25.01.2022 With this article I do want to make mention that the people working at State Growth are doing a fantastic job under trying conditions, a lot has been put on their plate and they are trying to make sure things are as far as possible. Having said that, the process was independent and under that independent process we where denied multiple times and eventually sent letter with the reasons, one being we provided no economic benefit to the state, which when State Growth stepped in... for a manual audit, they quickly over ruled this and issued us with a $4,000 grant. What concerns me is there has been leaks of businesses and social clubs receiving the full $15,000 grant while two take away shops in the same small town, one received the minor grant and the other denied like us. Is there truth to this? How do we know? Every other major grant process including the Arts Tasmania COVID funding has been made public, why is this any different? As a member of the Live Events Industry, my business was in financial hardship when I applied for this Grant and it is still in that very same position right now, as nothing has changed with regards to the effects of restrictions on my industry. Personally I am not embarrassed by this and I applied as a business, which doesn't have feelings or emotional duress under corporate laws. I applied for Tax Payer funded Grant, received it... That is less information than we normally release for a Grant not in COVID times, it is not a witch hunt... it is public oversight.
