25.01.2022 Queer Radio:QUEERIE: Have you (ever) found "the one"? This week @queerradiobrisbane shares the belief in Japanese culture that anytwo people who are connected bya red threadare destined to be lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break. The play"Smiley"written byGuillen Cluauses this belief as the central plot device to bring two men who meet by accident to discover if a "red thread" connects them... in a delightful romantic comedy starring US born actor Matt YoungandChilean actor Sergio Torres- both happily married gay men in their own lives living here in Brisbane. Before that though,4ZZZ News Coordinatorand co-presenter of 4ZZZ 102.1FM'sThe Pineapple Rebellion -Alexis PinkdiscussesTrans Day of Remembrance (TDOR)with Blair (in the studio) and Sam (on Remote Studio). PlusShai Lewisgets technical with not just an "ab workout" but breaking down what are various ab muscles are, why they are important and how to shape and sculpt them to a very pleasing feature! 23.01.2022 4ZZZs Album of the Week: Tangents - Timeslips Enigmatic Australian ensemble Tangents return with a new studio album two years after the release of New Bodies. The Australian Music Prize-nominated New Bodies thrust Tangents peculiar blend of furious improvisation and precision production into the international spotlight. More tension and intention pervade Tangents fourth album, Timeslips, demonstrating a thoughtful maturation of spontaneous ideas and more deliberately ab...stract assembly. With breathtaking, rhythmic drumming and adept production driving the various moods, Timeslips emerges from greater live performance and carefully constructed compositions. The brittle skittering mallets of Exaptation, raucous guitar of Debris, and processed trumpet of Vessel add new timbres to their existing palette of jazz drums, melancholy piano, throbbing cello and swirling glitched ambience. The tonal rumble of a 100-carriage coal train winding through New South Wales Bylong Valley signals the albums slow close, recalling Tangents earlier references to the Australian environment on New Bodies and Stateless. Mostly recorded in a single day, just before guitarist Sia Ahmad left the band, only the bravest, most intense moments from the original session remain intact on Timeslips. 11.01.2022 4ZZZs Album of the Week: Ancient Channels - Moments in Ruin Ancient Channels is a sonic expedition through the imagined past, present and future. The Brisbane based post-punk band consists of Kelly Hanlon playing multiple instruments ( DEAFCULT / Terra Pines) and Chris Preindl (Apparitions / Leavings / Vestiges) performing the drums and percussion which forms the heartbeat of the bands sound. Ancient Channels draw from a myriad of influences including post-punk, dream pop..., shoegaze and the sci-fi soundtracks of early film and television. The debut record Moments In Ruin by Ancient Channels is a collage of genres. From the hypnotically ceremonial drumming to the more contemporary guitar riffs, dreamy vocals and ambient synth lines, Ancient Channels skirt the lines of antiquated futurism whilst keeping their feet firmly planted in the now. 01.01.2022 4ZZZs Album of the Week: Wafia - Good Things Your feel-good, self-love dance party playlist has arrived! The trailblazing, RIAA-Certified Gold singer-songwriter, Wafia, has released her most impactful body of work yet; Good Things. Recently named one of VOGUEs New LGBTQ+ Musicians to Listen to Now, the new project sees Wafia boldly detail the end of a bad relationship and the life-changing transformation that followed. I shed a lot of heaviness in the last year, friend...ships and relationships that didnt serve me any longer, Wafia shares. I grieved a lot and some days I still do but anything difficult comes with an opportunity for something better. This EP is about that. The EP features the rising stars newest single, Good Things. The upbeat and glistening bop offers us the much-needed reminder that despite hard times, we all have got good things goin on! The track arrives today with a bubbly, 90s inspired video. The video, led by an all-female crew and directed by Ashley Tsai, features Wafia and some of her best girl friends. This song to me is a celebration of all the good that comes your way when you make the space for it, Wafia says about Good Things. I think everyone at one point has had someone tell them they cant do something and that makes for great fuel, it always feels good to prove someone wrong". - Wafia Listen to the Album of the Week on 4ZZZ, 102.1fm, ZED Digital and streaming online at 4zzz.org.au and iHeartRadio.

01.01.2022 4ZZZs Album of the Week: Gordon Koang - Unity Music in Exile is proud to present Kone Ke Ran, the third single from Gordon Koangs forthcoming album, Unity. Kone Ke Ran is Gordons musical offering to thank an aid worker and counsellor who was working with a UN organisation in a refugee camp. I love him, hes a very good man. When he talks to the people, I hear his voice and he talks to the people in a good way. Singing in Nuer, Gordon thanks this man for his wisdom, kin...dness and help. In true Gordon style, positivity shines throughout this track! He reminds us that we are all connected by our humanness and we can make the world a more caring place by helping each other. The underlying connection throughout all of us is love! I compose a song for this man because I love this guy! This man is doing the good work in South Sudan after the war. He is working with the UN. He is talking to people about their stress because he wants them to be happy." Gordon Koang Gordon Koang is a Nuer musician, hailing from the banks of the River Nile in what is now South Sudan. Born blind, he began playing music on the streets of Juba as a young man though has now become a grassroots hero, the voice of the Nuer people, a prominent figure in the fight for cultural independence in South Sudan, affectionately known as the King of Music. Unity is, remarkably, Gordons eleventh full-length album, and his first since coming to Australia. It is his only recorded output in the painstakingly long six years of living as an asylum seeker, and the album was completed just weeks before Gordon was awarded his permanent residency. In late 2019, Gordon began a series of collaborations with musicians from around Australia, in search of a new sound that would be suited to his adopted home. He now proudly calls himself an Australian, a term which so many from around the world have come to know as their own. Through his recordings, Gordon hopes to reach as many new listeners as he can around the world. He wants everyone to hear his message - on the radio, in clubs, at festivals, on the street. And what is this message? Unity. Peace between all people of the world, regardless of religion or cultural differences. A painfully first-hand experience of what these rifts can create between people has led Gordon to devote his life, and his music, to a simple message of peace, love and unity. Love each other, and love yourself. Its not so hard! This album is about uniting people together. If the world unites itself, no one will say I am alone. - Gordon Koang Listen to the Album of the Week on 4ZZZ, 102.1fm, ZED digital and streaming online at 4zzz.org.au and iHeartRadio
