a lot of small and undersized ones amongst them. I am really unsure about any crabs getting past the new bridge this Year, due to all of the works and the restrictions on the water flow as a result, the same as last Summer, sigh It was meant to be only a very temporary thing that didnt need an environmental impact statement, yeah right!!! As we saw earlier this Year, that sort of work generally doesnt bode well for fish stocks, nor the health of the river, sigh. SHARKS Lots to talk about here. First up white sharks. Shitloads are still around, and I would expect quite a few sighting this weekend. Please keep alert at all times, trust your gut feelings (cannot emphasise that enough) and keep your shark shields handy and switched on. The Sound and surrounds has several dozen sharks in and around the snapper aggregations, and some are already following boats dropping pots. I reckon that big 6m Female will be patrolling around Staggie Reef area, and the usual Cottesloe visitor (the one that has attacked and killed before, they know this by its markings) will be close by also. I see that one a few times a Year myself doing my snapper thing, and its a true U Boat. Whalers are thick at the sambo aggregations and are proving to be a right pain in the arse. Hopefully PGFC has a shark T&R section to prick some lips and teach some respect out there. Bulls are showing up regularly at places like Point Walter, Ascot, Deepwater Point and in front of Swan Maritime College. This Full Moon, I would expect a big girl to come up past here to give birth, and we should see baby sharks in about 7-10 days in the lower reaches as they move downstream. A lot of scalloped hammerheads are showing up behind Carnac Island, so there is another target for ya. Makos are amongst the SBT schools going around the Capes right now, and I would expect some catches from the rocks shortly. Some would be out at the Trench as well IMO. Okay folks that is enough thinking for today, my head is hurting hahaha Big thanks once again for all your support over the past few days with that attack from over East. It meant a hell of a lot to me and my Family. Have a great weekend, stay safe and enjoy yourselves. Tight lines Tim

19.01.2022 Attention all cray potters there is a 4m+ swell forecast for this weekend. If your pots are in shallow water (under 15m), theres a risk your pots will roll o...r be dragged by the swell. We recommend moving your pots out to deeper waters (to where the whites are about now, around 30m) or remove them from the water to save losing your pots. SHARE with your potting mates! 17.01.2022 YABBIES ON THE MOVE. It’s been a delicacy enjoyed by West Australians for generations, but what you might not know is that the humble yabby is also a declared ...pest species in WA. The tasty crustacean has been found in the Murchison River for the first time since yabbies were introduced to WA from NSW, Victoria and South Australia in 1932. They are also forming feral pest populations in a number of WA rivers and streams, and the impact on the State’s natural assets could be potentially devastating. The message from invasive species expert Dr Colin Johnston is if you catch yabbies, don’t throw 'em back, cook 'em up. So the big question is - seafood sauce or garlic butter? #yabbychallengeaccepted

10.01.2022 Sick prawns back after end of import ban Three shipments of raw prawns have tested positive for white spot disease since an import ban was lifted. The federal g...overnment banned raw prawn imports in January but lifted the ban in July. But biosecurity tests have since detected the exotic disease in three consignments despite an enhanced regime that requires exporting countries to certify their shipments are white spot-free. The federal agriculture department confirmed the three positive tests on Thursday, and has demanded answers from the unnamed countries that exported the diseased prawns. The infected shipments will not be released by biosecurity officials, and will either be destroyed, sent back to their countries of origin, or cooked to destroy the virus. It's been a year since white spot was detected in the Logan River south of Brisbane, crippling Queensland's multi-million dollar prawn industry. While not proven, imported uncooked prawns are a suspected cause of the outbreak. https://au.news.yahoo.com//sick-prawns-back-after-end-of-/
10.01.2022 Fishing thoughts for the Weekend 16 Dec 17 Gday folks, Here we are again at another weekend, and who has stolen Summer?? Lol... If only todays weather were Saturdays. There is a very complex Synoptic Chart again this week (surprise lol), so it is still a little too early IMO, to predict exactly how strong the wind will be, and lets face it they havent been the best with their forecasts lately at all. So we shall have to wait and see. Of course we were all cursed because of the Demersal Season opening at Midnight Friday/Saturday morning, so it was obvious the wind would blow, sigh. Looking at the SST Chart, there has been some developments, in that the warm water has split North of Perth and is creating a large Eddy several hundred kms out West, and the warmer part is heading West away from the Coast too. Come back??!!! However, dont panic too much, because if you look really closely, there is a strip of warmer water hugging the Coast from just North of Perth to almost Bunbury. With Easterly winds predicted, this could be a ballooning weekend. More details later. The Barometer is predicted to be mainly low over the Weekend, with about 1010Hpa predicted, but that