23.01.2022 8th annual 65km for Cystic Fibrosis 'virtual' walk. Thank you everyone for an amazing weekend. Here is a compilation of the photos and updates sent in across the weekend, as well as a few summaries of fundraising efforts. An amazing effort, particularly given the circumstances of the last few months. At this stage we have raised over $62,000 in sponsorship. Thanks for your support in sending the photos and updates in. It made a huge difference to the event and helped turn the... sadness relating to the cancellation into a scenario where you can all feel very proud of what has been achieved. If any of you are doing your walks during the week, or didn't get a chance to send in your piccies during the weekend, there is still time to send them in. I am still here at the other end! The Everyday Hero site will still be up for another month or so for donations, so keep them coming. http://www.monashhealthfoundation.com.au/event/65kmforcf We are looking forward to seeing you all in person next year. Best wishes Sue on behalf of the '65km for CF' organising committee

22.01.2022 REGISTRATIONS ARE OPEN Please join us for our 9th annual '65km for Cystic Fibrosis' event over the weekend of the 13th and 14th March, 2021. Over the past 8 years, we have raised over $800,000 for cystic fibrosis research and funded 20 projects here in Australia. Due to the challenges and continuing changes relating to COVID restrictions, this year will again be a virtual event. It may not have the same feel as an in-person event but the virtual event is really flexible and... easy. You can still get a group of friends to participate and do it together. The funding of projects is even more critical now as it has been a difficult time to raise money, but people with CF need research breakthroughs more than ever. To register please click on this link https://monash.grassrootz.com/65km-for-cystic-fibrosis You may notice that we look a little different this year. This is because we’ve moved e-fundraising providers and are now powered by Grassrootz. We look forward to working with our new platform partners, but wanted to remind all our supporters that when registering, please feel free to opt out of some of the automated add-on costs. This includes turning off 'Donate an additional 10%' or 'Cover the processing fee' when filling out the registration form there are easy tick-boxes, which allow you to opt-out. You are welcome, of course, to make a further donation to '65km for Cystic Fibrosis' and can do so by using your unique fundraising link. For more information please visit our web page www.65kmforcf.com.au We very much look forward to having you participate in our virtual event. Best regards, The 65km for Cystic Fibrosis Organising Committee

16.01.2022 A walk of hope Recently I have found myself sucked into the Netflix vortex through a show called When Calls the Heart. The show is set in ‘Coal Valley’, a small Canadian coal-mining town of the early 1900s. It has an amazing array of good-looking actors and actresses in fabulous outfits and it is, well, soppy. In addition, despite the fact that there is no hairdresser in town, everyone’s hair is beautifully coloured and coiffed. We wouldn’t want a bit of 1900s frontier real...ity to spoil things, now would we? During the first episode the town is renamed to ‘Hope Valley’ and despite the soppiness of the show and the ‘Gogglebox’ type discussions with my daughter about it, it does tug at my heart strings. So much so, that I find myself sitting on the couch, late at night, with tears rolling down my face. In my mind I'm thinking, 'thank goodness no-one can see me being so pathetic!' It's just a TV show after all. So, what does any of that have to do with our ‘65km for CF’ walk that is coming up on the 13/14 March? Despite all my perceived shortcomings of this show, I have been drawn into it because things that relate to the heart, including hope, are a part of our reality on an everyday basis. We have so many hopes wrapped into our lives and in the case of our ‘65km for CF’ walk, it is full of many hopes, such as the hope that: - you will join us and register to be a part of the event - we will have good weather that weekend - we will reach our goal of $100,000 to go towards CF research - the research projects we fund will make a difference to those in our CF community - you enjoy yourselves and all goes well for the walk - next year we get to go back to an in-person event and we get to see you all. During my reflections, I was also led down the path of thinking about what motivates me to be a part of organising this event. In the context of the theme of hope, I am hoping that you: - never get called into ICU to say goodbye to your CF loved one - never have to tell your story of heartbreak and grief - don’t find yourself on the invitee list for the CF memorial service - get to see your CF loved ones fulfilling their dreams such as studying, working, travelling, getting married and having children. Most of all I hope that people see how passionate we are about making a difference to those with CF and their families and friends, and that you want to be a part of that too. So, if your heart calls to you and you want to be a part of turning hopes into realities, we would love to see your name up in lights in our registration list or see your donation with your messages of support and hope for a better future for all those in the CF community. https://monash.grassrootz.com/65km-for-cystic-fibrosis Have a fabulous weekend. 11.01.2022 What a roller coaster ride the last six weeks has been for everyone! We've had lots of different adjustments to make and challenges to navigate but we have shown great resilience and demonstrated that we can work together as a community for the greater good of all. When we commenced preparation for our event last June, the last thing on our radar was a last-minute cancellation due to a global pandemic. However, we were blown away by the amazing transition you made from movin...g from a physically run event to a virtually run event. We would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for quickly accepting our decision and embracing our virtual walk. We were so thrilled to see you and your lovely team photos appearing on Facebook during Saturday and Sunday. With your generous support we have raised around $68,000, which is an amazing effort and will allow us to undertake more quality CF research. We promise that we will be back, bigger and better next year and look forward to seeing you all once again in person then. In the meantime, we wish you and your family the best of health in this uncertain time. Donations on the Everyday Hero site are still open for a little longer, if there is anyone who still wishes to donate. Thanks once again for being such an amazing group. Best wishes The '65km for CF' organising committee http://www.monashhealthfoundation.com.au/event/65kmforcf

10.01.2022 I think the Xmas elves got up to a bit of mischief over the Xmas season as our last post about the 2021 walk has disappeared into the ether! So our sincere apologies for that. Suffice to say we are looking forward to seeing you all at our '65km for CF' virtual walk on the weekend of 13/14 March 2021. The registration information will be sent out in the next week or so via the new GrassRootz platform, which will be used instead of EveryDay Hero, which is no longer available to... us. The well known longer distances of 10.8km through to 65km will be available for you as well as a shorter 4km distance. We look forward to 'seeing' you all virtually and giving you more specific information soon. Best wishes The '65km for CF' committee
