21.01.2022 From 11:59pm tonight, 22 November there are changes to restrictions for mask wearing. Masks are required: Indoors On public transport ... When you can’t keep your distance outdoors Please keep up the healthy habits you have developed this year as we move to COVID Normal. Masks prevent an infected person from projecting their droplets into the air around them, and non-infected people from breathing in the virus. Wearing a mask when you can’t keep your distance helps keep you safe, the people you love safe, and Victoria open. #COVID19Vic

19.01.2022 When travelling with others, try to avoid having people from other households in the one vehicle. Being enclosed in a small space together increases the risk of... spreading coronavirus (COVID-19). If you do need to share a ride: seat passengers from other households in the back seat to maximise the physical distance between you make sure everyone in the vehicle wears a face mask (unless they have an exemption) if possible, open windows to increase ventilation avoid using aircon on recirculation mode regularly clean and sanitise often-touched surfaces such as door handles. 13.01.2022 I want to respectfully acknowledge Aboriginal people as the Original Custodians of the land we walk on today, the land of the Braiakaulung people of the Gunaikurnai nation and in this and every week pass on my respect to their Elders, past, present, future and emerging. In recent months I have been hearing from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Latrobe. I have learned that there is no single way to engage with all Aboriginal people. People suggested men’s group...s, yarning circles, having a chat under a tree, sharing a feed, going for a walk and meeting with Elders. Reaching out to people in places where they spend their time demonstrates care and interest. #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek Latrobe Health Assembly, Latrobe Community Health Service, Latrobe City Council, We Are Latrobe, Morwell Noticeboard, GippsNews, Gippsland PHN, Latrobe Valley Authority, Victorian Department of Health & Human Services, Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency - VACCA, Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation- Sale, The Gathering Place, GLaWAC

10.01.2022 The people we've spoken with have talked about the importance of leadership and facilitation. This helped us to clarify our role in helping Aboriginal communities in Latrobe. We were encouraged to have the know-how and judgement to facilitate conversations to bring people out and to step back at the right time to empower others. This requires a degree of skill and ability to understand the needs and readiness of communities #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek... 09.01.2022 Tomorrow, November 20th is Trans Day of Remembrance. A day that honours the memory of trans lives lost to acts of transphobia and discrimination. I have heard from LGBTIQ+ communities that safety comes first. People from LGBTIQ+ communities have said that awareness and education is central to everything and the forefront of any change. Some people have made the point that being LGBTIQ+ is not always visible to others and said that people don’t understand that comments dis...criminate. LGBTIQ people want to do ordinary things such as walk down the street, go to the toilet, visit a doctor, go to school or go to work without feeling frightened about how people will react to them. We have heard that when LGBTIQ+ inclusivity is not visible, there is an assumption that LGBTIQ+ people will not be supported. LGBTIQ+ people have suggested that all gender toilets would help them to feel safe and to stay physically and mentally healthy. Some people have said that when toilets are labelled as male or female, they can feel like they are using the wrong toilet or that they are being watched. This simple act of providing all gender toilets could immediately resolve some of the concerns raised by LGBTIQ+ people in Latrobe and have a positive impact on transphobia and discrimination within our communities. www.trans101.org.au https://www.lhadvocate.vic.gov.au//engagement-inspiration/ https://tdor.org.au/ Latrobe Health Assembly Latrobe Community Health Service Latrobe City We Are Latrobe Morwell Noticeboard Gippsland PHN Latrobe Valley Authority Victorian Department of Health & Human Services Transgender Victoria Victorian Commissioner for LGBTIQ+ Communities

08.01.2022 Latrobe City Council established a community focused COVID Helpline to respond to community questions and help people to navigate the ongoing changes to COVID-19 rules and regulations. I met with the team managing this Helpline and saw first-hand their commitment to taking the time to listen and provide a point of social connection for communities. The team at Latrobe City Council are to be congratulated for their innovative approach to keeping communities informed and I look forward to working with them during the recovery period.

07.01.2022 The Victorian Government has today recognised Traditional Owners’ deep connection to water with the announcement that the Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) will receive two gigalitres of unallocated water in the Mitchell River. Traditional Owners’ connection to water plays a key part in the The Government’s long term strategy for managing the state’s water resources and builds on legislation that incorporates Aboriginal cultural values into the planning and operation of water resource managers. In my recent engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Latrobe I have had the opportunity to learn more about the importance of the connection to country, including water ways and how this connection is critical in understanding community spirit, health and healing.

02.01.2022 Recently, Aboriginal people in Latrobe shared a message with us that the solutions to the long-term problems that have impacted their families can be determined at a local level and do not need to be prescribed by governments. We heard about positive steps forward and a desire for more people to work together to address all the social determinants of health for Aboriginal people in Latrobe. During NAIDOC week we are being asked to explore and learn about Indigenous Nation...s, languages and understand their unique place in the cultural heritage of Australia. The more we learn, the more we can understand what has lead us to this place. #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek Latrobe Health Assembly, Latrobe Community Health Service, Latrobe City Council, We Are Latrobe, Morwell Noticeboard GippsNews, Gippsland PHN, Latrobe Valley Authority, Victorian Department of Health & Human Services, Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency - VACCA, Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation- Sale, The Gathering Place, GLaWAC