all depends on that Front, and the Trough, and how they interact. Wish that High would hang around for the Weekend though. At this stage, Saturday Morning is going to be the best chance to sneak out. New Moon on Monday, so good mulloway and pelagic Tides, more on that in the relevant sections. Okay that is enough background information, lets work out what our options are. Lets get thinking OFFSHORE The word Shite, comes to mind when I look at the forecast, and being a family page, I wont say the next word that I uttered either, lol However, without looking at the crappy winds, there are developments happening out there. PELAGICS That strip of warmer water that is close inshore at the moment, is the reason that things like SBTs are turning up from beaches (okay one at Preston, but that is pretty rare), longtails are the more usual capture as they are a coastal tuna, SBTs are a blue water fish usually. This means that mackies are also in close and could be accessible from certain Landbased locations. Think outside the square at places like Rotto, a quick Ferry trip and bike ride could get you ballooning on a Northern side point, just sayin.. Once conditions allow then the small boat brigade can also get into the action. Spaniard steaks on the BBQ anyone?? DEMERSALS The starting gun for the new Season goes off at 0001, Saturday Morning, thats a minute past Midnight. The snapper closure in the Cockburn and Warnbro Sounds is still in place until the end of January though, so bear that in mind. Any fish caught outside of the zone, I strongly suggest that you photograph them on your phone with GPS location switched on, and also mark it on your GPS. Also consider not stopping in the closed area on your way back to the ramp to avoid any misunderstandings. Better safe than sorry. Of course the wind gods are a cruel lot, and decided to play with our emotions, and crush our expectations hahaha. However, there is a chance that we could get a window Saturday, so lets have a think. WA jewies will be generally out deeper, especially the larger ones, as they wait for the white crays to walk past them. The general consensus last night, was to start in the 40s and check out the 60s if that didnt work. Of course if you go out in the dark, there will still be plenty of residential fish around places like the 3 Mile and 5 Fathom Bank. Just watch out for the kelp forest of pot ropes, and you will be right. Talking of the 5 fathom Bank, the snapper will be patrolling the lines of pots and structure, and they will be ravenous. The same with the 3 Mile, Murray Reefs, James Service etc. The best bet for baldies will be North of Two Rocks IMO However it all hangs on the weather playing nicer than predicted. Remember that if you snag a pot out there, to tie some safety tape, ribbon, rag, anything in the rope to warn the crew that a rig could be attached. There isnt enough of a blow to really fire up the pinkies, but if you are desperate, then by all means have a crack, maybe the mulloway fairy will also visit you, lol SERIOLAS With the warmer water and New Moon, the aggregations should really fire up, however conditions will be sloppy out there. With this weather, look inside the Marinas and Harbours for patrolling sambos. Live baits work best, and a live squid or pike is rarely refused. Further upstream at places like Mosman and Claremont, especially amongst the moorings, is also worth a look for patrolling sambos at this time of Year. MULLOWAY Probably the main game this Weekend folks. With the New Moon this Monday, we are in primo tides/moon phase right now, and for the best part of next week as well. With the massive amounts of bait in the river right now, this could be a great weekend. If we get any rain out of this Front, then that will just be the icing on our chocolate cake, mmm mulloway chocolate, lol There are also heaps of soapies up this way to keep the kids amused. CRAYS The whites have started moving and most crew are now in the 20s. There are still plenty of reds coming in pots inshore, which indicates a lot of whites have marched already. As we discussed last night on PFTV, the increased water temps this Season, compared to last, have compressed the timeline somewhat and the crays are moving quicker than normal. Divers are still scoring great catches and plenty of jumbos too. HERRING Have made a surprise resurgence in the Metro area, with some great catches, and almost a fish a cast NOR at times. Berley up and they will come. Quite a few schools in the Swan too, especially around Claremont. TAILOR/SALMON The rivers are still packed with juvenile tailor and some areas are bubbling with them. The schools are as far upstream as Bassendean, and will probably come up further on these tides too. Most are small, but there are enough larger ones to make it worthwhile, and besides, who doesnt like catching choppers on light gear??? On the beaches, NOR seems to be working better than SOR, with some 50cm+ fish coming from around Two Rocks. There are still large schools of juvenile salmon hanging around and they are regular visitors to the beaches NOR. Often in mixed schools of salmon, herring and tailor. There would have to be some larger predators following them also, one would assume? FLATS With the warmer conditions last Weekend, there was some great flats action both here in Perth and in the Peel/Harvey. However this cold snap/Front could put a blanket on it for a bit, or at least make it harder. If we get a lot of cloud cover, this is when Keimura or UV reflecting lures come into their own, as UV still penetrates cloud cover. Flathead catches are picking up, or I should say were. With the drop in temp, they will probably stay a little deeper. Look for the warmest water possible, and consider lee shores out of the wind. A look at Google Earth will show you some spots. YFW down at Mandurah were mixed, but the size was generally good. However the cooler weather this week has had an effect on their metabolism, so activity will be down. Other than that, with the tides this weekend, we would have been expecting improved catches. So we just need some heat. With the conditions forecast this weekend, we may even see ants take to the wing. If this happens, grab some surface lures and hit the river nearest to the hatch. Bream will go off, as they land on water, and this is can be a great time for bream on surface. Those that have seen it before, know what I mean So lets hope? CRABS Swan/Canning catches have picked up, and the sizes are generally improving. Mandurah crabs are still mainly small, and will be that way for a while yet, though they will also benefit from the increased water temps. Wading and scooping for crabs is a rewarding pastime, and well worth spending a few hours on a warm night, with the advantage of actually hand selecting your crabs. Drop in for some pointers if you have never done it before? SHARKS As we have seen all week there are heaps of sharks out there, and some big ones as well. White sharks are seasonally abundant, and are especially thick around the Sound and the snapper aggregations. There is a 5m Female, hanging around 5 Fathom Bank and another big shark around Little Island, so stay alert out there. Tigers are available on most Metro beaches and I suggest that you get into it before any more bans are brought in. After that extremely biased Senate review, we could be in for a rough ride IMO, as it was heavily biased against us anglers, and beach sharkers in particular. Bull shark activity in the river has picked up, and they have been caught locally and at places like Deepwater Point and Ascot. Nothing big in the past week, nothing bigger than 5 that is. Okay that is enough thinking for today. I am running late thanks to the dreaded Microsoft Updates Blue Screen of Death and frustration, sigh, and the store is now open. Have a great weekend whatever you do, and please do it safely. Tight lines Tim

06.01.2022 Absolutely disappointed in today's society! Stealing someone's car is disgusting and disgraceful! Ben works his ass off for what he owns and to have it stolen ...has just shattered our Christmas and New Years. Not only did the ute have our belongings in it but also irreplaceable belongs that we will never get back. To the disrespectful shitheads who stole the ute, I hope you are happy with yourselves! You've taken more then just his ute! Fuck you. Anyone with information please contact us!! This was the last known sighting! This bloke did a runner from the servo near Bunnings.
05.01.2022 Wouldn't be bad for the camper trailer if you need to change a tyre in a hurry

01.01.2022 Fishing thoughts for the Weekend 16 Dec 17 G’day folks, Here we are again at another weekend, and who has stolen Summer?? Lol... If only today’s weather were Saturday’s. There is a very complex Synoptic Chart again this week (surprise lol), so it is still a little too early IMO, to predict exactly how strong the wind will be, and let’s face it they haven’t been the best with their forecasts lately at all. However, don’t panic too much, because if you look really closely, there is a strip of warmer water hugging the Coast from just North of Perth to almost Bunbury. Okay that is enough background information, let’s work out what our options are. Let’s get thinking OFFSHORE The word Shite, comes to mind when I look at the forecast, and being a family page, I won’t say the next word that I uttered either, lol However, without looking at the crappy winds, there are developments happening out there. PELAGICS That strip of warmer water that is close inshore at the moment, is the reason that things like SBT’s are turning up from beaches (okay one at Preston, but that is pretty rare), longtails are the more usual capture as they are a coastal tuna, SBT’s are a blue water fish usually. DEMERSALS The starting gun for the new Season goes off at 0001, Saturday Morning, that’s a minute past Midnight. However, there is a chance that we could get a window Saturday, so let’s have a think. WA jewies will be generally out deeper, especially the larger ones, as they wait for the white crays to walk past them. The general consensus last night, was to start in the 40’s and check out the 60’s if that didn’t work. There isn’t enough of a blow to really fire up the pinkies, but if you are desperate, then by all means have a crack, maybe the mulloway fairy will also visit you, lol SERIOLAS With the warmer water and New Moon, the aggregations should really fire up, however conditions will be sloppy out there. CRAYS The whites have started moving and most crew are now in the 20’s. Most are small, but there are enough larger ones to make it worthwhile, and besides, who doesn’t like catching choppers on light gear??? Those that have seen it before, know what I mean So let’s hope? Nothing big in the past week, nothing bigger than 5’ that is. Okay that is enough thinking for today. I am running late thanks to the dreaded Microsoft Updates Blue Screen of Death and frustration, sigh, and the store is now open. Have a great weekend whatever you do, and please do it safely. Tight lines Tim
